# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Auchenback? Don't Start It

Never turn on your engine. If the fuel is still inside your tank and the engine has not yet run, a drain is almost always all it requires — and that's decided in the coming few minutes, not by how much went in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled cars where they are, all over Auchenback and the rest of East Renfrewshire, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive.

Ring us and we can explain what comes from here before you attempt anything else.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, step by step

- Give a petrol motor diesel and it will generally fail to run at all, and so the driver stops there and so does the harm. Feed a diesel petrol and the thing starts, it ticks over, it drives off — fine enough for a couple of miles. People have that backwards, which is the part they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So don't start the car. And once started, don't believe it: the fuel system is wearing while you drive.

- Two things, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps that injection pump and injectors oiled. Petrol only handles the one. Which is why the ignition remains off also — flick it on and you usually prime that system, and that is petrol exiting that tank for exactly those parts.

- That advice presumes a diesel fuel system accepts petrol by percentage. It won't. Put diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you end with is a larger tank of the same blend. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.

- Stay put if it's sensible to. Hazards on, ignition off, leave the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Divernia Way, anywhere — a tricky place for us is better than a started motor, and nothing is simpler for us to deal with than a motor that never shifted.

- The van showing up instead of circling depends on two things: a postcode that starts G78 2, and whatever is closest to you with a sign on it. Have both ready before you phone.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Say what went in, approximately how many litres, and also whether the engine has started. Those three details shape the entire visit.

Don't drive it home. Petrol-thinned diesel has run through your high-pressure fuel pump in real quantity on the way in, and the drive back would more or less double that for nothing at all. Phone — the platform is fine. There is no need to stand over the Renault Megane outside Barrhead while the work gets done, and our team would far rather talk to you tonight than realise on Monday.

## Can petrol be drained from a diesel on the forecourt?

Most of this job begins at a pump, meaning a big share of it gets done on site.

Still at Asda? Then that is typically where it happens. Garage forecourts are normal for us, with the permission of the owner.

A forecourt is the single setting the mistake is spotted before your motor has run.

The few seconds between checking your receipt and reaching for the keys settle how much needs flushing. Anywhere other than the forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was started and driven to get there, so fuel was drawn from your tank, through the filter and into the high-pressure pump. That means the fuel lines and the fuel filter need flushing as well as your tank. It's not a disaster, and our technicians can still sort it out where the car sits.

Roll the vehicle out of the way if the staff offer, and they generally will. The next motorist gets by the petrol pump, and that's worth doing.

Moving it four bays does not warrant starting it.

The enquiry our technicians hope for runs like this: diesel Skoda Octavia, a few litres of unleaded, run a couple of miles, now switched off outside Scotmid. What we are actually asking is how much fuel your pump has sucked — not how long ago it was.

## Auchenback and the areas near it

The same journeys carry us to Springhill, Arthurlie, Barrhead, Dovecothall and Crossmill besides Auchenback, which is a residential suburb.

We do come. Those names above are only the nearest neighbours, and a page exists for most places across East Renfrewshire, so an absence from the list isn't an absence from our coverage.

Guessing is the mistake to skip, above all on a border or anywhere your satnav gets lost. Contact us to enquire.

This map shows the area the page spans.

The lot is ground our technicians cover: a kerbside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You never bring the vehicle anywhere.

Put diesel in a petrol car and mostly it won't run, so the driver stops there and the harm stops with them. Swap it — petrol into a diesel — and the car starts, idles and pulls away as though nothing had happened, whilst your high-pressure pump works without the lubrication the fuel is meant to be providing. That is the snag, and it is why the diesel Audi A4 will have felt completely usual coming back from the local primary school. They always do. From behind the wheel there's nothing to alert you about, and so nothing warns you. Phone us with about how far you went, and how hard; the second answer matters more than the first.

## Auchenback: stuck where you parked

Not everybody gets the chance to stop somewhere sensible.

Set off, then twigged? Landed by the verge beside Oakbank Drive, or stuck in some lay-by with the hazard lights on? That's a normal call here. Not an odd one.

Clear of the motor when it is not safe to be inside, with it when it is.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws the blend further into your fuel system — and oblige it frequently will, which is why the motor doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere safer.

Our van driving to an awkward location is no trouble for us, and it is a lot better for the vehicle than driving on.

## Already run it? Petrol in a diesel over some miles

Here is where your M77 counts, under 3 miles away from Auchenback.

It will usually take you onto it, and some way along, before you spot a thing. Then it's smoke, a lumpy idle and power ebbing away — not a clean stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.

Never restart it to move it. Pull off at the next safe junction then turn off.

Long drive? Anything approaching the under 10 miles to the closest city and you should presume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of that got to by the petrol. Say that on the phone, because it changes what goes in our van.

Fine on the way out, flat on the way back. If that is how the run to Aurs Glen went, that tank is the place to look. Petrol dilutes diesel, and weaker fuel seeps past the tightly fitted components that are meant to build injection pressure — so the further the BMW 5 Series travelled, the less well it held that pressure. Stop somewhere safe, switch off then phone us.

## Auchenback itself

Auchenback is a suburban area situated on the riverside in East Renfrewshire, with a mix of semi-detached housing and local amenities. Auchenback sits at an elevation of 96 metres, close to the nearby communities of Springhill and Arthurlie. Auchenback is located near the town of Barrhead and the city of Glasgow, which is approximately 7.4 miles away. Auchenback has a population of around 3661 residents.

## What we do when we get to you in Auchenback

- The answers alter the work, which is why we ask before pricing: what went in, how much of it, and if your engine has run.

- We empty that tank of all the polluted mixture.

- Fuel lines are rinsed through and the filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the fuel system that created any of this.

- Our technicians put clean diesel in and prime the fuel system.

- Our engineers start the engine and make sure it runs smoothly on new diesel.

From there, you're ready to pull away.

Long-term damage is very unusual when it has been caught quickly, and as all of it is done where the vehicle is, it never has to go to a workshop.

Ringing from near Levern Hall? Three things help us. The filler — which side of the vehicle it is on. Room for a technician next to you, without the road being blocked. And whether anything has run since the fill-up. The spot itself hardly counts: on-street is where our technicians work most, and we'd far rather have a cramped space than a vehicle a person has driven somewhere quicker. Then it is a drain for the Vauxhall Astra, a filter change where there is one worth changing, lines purged, clean fuel put round the entire system. By now the worst of that is in the fuel lines and not your tank.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Auchenback is a separate problem

If what got in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the opening step is unchanged — don't start the car — yet the fault is not.

Weakened diesel, and no lubrication left for the system that depends on it. That's petrol.

Corrosion and build-up are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, since AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

Our engineers cover both, and AdBlue removal around Auchenback has its own page with the details — including why it's frequently the more serious of the two.

## Auchenback pricing for a petrol-in-diesel drain

One figure wouldn't be fair here, because this isn't one job. These are the things that move it:

- Has it been run or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, weighed against how much your tank can hold.

- Whether it's petrol or AdBlue.

- Whether a technician can safely get to your car and work on it, which depends on where your vehicle is.

The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm instead of as a range.

For the vehicle at home that is going nowhere and isn't pressing, is fine too.

## Petrol in diesel: common queries in Auchenback

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Auchenback?

Yes — forecourts are where a fair share of this happens.

Tell us which one you are at when you phone and we'll tell you whether we can work there. With the owner's permission our engineers work at Barrhead Services and the other forecourts locally regularly.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Whether your engine has run matters much more, though the ratio counts too, instead of the litres.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: separate scenarios, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if your fuel system has had that mix drawn through it.

## I drove the car after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Pull in somewhere sensible, turn off, then keep the car off.

Not restarting it is the single most useful thing available to you now. Driving does move the trouble out of the tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays salvageable far more commonly than people fear.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

It isn't an alteration, and so a drain and flush carried out properly doesn't invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

A disagreement over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

Two-stroke oil solves a distinct fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol diluted. No.

The pump still has to put up with it, as your tank still has petrol in it afterwards.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

No. We drain and flush the car wherever it is, so there is no need to take it to a main dealer.

## Is your vehicle still with you?

Never switch your engine back on.

Switch it off somewhere safe and leave it off, if you have already driven it.

A parked, cold vehicle is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from much more often than motorists expect.

Draining misfuelled vehicles, Auchenback and the rest of East Renfrewshire, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
