# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Badger Farm

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled cars where they are, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, all over Badger Farm and the rest of Hampshire. The very first thing to do is not to start the engine. When your engine has not yet run and the fuel is still inside that tank, a drain is almost always all it needs, and the following few minutes decide that, not how much got in.

Call us and then we can explain what happens next before you try much else.

## What to try first about petrol in a diesel

- Don't fire it up — and never trust it if it does start. That is the part drivers get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. A petrol engine fed diesel generally just won't run, so the driver stops and the harm ends with them. A diesel filled with petrol typically starts, ticks over and drives off quite happily for a couple of miles. It is not okay. It's wearing out your fuel system as you drive.

- Two tasks, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps your high-pressure fuel pump and injectors oiled. Petrol only handles the one. That is why the ignition remains off also — flick it on and you frequently prime the system, and that's petrol leaving the tank for precisely those parts.

- Do not tip diesel on top to water down it. A diesel fuel system will not accept petrol by percentage the way that advice suggests, and topping up takes out nothing — it simply gives you a bigger tank of the same blend. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is just petrol.

- A car that has never shifted is the easiest one to sort, and so remain where you are if you reasonably can. Stopped on the verge on Ridgeway? Hazards on, then leave it there. A difficult place works for us better than a started engine.

- Before you dial, have your location. Anything closest to you with a sign on it, plus a postcode starting SO22 4 — that is what decides whether our van turns up or circles.

- Three facts shape your whole call-out: the liquid you poured in, the ballpark volume involved, plus whether anything has been going since. The line is 0333 366 0103.

## Can petrol be taken out of your diesel on a forecourt?

Plenty of this job starts at the pump, which means a big part of it ends up finished there.

If you're still on the forecourt at Sainsbury's, that's generally where the drain happens — our technicians work on petrol station forecourts regularly, with the owner's permission.

Before your engine has started — the forecourt is the single place it gets stopped.

Everywhere else — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the vehicle was switched on and moved to get there, which means fuel was pulled from your tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump. That is not a calamity, and our engineers can still put it right where it stands. It does mean your lines and the filter need cleaning as well as the tank, and that's determined by the few seconds between checking the receipt and reaching for the keys.

Roll it out of the way if the staff suggest it, and they generally will. The next driver gets through the petrol pump, and that's worth doing.

Firing the car to roll four car lengths is not.

## Badger Farm and the areas beside it

The same rounds get us to Stanmore, St Cross, Olivers Battery, Sleepers Hill and West Hill along with Badger Farm, which is a residential suburb.

If yours is not on the list it doesn't mean we never come — there are pages for the majority of towns in Hampshire, and the ones listed above are simply the closest neighbours.

Phone and ask instead of presuming — borders particularly, and wherever your satnav may struggle with.

The map is the area this page covers.

Every bit of it is ground our engineers cover: a roadside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You do not bring your vehicle anywhere.

Each restart primes the lines and draws more petrol through your filter then into the pump. So a misfuelled diesel Dacia Duster on the zig-zags outside Stanmore Primary School is a nuisance, whereas the same car fired up three more times to be polite is a fuel system instead of a tank. Someone will tell you to move the vehicle out of that gateway and fix it later. Do not. Leave it, let them moan, then ring us.

## Stuck by the roadside somewhere around Badger Farm?

Not everyone gets the opportunity to pull in somewhere sensible.

A common call for us instead of an unusual one: noticed after setting off, ended up along the verge on Meadow Way or in a lay-by with the hazard lights flashing.

Remain beside the vehicle if it's wise to wait in it, but clear of the vehicle when it's not.

It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that is the problem: fire it up to get to somewhere handier and that blend goes further into your fuel system with every mile travelled.

A van driving to a tricky place is no problem for us, and it is far better for the vehicle than pressing on.

It will fire up. It will pull away perfectly well. That is the problem, as a diesel on a diluted tank acts generally while wearing the components its fuel should be protecting. So no, do not try the drive home from The Bell Inn — leave the BMW 5 Series and phone.

## Petrol in a diesel, but the motor has travelled

This is where the local M3 matters, under 3 miles away from Badger Farm.

It will frequently take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is smoke, a lumpy idle and power draining away — not a tidy stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Get off at the next safe exit, turn off, and do not restart the car to reposition.

Assume the worst of that on a long run. Anything close to the under 3 miles to the nearest city, and the contamination has been through the fuel filter, through your pump, through your injectors. Tell us when you ring. What we bring differs.

Do not drive it home to buy yourself time. You already have it: nothing gets worse whilst your car stands, as a diesel Audi A6 parked at Stanmore Recreation Ground is doing none of what it did on the way there. The pump has stopped turning.

## All about Badger Farm

Badger Farm is a suburban area located near the city of Winchester in Hampshire, sitting at an elevation of 84 metres above sea level. Badger Farm is characterized by its predominantly semi-detached housing stock, reflecting the typical residential development patterns of the South East region. Badger Farm is situated close to other nearby places such as Stanmore, St Cross, and Olivers Battery, and is approximately 61 miles from London. Badger Farm has a population of around 6410 residents.

## The visit around Badger Farm, step by step

- The replies shape the work, which is why we ask before quoting: what got in, how much of it, and whether your engine has run.

- Your tank gets emptied completely.

- Fuel lines are purged through and the fuel filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the fuel system that started any of this.

- We put clean diesel in and bleed the fuel system.

- Your engine is turned on and tested to confirm it runs correctly on clean diesel.

The vehicle is then ready for you to drive away.

Our technicians do all of this wherever the car has stopped, which means it never has to go to a workshop, and if it has been spotted soon, it is very unusual for there to be permanent damage.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank instead, in Badger Farm?

AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the opening instruction is unchanged — the motor remains off — whereas the problem under it is a distinct one altogether.

Petrol weakens the diesel and removes the protection the fuel system depends on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with the diesel and you get rust instead, plus deposits.

Both are ours. There is a separate Badger Farm page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

The slimmer petrol nozzle fits a current diesel filler neck with practically no resistance at all, which makes this mechanical instead of sloppy. New spots see most of that for that reason. So: topped up close to Stanmore Community Library without thinking, in a diesel Volvo XC60 you have had for two days? Call us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars tend to get driven further before anybody spots it, and mileage determines how much petrol gets to the fuel injectors.

## Badger Farm pricing for a petrol-in-diesel drain

What moves the figure is set out below, since this job is not one job and we cannot truthfully put a single price on this page.

- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, compared with how much that tank holds.

- The kind of fluid in the tank, petrol or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there's safe for a van.

Tell us the car, the amount and if it has run, and you will get a clear answer instead of a range.

For the car at home that is going nowhere and is not time-critical, is fine too.

The fuel filter, the fuel lines, the pump and the rail: that is where that blend is once a diesel has run, and it does not come back out with that tank contents. So that tank isn't where most of the trouble waits by this point, and a diesel Skoda Superb that got near Level.10 Church needs your system purged instead of drained.

## Petrol in diesel queries from Badger Farm drivers

## At a petrol station in Badger Farm, can you do a fuel drain there?

A good share of this work gets done there, so yes.

Tell us which one you're at when you call and we will tell you if our technicians can work there. With the station's permission our engineers work at BP and the other forecourts nearby routinely.

## Is there a safe quantity of petrol in a diesel?

It hinges on the proportion instead of the litres, and a lot more on whether the motor has run.

Five litres into a nearly dry tank isn't five into a full one, no. But both land on the same question in the end: has that mixture been sucked right through, or has it not?

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?

Turn off somewhere safe, and keep it that way after you stop.

It is salvageable far more regularly than motorists expect, even though driving is what takes the issue from the tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most helpful thing you can do now isn't restart it.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

It is not a change, so a drain then flush carried out correctly does not cancel a manufacturer's warranty.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a dispute with one, which is another reason to leave it turned off.

## Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?

What petrol has thinned isn't replaced by two-stroke oil, which is an old remedy for a different problem. So no.

The tank still has petrol in it after that, and your pump still has to cope with it.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

No. Our engineers drain and flush the vehicle wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a main dealer.

## Waiting next to it?

Switched off is the way the car remains.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, turn off, and no restarting the car afterwards.

This is recoverable from a lot more frequently than people expect, and a parked, cold vehicle is the best place to be in.

Emptying wrongly fuelled cars, Badger Farm and the rest of Hampshire, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
