# Bromborough Pool: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Do not fire up the motor. While the fuel is still sitting in that tank and the engine has not yet turned over, a drain is almost always all it requires — and that gets settled in the coming few minutes, not by how much went in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled cars where they sit, all over Bromborough Pool and the rest of Merseyside, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive.

Ring us and our technicians can tell you what comes next before you do much else.

## Your first five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Whenever you drive, the pump and your injectors suffer. This is why you don't fire it up, and why you do not rely on it once it has started. The trick about petrol in a diesel specifically — the part motorists get wrong — is that it drives off fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine usually can't run at all, which stops the motorist and stops the damage with them. This one lets you carry on.

- Diesel burns, and before it burns it greases — your high-pressure fuel pump, its injectors. Petrol does only the burning. So leave the car's ignition be too: flicking it on is often all it takes to prime your system, and priming carries petrol from the tank into exactly those components.

- Topping up takes out nothing. It hands you a bigger tank of the same blend, because a diesel fuel system does not cope with petrol by percentage the way that guidance assumes — so do not pour diesel on top to thin it. Type is irrelevant too: super unleaded is petrol.

- Stay still if it's sensible to. Hazards on, ignition off, leave it. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Old Court House Road, anywhere — an awkward place for us is better than a started diesel, and nothing is easier for us to sort out than a car that never shifted.

- Know where you are before phoning. A postcode beginning CH62 4, and the name of whatever is nearest to you. Otherwise the van circles instead of showing up.

- What got in, approximately how much, plus whether the engine has run — these three facts settle the entire visit. Dial 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

Call us before you collect the car. Petrol into a diesel Volkswagen Golf this morning, and it outside Port Sunlight ever since? Then the wait has taken nothing from you: fuel in a tank is idle, and any wear was done on the trip in, when your pump was taking diesel that petrol had thinned.

## Forecourt draining for petrol in a diesel

A large share of the work ends up done at a forecourt, as that's where it usually begins.

We operate on garage forecourts regularly, with the station's agreement, and so if you are still at BP that's normally where the drain takes place.

Nowhere else except the forecourt can this be halted with your engine still unstarted.

Fuel sucked out of the tank and through the filter, all the way to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what occurs when the motor is started and your car is driven to where it is now: the car park, the driveway or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes your filter and the lines together with your tank. That is still not a calamity, and our engineers put it right where your car stands. What determines it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the till receipt was checked.

Staff will generally pitch in pushing it clear of the pump, which lets the next customer get through. Accept the offer.

Firing the car just to move four car lengths is not.

## Bromborough Pool and the villages beside it

Being a residential suburb, Bromborough Pool sees a routine call, while its neighbours round about go with it on the same trip: Port Sunlight and Spital, New Ferry and Lower Bebington, Bromborough.

There are separate pages for most towns around Merseyside, and the ones listed above are merely the immediate neighbours — so yours being absent from this list tells you nothing about if our technicians come.

Ring us and check instead of assuming, above all if you're on a boundary or anywhere the satnav can't find.

This map is the ground the page includes.

Every bit of it is ground our engineers serve: a roadside, a forecourt, a driveway, a car park. You don't bring the car anywhere.

Hazards on. Motor off. Phone us. It's twenty to nine at the gates of Church Drive Primary School, you are late, and the receipt says unleaded — and although three miles in your Skoda Octavia sounds like nothing, fuel gets metered on demand, and a frantic dash needs plenty of that.

## Bromborough Pool: broken down wherever you parked

Not everyone has the chance to stop somewhere safe.

Hazards going in a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge beside Boniface Close since you realised after setting off — our technicians take that call regularly enough that it's the ordinary kind.

Clear of the car if it is not wise to be there, beside it when it is.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that blend further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why the motor does not get restarted to limp somewhere better.

We will send the van to a difficult place without any trouble, and for the car that's a lot better than driving on.

## Run it already? Pull over, and see this

The local M53 is the one which counts here, and it runs under 3 miles from Bromborough Pool.

A misfilled diesel will often get you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong, while the symptoms when they come are usually a drop in power, a rough idle and smoke instead of a tidy stop.

The first sensible junction is the one to take. Turn off there, then leave the restarting alone.

On a longer trip — anything near the under 5 miles to the nearest city — assume the contamination has been through the filter, your pump and the injectors, and tell us when you ring. It affects what our technicians bring.

## A little about Bromborough Pool

Bromborough Pool is a suburban area on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, situated near the coast and approximately 4 miles from Liverpool. Bromborough Pool has a relatively low elevation of around 13 metres above sea level, and its housing stock is predominantly terraced. Bromborough Pool is close to nearby places such as Port Sunlight, Spital, and New Ferry, and it is located within commuting distance of Liverpool.

## When our engineers arrive with you around Bromborough Pool: what happens

- The answers change the work, which is why our technicians ask before giving a price: what was put in, how much of that, and if the motor has run.

- Out goes the contaminated mixture.

- What is left in the system should not be what caused the issue, so the fuel lines get purged and your filter cleaned.

- Your system gets bled, on new diesel.

- It's started with fresh diesel in it, and our engineers make sure that it's running correctly.

The car is then ready for you to drive away.

Our engineers do everything wherever your car has ended up, which means it never has to be taken to a workshop, and if it has been spotted early, it is very unusual for there to be lasting damage.

Off the forecourt, receipt read, a couple of hundred yards, parked near St. Matthew's Church & Family Centre. For a diesel Dacia Duster whose motor has turned, that's about the best version there is. Ring us, then let the car stand with your ignition alone. Short assists, really — but a start is a start and a drive is a drive, and the fuel filter has had weakened fuel through it, and so has your pump. Which is why the lines get cleaned and not just that tank emptied.

## A different problem: AdBlue in a diesel tank in Bromborough Pool

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the opening instruction is unchanged — your engine remains off — while the issue beneath it's a different one altogether.

The protection a fuel system depends on is stripped away by petrol, which thins your diesel.

Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that leads to corrosion and build-up.

Both are ours. There's a separate Bromborough Pool page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

A vehicle you picked up two days ago gets driven further before anybody sees anything, which is the hire and courtesy fault in one sentence — and how far it went is what determines the amount of petrol getting to the injectors. Nothing careless about the mistake itself: a current diesel filler neck accepts the smaller petrol nozzle with practically no resistance, so strange spots see most of these. Call us from wherever you are, near Christ Church or not, and we will head to the Peugeot 3008.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain will cost around Bromborough Pool

One price would not be honest here, since this isn't one job. These are the things that change it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else counts for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, weighed against how much that tank takes.

- Whether it was unleaded or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a van reach it and work there sensibly?

Tell us what your vehicle is, how much got in, and whether your motor has run. A clear answer comes back, not a range.

For the vehicle at home that is going nowhere and isn't urgent, works too.

Purged, not cleared — that is what a diesel BMW 5 Series which got as far as Gladstone Theatre needs. Running a diesel puts the mixture into the fuel filter, the fuel lines, the pump and the rail, none of which empties with the tank, and so by now that tank holds the smaller part of the problem.

## Bromborough Pool motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## I am on a forecourt in Bromborough Pool. Can you drain the vehicle on the spot?

A fair share of this work gets done there, so yes.

Our technicians visit Asda and the other forecourts around town routinely, with the owner's agreement — tell us which one you are at when you call and we'll tell you if our engineers can work there.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Ratio settles it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your engine has run.

Five litres into an almost dry tank is not five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that mixture been drawn right through, or has it not?

## I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and keep it off.

Driving shifts the trouble along — out of the tank, into the pump and injectors. Drivers fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly helpful thing left to you isn't restarting it.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

It isn't a modification, so a drain and flush carried out correctly does not void a manufacturer's warranty.

Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

Two-stroke oil solves a distinct issue, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol thinned. No.

Petrol stays in that tank later on, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

Wherever your car is, we drain and clean it there, so a visit to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## You, and the vehicle, still together?

Leave it switched off.

Turn it off somewhere sensible and leave it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and still, a motor is in the best position available — and people fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Clearing misfilled vehicles, Bromborough Pool and the rest of Merseyside, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
