# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Armley?

Don't fire up your engine. While the fuel is still sitting in your tank and the engine has not yet run, a tank drain is almost always all it requires — and that is settled in the next few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled vehicles where they are, throughout Armley and the rest of West Yorkshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive.

Our engineers shall explain what the next stage will be. Call us — this happens ahead of everything else.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

- Give a petrol motor diesel and it will generally not run at all, so the motorist stops there and so does the wear. Give a diesel petrol and the thing starts, it ticks over, it pulls away — all right for several miles. Motorists have that muddled, which is the thing they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So do not crank it. And if started, never trust it: your fuel system is wearing down whenever you drive.

- Leave your ignition off also. Diesel has two jobs: it combusts, and before it burns it lubricates the high-pressure fuel pump and those injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Flicking the ignition on is usually all it takes to prime that system, which draws this petrol out of your tank then into exactly those parts.

- Do not thin it. Diesel poured on top takes out nothing, so all you have is more of what was already there, since percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system handles petrol. Super unleaded? Still petrol. The type makes no difference.

- Wait where you are if you reasonably can. A car that has never shifted is the quickest one to handle, and we would sooner come to an odd spot than have it started. If you're stopped on the verge on Ledgard Way, put the hazards on and leave the car there.

- Our van arriving rather than circling rests on two things: a postcode that starts LS12 2, and whatever is closest to you with a sign on it. Keep both prepared before you ring.

- What went in, roughly how much, and also whether the motor has fired — those three answers settle your whole call-out. Ring 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

The trip in is what pushed thinned diesel through the pump. Sitting still has pushed nothing. Petrol in a diesel Volkswagen Golf, parked at Burley Park all day, rests harmless in that tank while it waits. Ring us first — before your keys come out.

## Pump-side draining for petrol in a diesel

Forecourts are where the work often begins, and where a fair share of that closes.

We operate on petrol station forecourts routinely, with the station's consent, and so if you are still at Esso that is generally where the drain takes place.

No place other than a garage can this be stopped with the motor still cold.

Fuel sucked out of your tank and through the filter, right to your high-pressure pump, is what occurs when the engine is started and your car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush covers the fuel filter and your lines together with that tank. That is still not a disaster, and our engineers deal with it where your car stands. What decides it is whether the key was turned in the seconds after the till receipt was read.

Out from the pump, the next customer can get past — so yes, let the staff help you push the vehicle. Very much worth doing.

Cranking the car to shift four vehicle lengths is not.

## Will we cover your part of Armley?

Carr Crofts, Burley, Upper Wortley, Upper Armley, New Wortley — all of them on the runs that carry us out to Armley as well, a residential suburb.

We still come. The places above are merely the closest neighbours, and a page is there for the majority of places around West Yorkshire, so an absence from the list is not an absence from the coverage.

Contact us to check rather than presuming — boundaries above all, and anywhere a satnav might get wrong.

The area this page includes is on the map.

Roadside, forecourt, driveway, car park: the lot is ground our engineers work on, and none of that needs the car to move to us.

Twenty to nine. By Armley Park Primary School. Late already, and the receipt in your hand says unleaded. Turn your hazards on, leave your motor alone, then phone us. You might think three miles is nothing, in the Skoda Octavia or anything else — except that fuel is delivered on demand, and a run taken in a rush demands a great deal of it.

## Armley: stuck wherever you pulled up

The opportunity to pull in somewhere suitable does not come to everybody.

If you worked it out after setting off and finished up by the verge on Arksey Place, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards flashing, that is a normal call for us instead of a rare one.

Whether you sit with the vehicle or step away from it depends on whether sitting nearby feels wise.

It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that is the trouble: start it up to reach somewhere better and that blend goes further into the fuel system with every mile travelled.

Carrying on does the vehicle far more harm than our van driving out to an awkward spot, and that's no trouble for us.

## Run it already? Stop, then check this

under a mile from Armley, the local Inner Ring Road is what matters now.

Some distance along, and onto it in the first place: a misfilled diesel will usually do both before anything seems wrong. What you get then is rarely a neat stop. Power falls away, your idle gets uneven, and there may be some smoke.

Take the first exit that is safe, pull up there, and never start the vehicle to reposition.

Presume the worst of it on a long trip. Anything close to the under 3 miles to the nearest city, and the petrol has been through the fuel filter, through your pump, through the fuel injectors. Say so when you phone. What our technicians bring differs.

## About Armley

Armley is a suburban area in West Yorkshire, situated on the River Aire and close to the city centre of Leeds. Armley has a mix of terraced housing and local amenities, and is located near other suburbs such as Carr Crofts and Burley. Armley sits at an elevation of around 61 metres, and is approximately 1.4 miles from Leeds city centre. Armley is part of the larger Leeds urban area, with easy access to the city's facilities and services.

## What our technicians do when our engineers reach you around Armley

- The replies change the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price: what was put in, how much of that, and whether your motor has run.

- Out comes the tainted mixture.

- Lines flushed, filter cleared. Whatever remains later on is not the thing that started the problem.

- Bleeding your system follows, once clean diesel is in.

- Our technicians start it and make sure it runs correctly on clean diesel.

From that point, you're ready to set off.

Long-term damage is very unusual when it has been spotted quickly, and because all of it is done where the car is, it never needs to be taken to a garage.

Our technicians flush your lines rather than only draining that tank, and the reason is that weakened fuel has already arrived at your filter and your pump: it was a start and a drive, however short. The drive genuinely assists — pulled off the forecourt, receipt read, a diesel Vauxhall Astra parked up near Leeds City Mission Hub a few hundred yards later is about as well as this goes once the motor has turned. Ring us then leave it off.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank instead, in Armley?

The fault isn't the same, though the first rule is — don't crank it — if what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol.

The lubrication a fuel system depends on gets stripped away by petrol, which thins your diesel.

Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that leads to corrosion and deposits.

Usually the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the details sits on its own Armley page. Both are ours to handle.

Knocking? Ragged idle? White smoke, throttle gone limp? That is your wrongly fuelled Ford Kuga, a diesel, saying what's wrong with it. Stop wherever you happen to be, maybe close to Armley One Stop Centre, then leave the restarting alone.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain will cost around Armley

What changes the price is set out below, as this job is not one job and our engineers can't truthfully put a single number on this page.

- Whether the engine has been started or driven. This is the key one.

- Wrong fuel in, against what your tank takes — that ratio.

- Which went in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there's sensible for a technician.

A clear answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: the car, the amount, and whether it has run.

For the car at home that's going nowhere and is not urgent, is fine too.

Somebody sure of themselves will tell you to drain the vehicle then put fresh diesel in. Half right, that. Try it on a diesel Peugeot 208 close to Wesley Road Chapel and the engine will start — which is exactly why it sounds like sense. Here is the catch: there's petrol left in your filter and the feed lines, and the first thing the motor does is suck it back through your pump again. Emptying a tank achieves nothing about fuel that already left that tank. Phone us. Your circuit gets purged, the fuel filter comes off where there is one worth removing, and that is what separates a fixed vehicle from one that simply starts.

## Petrol in diesel: frequent questions around Armley

## At a petrol station in Armley, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes, and it is where a large part of this work gets done.

Often, provided the site consents: Shell, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether we can work in that place is something our engineers answer there and then.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Ratio decides it instead of litres — and more than either, whether your engine has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a distinct matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that determines how much work is needed is if that mixture has been pulled through the system.

## I drove the vehicle after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving shifts the trouble along — out of that tank, into your pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one really helpful thing left to you isn't restarting it.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

No. Carried out correctly, draining and cleaning is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is unaffected by it.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a dispute with one, which is another good reason to leave the car switched off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

No. It belongs to a separate issue from a different era, and petrol has weakened something no oil of that kind puts back.

Afterwards? Still petrol in that tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

Wherever your car is, our engineers drain and flush it there, so a trip to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## Standing next to it?

Do not switch the car back on.

Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, switch off, and no restarting the vehicle later on.

This is recoverable from a lot more commonly than people fear, and a parked, cold car is the best position to be in.

Clearing wrongly fuelled vehicles, Armley and the rest of West Yorkshire, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
