# Ballyvoy: Petrol in a Diesel Car? Here Is What Happens

Whatever you do, never switch your engine on, even for a moment, to move the vehicle. Stop; leave the car off.

Has not been run? Then petrol in a diesel will usually be a simple drain-and-flush job wherever the car has stopped — and no other factor settles that more than these next few minutes do.

Anywhere you are in Ballyvoy, this is the order things go from now.

## Petrol in a diesel, motor off — the first minute

In this sequence, and before everything else:

- The ignition off, keys out. Switched on, your ignition can prime the system — and priming is what moves petrol out of the tank into the components it damages.

- No diesel on top. More fuel in takes away none of that petrol — it only makes you with extra of the same mixture.

- Being seen comes first near moving traffic: put the hazards on, and only then deal with anything else.

- By hand, never on the motor: that is how it comes off the pump. Ask the forecourt staff to help you roll, whatever the distance.

- Keep the till receipt. It says which fuel went in and roughly how much, which is the first thing we will ask.

Still driving when you realised? Come off the M77 at the next junction if that's where you are, over 50 miles from Ballyvoy, and stop somewhere sensible and not pressing on to the services. Then begin at step one.

## The fork in each Ballyvoy fuel drain: has it run yet?

One answer is what everything after this stage depends on.

If the motor hasn't run at all:

- Only your tank has petrol in it for now.

- The job is a drain and a flush, usually done where the car stands.

- No position is better, and it is why the first step counts so much.

If your motor has run, even briefly:

- Petrol has been pulled from that tank, through the fuel filter and into your lines.

- Run it farther and the petrol reaches your injectors, having passed through the fuel pump first.

- Lines flushed, your filter seen to, occasionally more: the job expands as the distance does.

The reason the line falls there: diesel lubricates your high-pressure pump and the injectors as it passes through them, and petrol doesn't.

In the tank, sitting still, petrol does no harm.

The components that move it are grinding the moment petrol is being pumped.

## What to have ready when you call about petrol in a diesel from Ballyvoy

A little preparation is the difference between a van that finds you and a van that goes round.

- Where you are. A postcode starting BT54 6 is the ideal place to start.

- Name the road — Wallace Cottages or wherever you have pulled up — or the car park.

- Or the nearest landmark. A car park is easier to find by what it serves, such as the one outside the local shops.

- The car. Make, model, and that it is a diesel.

- Say which went in — petrol or AdBlue — because AdBlue is a different job, with a page of its own for Ballyvoy.

- About how much — in litres from your receipt, or by how long the nozzle stayed in.

- If it's run, how far and how heavily — as well as whether it has run at all.

- Settle who has the car before we get there: some hire or company agreements want the owner to authorise this work, and that is faster beforehand.

Then ring 0333 366 0103. If it can wait — the car is at home and going nowhere — does the trick as well.

## The wait for a Ballyvoy fuel drain, and what to do in it

The wait is where well-intended help does the damage. Hold to these.

- Safety before your car. If it has stopped somewhere unsafe, get yourself clear of the traffic and wait away from it. If it is safe where it is, wait with it.

- Not to roll it a couple of yards, not to check it is all right, not for a passer-by's kindness: nobody starts it.

- None of it takes that petrol back out — not two-stroke oil, not injector cleaner, not anything from the boot. So no additives.

- No DIY clearing. Siphoning petrol into a can by the roadside is risky, and it leaves your fuel that has already gone beyond your tank.

- Even your radio or your windows aren't worth switching the ignition on for.

## Step by step: your fuel drain when our van gets there

- First, three queries: which fuel got in, the volume, and has it run? Those answers decide this job, and so our price follows them.

- That tank is drained. The polluted blend comes from that tank.

- If it ran, the lines are carrying petrol that has moved beyond that tank — so they're cleaned.

- The filter is seen to. Cleared, or replaced where your car has a workable one.

- Fresh diesel goes in, and the fuel system is primed.

- Starting it. When the fuel system is primed with new diesel, our engineers fire it up and confirm it runs properly.

Only when it's running on new diesel do we go.

When it has been caught soon, lasting damage is very unusual, and the car returns to normal driving right away.

## Once the fuel drain is done: driving around Ballyvoy once more

- Nothing unusual is needed after a start with fresh diesel — usual driving is all.

- Pull over and call us back if anything seems wrong early on — a light on your dash, smoke from your exhaust, an idle that is lumpy, or a throttle with a dead spot.

- Keep the documents. A hire firm, a fleet manager or an insurer may ask what was carried out.

- Next time, trust the petrol pump's label rather than the colour of its handle.

## About Ballyvoy, for a moment

## Fuel drains round Ballyvoy and beyond

The same teams that take petrol in diesel calls in Ballyvoy cover Ballycastle, Capecastle and Portbraddon, and most of County Antrim beyond them.

Guessing doesn't help close to a border or somewhere hard to describe; a quick ring and a query does.

## Ring, and leave the car off — petrol in a diesel across County Antrim

Petrol in Diesel carries on from there — on your drive, at the kerbside, on the forecourt — once you have done stage one: keys out, engine off, receipt in your pocket.
