# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Buckland?

Never fire up the motor. If the fuel is still inside that tank and the motor has not yet run, a drain is nearly always all it requires — and that's determined in the coming few minutes, not by how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrongly fuelled vehicles where they sit, throughout Buckland and the rest of Buckinghamshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive.

Our engineers will show you what the next stage is. Contact us — that happens ahead of everything else.

## What next? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

- Don't fire it up — and don't rely on it when it starts. That is the part motorists get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol motor fed diesel normally just can't run, so the motorist stops and the harm stops with them. A diesel fed petrol normally starts, idles and pulls away perfectly well for several miles. It is not all right. It's grinding your fuel system as you drive.

- Switching the car's ignition on frequently primes the system, and priming is what carries petrol out of the tank and into the pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps greased on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol does the burning and none of the oiling. Leave your ignition alone.

- That guidance assumes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It does not. Put diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you end with is a fuller tank of the same mixture. And no, the type makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.

- We would much rather travel to an odd place than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is quicker to deal with than a vehicle that hasn't shifted. On the verge on Beechwood Way, that means hazards on then leave the vehicle.

- Find out where you are before ringing. A postcode beginning HP22 5, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the van circles instead of turning up.

- What went in, roughly how much, and if the motor has run — these three facts decide your whole visit. Ring 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

Your high-pressure pump did that morning run working on a fluid that had shed most of the protection it is designed around. Diesel lubricates that pump, and the injectors with it, before any of the fuel ignites; petrol does the burning and none of the lubricating. So take a diesel Renault Megane, fuelled at quarter past eight, driven in to work, and parked standing at Stoke Mandeville until the penny drops around eleven. Three hours of sitting have altered nothing about it. The few miles before that altered a good deal, which is why the thing our technicians ask you is about distance rather than time. Call us. Leave it precisely where it stands.

## Can petrol be drained out of a diesel on a forecourt?

A large portion of the work ends up finished at a pump, as that's where it mostly begins.

If you're still at the forecourt at Shell, that is typically where the drain takes place — our technicians work on petrol station forecourts all the time, with the owner's agreement.

Before the motor has run — the forecourt is the only place the mistake ends up halted.

The few seconds between reading the receipt and reaching for the keys decide how much needs flushing. Everywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — your car was switched on and driven to get there, so fuel was drawn from that tank, through the fuel filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump. That means your lines and the fuel filter require cleaning as well as your tank. It's not a calamity, and we can still put it right where your car sits.

Clear of the pump, the next motorist can get through — so yes, let the staff help you roll it. Worth it.

Moving the car four spaces doesn't merit starting the engine.

## Buckland plus the places beside it

Buckland is a rural village, so our vans are out to the town and to anywhere near it on the same trips: Bucklandwharf, Aston Clinton, Drayton Beauchamp, Wilstone Green and Wilstone.

Not on this list? That means nothing. The names above are simply the nearest few, and nearly all places around Buckinghamshire have a page of their own somewhere on the site.

Call us to ask instead of assuming, especially where you are on the border or somewhere your satnav misreads.

This map shows the ground this page covers.

The car does not need to come to us. Our technicians work over all of it — kerbside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

## Broken down on the kerbside in Buckland

Some drivers get no safe place to pull in at all.

Set off, then realised? Ended up on the verge beside Lower Icknield Way, or sat in some lay-by with the hazard lights going? That is a normal call here. Not an odd one.

Whether you remain by the motor or step clear of it hangs on whether being in it is sensible.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that blend further into the system — and oblige it frequently will, which is why your motor doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere safer.

However awkward the spot, it is no problem for us to come to it, and that is a lot better for the vehicle than driving on.

You head off at the end, once we have started the engine and confirmed it runs correctly on clean diesel, with your system primed. Before that, in the car park by The Bell, the polluted fuel comes out of that tank, the fuel lines get cleaned and the filter comes off where your Mercedes C-Class has a replaceable one. It all begins with three questions when we reach the car: what went in, how much of it, and whether it has been started since.

## Run it already? Pull over, then check this

This is where the M1 matters, under 15 miles from Buckland.

It will often take you onto it, and some way along, before you spot a thing. Then it is smoke, a rough idle and power ebbing away — not a neat stop. Misfilled diesels seldom give you one of those.

The first sensible exit is the one to take. Switch off there, and leave the restarting alone.

Long trip? Anything close to the under 25 miles to the closest city and you should presume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it got to by the petrol. Say that on the phone, because it changes what goes in the van.

None of it is the engine failing. That is the part worth hearing, and it's why the normal Aston Clinton Park call ends better than it sounds: a diesel Peugeot 3008 drives out there without a murmur, comes back with the power gone, the idle uneven and perhaps a little smoke, and the cause is your fuel no longer acting like diesel. Diesel has to be thick enough to seal the tightly fitted components it runs through; petrol dilutes it; and a diesel injection system is hydraulic as much as chemical, needing your fuel to hold pressure rather than only to burn. So pressure that should build and stay built leaks past clearances, delivery turns up poorer and later and less even than built, and all of that stops once your fuel is corrected.

## All about Buckland

Buckland is a small village in Buckinghamshire, situated inland at an elevation of 107 metres, with semi-detached housing being the predominant type. Buckland lies approximately 32 miles from London and 16 miles from St Albans, with nearby places including Bucklandwharf, Aston Clinton, and Drayton Beauchamp. Buckland has a population of around 983 residents, making it a relatively small community. Buckland is surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Chiltern Hills,

## What happens when our engineers reach you in Buckland

- The responses change the work, which is why our technicians ask before quoting: what got in, how much of it, and if your motor has run.

- The tainted fuel comes from your tank.

- Our engineers purge the fuel lines and clean your filter, so what is left in the system isn't what created the issue.

- Priming follows, once clean diesel is in.

- The motor is turned on and checked to confirm it runs correctly on new diesel.

From there, you're ready to drive away.

Everything is done where the vehicle is, so it never has to go to a workshop, and when it has been caught quickly, long-term damage is very uncommon.

Why we are blunt about not driving on: your pump sits ahead of your injectors, and so whatever a wearing pump loses passes downstream with your fuel. Leave the Audi A3 by Church of All Saints and phone us.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank instead, around Buckland?

If what went in was AdBlue rather than petrol, the first instruction is unchanged — don't crank it — but this issue is not.

Petrol dilutes your diesel and removes the protection the fuel system depends on.

Rust and build-up are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, since AdBlue is urea in water.

Our engineers cover both, and AdBlue removal in Buckland has its own page with the detail — including why it is usually the more significant of the two.

Most of these happen somewhere new, and the cause is mechanical not sloppy — almost no resistance meets a slimmer petrol nozzle entering a newer diesel filler neck. Two days into a diesel Citroen C3, a fill-up close to Buckland Hall that you didn't think about? Phone us from where you are. Courtesy and hire cars go further before anyone notices it, and the further they go, the more petrol winds up at your injectors.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain will cost in Buckland

We cannot put one figure on this page truthfully, as the job is not one job. What shifts it:

- Has it been run or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- Wrong fuel in, against what your tank holds — that ratio.

- Whether it is petrol or AdBlue.

- Where your car is, and if a technician can safely reach and work on it.

A clear answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: your vehicle, the quantity, and whether it has run.

Not pressing, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then is fine.

## Questions we get about petrol in diesel around Buckland

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Buckland?

A fair part of this work takes place there, so yes.

Agreement from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like another forecourt nearby is somewhere we are often enough, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the phone and you'll hear if working there is possible.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

It depends on the proportion rather than the litres, and a lot more on whether the motor has run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: separate scenarios, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the system has had that mix pulled through it.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove the car. Now what?

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving is what takes the trouble from that tank into the pump and injectors — but it's recoverable much more frequently than motorists fear, and the single most useful thing you can do now is not restart the car.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

No. Carried out properly, emptying and cleaning is no modification at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one, which is another reason to leave the vehicle switched off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

What petrol has thinned is not put back by two-stroke oil, which is an old remedy for a separate problem. So no.

Petrol stays in that tank afterwards, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no reprieve from it.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — essential?

No. Our engineers drain and clean your car wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a dealership.

## Standing next to it?

Leave the car switched off.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, switch off, then let it remain that way.

This is recoverable from far more regularly than people expect, and a stationary, cold car is the best place to be in.

Emptying misfilled vehicles, Buckland and the rest of Buckinghamshire, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
