# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Bitton

Don't start the motor. If the fuel is still in your tank and your engine has not yet run, a fuel drain is nearly always all it takes — and that gets decided in the next few minutes, not by how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled cars where they stand, throughout Bitton and the rest of Gloucestershire, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive.

Ring us and we will explain what happens after that before you try anything else.

## What to do now about petrol in a diesel

- While you drive, the pump and your injectors suffer. This is why you do not crank it, and why you do not rely on it once it has started. The trick about petrol in a diesel especially — the bit most people get wrong — is that it drives away happily for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine generally can't run at all, which stops the driver and stops the wear with them. This one lets you drive on.

- Turning the ignition on often primes that system, and priming is what moves petrol out of the tank and into the pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps oiled on its way through, before it burns. Petrol does the burning and none of the oiling. Leave the car's ignition off.

- That guidance presumes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It will not. Put diesel on top and nothing at all is removed; what you have is a fuller tank of the same blend. And no, the type makes no difference — super unleaded is just petrol.

- A motor that has never shifted is the easiest one to sort out, and so remain where you are if you sensibly can. Pulled up on the verge on Baron Close? Hazards on, and keep the car there. An odd place suits us better than a started diesel.

- Have your location ready before you dial. A postcode starting BS30 6 and whatever is next to you with a label on it is the difference between the van turning up and our van circling.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Expect three points — what was put in, roughly how much, plus whether your car has been started. Your answers decide whatever happens next.

## On the forecourt: removing petrol from your diesel

It starts at a forecourt, generally. Quite often the work wraps up on site too.

We operate on petrol station forecourts all the time, with the site's permission, and so if you are still at the nearest petrol station that's generally where this drain happens.

A forecourt is the one setting it gets spotted before the engine has run.

Our engineers can still put it right where it sits, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a private drive or in a lay-by, the car has been fired up and moved there, and that sucked fuel through the filter and into the high-pressure pump, right from that tank. None of that is a disaster, although the flush then has to go past your tank to your lines and your filter, and the few seconds between seeing the receipt and going for your key are what settle that.

Wheel it out of the way if the attendants offer, and they generally will. The next motorist gets past the pump, and that's worth doing.

Cranking the car for four car lengths? Not a chance.

We're in car parks like the one outside Waitrose all the time, and it is hardly ever your fuel that complicates them. It is that bay. Motors both sides. Trolleys stacked up behind. Sometimes a height limit at the way in, which determines if our van can reach you at all. So say how hemmed in you are when you call, and which way the car is facing. If there is no space to work next to that BMW 3 Series, our engineers roll it without the motor. That is not fuss over a couple of seconds: starts prime things, mixture comes out of your tank towards your pump, and a vehicle shifted twice for a roomier space is gradually a harder job than one nobody touched.

## Bitton and the villages beside it

As a village, Bitton sees a frequent visit, and the areas round about come along on the same journey: Upton Cheyney and Swineford, Willsbridge and North Stoke, Cowhorn Hill.

There are pages for most locations around Gloucestershire, and the ones mentioned above are just the nearest neighbours — so yours being left off this list says nothing at all about whether our engineers come.

Close to the boundary, or anywhere a satnav gets wrong? Contact us and check rather than presuming.

Use this map for the ground included here.

Our technicians work at the roadside, at forecourts, on driveways and in car parks throughout all of it, and the car does not need to travel to us.

## Kerbside call-outs in Bitton

Not everyone gets the chance to stop anywhere suitable.

A normal call for us rather than an unusual one: worked out after setting off, finished up on the verge beside Aubrey Meads or in a lay-by with your hazards going.

Out of the vehicle when it's not safe to wait there, with it if it is.

Never start it up to get to a better place. It will go — a diesel on petrol generally obliges — and each mile of obliging pulls the mix deeper into the system.

However inconvenient the place, it's no bother for us to come to it, and that's a lot better for the vehicle than pressing on.

## Already driven it? Petrol in a diesel over some miles

This is where your M4 comes in, under 10 miles out of Bitton.

It will usually get you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is some smoke, a lumpy idle and power ebbing away — not a tidy stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Take the first exit that is safe, stop there, and don't start the car to reposition.

Assume the worst of that on a long drive. Anything near the under 10 miles to the closest city, and the mixture has been through your filter, through the pump, through your injectors. Tell us when you call. What our technicians bring differs.

Happy on the way out, gutless on the way back. If that is how that trip to Bitton AFC went, that tank is the place to look. Petrol dilutes diesel, and weaker fuel leaks past the close-fitting components that are meant to build injection pressure — so the farther the Dacia Duster drove, the less well it held that pressure. Pull over somewhere safe, turn off then call us.

## Bitton itself

Bitton is a village situated on the River Avon in Gloucestershire, with a low elevation of around 23 metres. Bitton lies near the city of Bath, approximately 5 miles to the east, and is surrounded by nearby places such as Upton Cheyney and Swineford. Bitton has a mix of housing types, but terraced houses are particularly prevalent in the village. Bitton is located in the South West region of England, about 100 miles west of London.

## Our call-out in Bitton, step by step

- The replies change the work, which is why our engineers ask before quoting: what was put in, how much of that, and if your engine has run.

- Away flows the polluted mixture.

- Fuel lines are purged through and your filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the fuel system that created any of this.

- Bleeding your system follows, once fresh diesel is in.

- Our technicians fire it up and check it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

Your car is then ready for you to drive away.

There's no need for a workshop at any stage, because the work is all done where the car is, and when it's spotted early, long-term damage is very uncommon.

Pulled off the forecourt, read the receipt, and left your diesel Mercedes E-Class up by St. Mary's a couple of hundred yards later? That is about as well as this goes once the engine has turned. Phone us and leave the car off. The short hop truly assists, but it was still a start and a drive, and so weakened fuel has got to the fuel filter and the pump — which is why our engineers flush the lines instead of only draining your tank.

## Bitton AdBlue removal is a different job

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — the engine remains off — while the issue under it's a distinct one altogether.

Weakened diesel, and no protection left for the fuel system that relies on it. That is petrol.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Put that in with the diesel and you get rust instead, plus build-up.

Frequently the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the detail sits on its own Bitton page. Both are ours to deal with.

Strange places are where this happens most, and the reason is mechanical not sloppy: the narrower petrol nozzle goes into a current diesel filler neck with almost no resistance at all. Topped up near War Memorial without thinking, in a diesel Ford Kuga you have had for two days? Ring us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars usually get driven further before anyone realises, and distance is what settles how much petrol ends up at your injectors.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain costs in Bitton

One number wouldn't be honest here, as this is not one job. These are the things that change it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, measured against how much the tank holds.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever got in.

- Access: the car's position, and if working on it there is safe for a van.

Tell us your car, the amount and if it has run, and you will get a straight answer instead of a range.

Vehicle at home, going nowhere, nothing pressing about it — is ideal for that.

A couple of streets, then it stopped. Throttle dead, idle uneven, and your diesel Kia Sportage is parked up close to Upton Cheyney United Reformed Church. The motor is not giving up — that deadness is fuel that will not build pressure. There is no light on the dash for it, and so vehicles like yours generally get driven once more before anybody picks up the phone. Do not. Off, then phone us.

## Bitton drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## At a petrol station around Bitton, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes — forecourts are where a large share of this gets done.

Permission from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like BP is somewhere we are frequently, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the call and you will hear whether working there's possible.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Proportion settles it instead of litres — and more than either, whether your engine has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a distinct situation from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that decides how much work is required is if that mix has been pulled through the fuel system.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the car

Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and keep it off.

Driving takes the trouble along — out of your tank, into your pump and injectors. Drivers fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly valuable thing left to you isn't restarting the car.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty outlasts a drain then flush done to a good standard, which is no modification at all.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause an argument with one, which is another good reason to leave the vehicle turned off.

## Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?

Two-stroke oil solves a different problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol diluted. No.

Afterwards? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to put up with the stuff.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — necessary?

There is no need to bring it to a main dealer, since our engineers drain and flush your car wherever it is.

## Still with your vehicle?

Don't turn the car on again.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, turn off, and no restarting it later on.

Cold and still, a vehicle is in the best place available — and motorists fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.

On-site fuel draining around Bitton and across Gloucestershire — at the kerbside, on the forecourt or at home.
