# Burbage: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes misfuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive, throughout Burbage and the rest of Leicestershire. The very first thing to do is not to turn on the engine. While your engine has not run and the fuel is still in the tank, a drain is nearly always all it needs, and the next few minutes settle that, not how much was put in.

Phone and our team shall explain what follows from here before you try anything else.

## The first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- Whenever you drive, your pump and the injectors suffer. That's why you don't fire it up, and why you don't believe it once it has started. The trick about petrol in a diesel in particular — the point motorists get wrong — is that it drives away happily for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine normally can't run at all, which stops the motorist and stops the harm with them. This one lets you keep going.

- Flicking your ignition on commonly primes your system, and priming is what pulls petrol out of that tank and into the pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps lubricated on its way through, before it burns. Petrol manages the burning and none of the protecting. Leave your ignition be.

- Do not add diesel on top to weaken it. A diesel fuel system doesn't handle petrol by percentage the way that guidance assumes, and topping up clears nothing — it simply gives you a larger tank of the same blend. The grade makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.

- We would sooner travel to an odd spot than have it started — so if you sensibly can, sit tight. Nothing is quicker to deal with than a vehicle that has never shifted. On the verge on Grove Road, that means hazards on and leave the car.

- Find out where you are before phoning. A postcode that starts LE10 2, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the van circles instead of turning up.

- Dial 0333 366 0103. Anticipate three queries — what went in, approximately how many litres, and if your car has been turned over. Your responses determine all that happens next.

## Can petrol be taken from a diesel at the forecourt?

A good portion of this job gets completed at a forecourt, since that's where it often begins.

Still at Murco? Then that is usually where it happens. Station forecourts are normal for us, with the permission of the site.

At a garage, it is spotted with your motor never started, and nowhere else does it.

The few seconds between reading the receipt and reaching for the key determine how much requires cleaning. Everywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — your car was fired up and driven to get there, so fuel was pulled from the tank, through the filter then into the high-pressure pump. That means the fuel lines and the filter need rinsing as well as your tank. It's not a catastrophe, and we can still deal with it where the car sits.

The staff will usually happily move the car away from the petrol pump so the next motorist can get by. That's worth doing.

Moving it four spaces doesn't justify firing it.

Every start primes your fuel system and draws more of the mixture out of your tank and on to the pump — which is why a vehicle shuffled twice into a roomier space has silently turned into a harder job than one left just where it stopped. So where we can't work alongside your diesel Renault Clio, our engineers roll the car without firing it. None of that is fuss about a handful of seconds of running. Car parks like the one outside Tesco our technicians attend all the time, and your fuel is rarely the awkward part: that bay is. Motors either side, a trolley shelter behind, sometimes a height limit at the entrance settling if a technician reaches you at all. Tell us how penned in you are, and which way your car faces.

## Will our technicians serve your corner of Burbage?

Sketchley, Sketchley Old Village, The Crescent, Leicester Grange, Hinckley — every one of these on our journeys that take us across to Burbage too, a residential suburb.

There are dedicated pages for most towns around Leicestershire, and the ones listed above are just the immediate neighbours — so yours being left off that list tells you nothing whatsoever about whether our technicians come.

Phone and ask rather than guessing — borders especially, and anywhere a satnav can struggle with.

That map shows the ground this page covers.

Kerbside, forecourt, private drive, car park: the lot is ground we cover, and none of it asks the vehicle to come to us.

## Burbage: broken down wherever you stopped

Not everyone gets a sensible place to pull in.

Set off, then noticed? Finished up on the verge on Salem Road, or sat in some lay-by with your hazards on? That's a common call here. Not a rare one.

Stay with the car while it's sensible to sit inside, and out of the car when it isn't.

Never restart the engine to nurse it somewhere better — a diesel running on petrol will often oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling that blend further into your fuel system.

Our van heading to a difficult location is no problem for us, and it is much better for the vehicle than carrying on.

## Petrol in a diesel, and the motor has rolled

under a mile out of Burbage, your M69 is what matters now.

Lost power, a lumpy idle, smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, instead of a clean stop — and a misfuelled diesel will often get you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.

The next safe junction is the one to take. Turn off there, and leave the restarting alone.

It alters what our technicians bring, so say so when you call: on a longer run — anything close to the under 15 miles to the nearest city — assume the petrol has been through the fuel filter, your pump and your injectors.

Do not drive it home to buy yourself time. You already have it: nothing gets worse whilst the car sits, as a diesel Nissan Qashqai left outside Pughes Paddock is doing none of what it did on the way there. The pump has stopped turning.

## A little about Burbage

Burbage is a suburban area in Leicestershire, situated approximately 10.5 miles from Coventry and 87.7 miles from London. Burbage sits at an elevation of around 133 metres, characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock. Burbage is located near other local places such as Sketchley, Sketchley Old Village, and The Crescent, and has a population of around 6060 residents.

## Our visit around Burbage, step by step

- The answers shape the work, which is why our engineers ask before pricing: what went in, how much of that, and if your motor has run.

- Out goes the tainted mixture.

- Our technicians purge your fuel lines and clear your filter, and so what's left in your system isn't what created the problem.

- New diesel goes in, and then the fuel system gets bled.

- The motor is turned on and tested to confirm it runs properly on new diesel.

That has your car ready to pull away.

Everything is done where the car is, so it never has to be taken to a workshop, and when it has been noticed soon, permanent damage is very unusual.

Why so blunt about leaving the keys alone? Because the pump is ahead of the fuel injectors, and a wearing one sends whatever it sheds on with your fuel. Call us. Leave the Ford Focus near Burbage Methodist Church.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Burbage is a separate matter

AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — the engine remains off — whereas the problem beneath it's a separate one altogether.

Petrol does two things to diesel: weakens it, and removes the protection your fuel system relies on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with the diesel and you get rust instead, plus residue.

Both are ours. There's a separate Burbage page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

Hire car or company car? Ring them before you call us — some contracts want the hire firm to approve the work, and sorting that out first is a great deal faster than sorting it later on. Then ring us about the Peugeot 3008 near Burbage Millenium Hall, and don't worry that you cannot say how full your tank was. Almost nobody can, in a motor they picked up two days ago, and our engineers work it out there. The reason our engineers ask is that petrol in a diesel does its damage as a share: the same few litres in an almost empty tank is a far stronger mixture than in a full one. Petrol is rated on how well it withstands igniting under pressure, which is the opposite of what a diesel needs — so the stronger the mixture, the more it knocks, smokes and goes flat.

## Burbage prices for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

What changes the price is listed below, because this job is not one job and we cannot frankly put a single price on this page.

- This is the key one: whether your engine has been run, or driven.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, measured against how much that tank takes.

- Which got in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Access: the vehicle's position, and if working on it there's sensible for our van.

Tell us the vehicle, the amount and if it has run, and you will get a firm answer rather than a range.

If it's not urgent — the car is at home and going nowhere — works too.

A few streets, then it stopped. Throttle limp, idle uneven, and your diesel Mercedes E-Class is parked up by Burbage Congregational Church. Your engine is not failing — that sluggishness is fuel that won't build pressure. There is no light on the dash for it, and so cars like yours generally get driven a second time before somebody picks up the phone. Don't. Off, and ring us.

## Things we hear about petrol in diesel in Burbage

## I'm on a forecourt in Burbage. Can you drain it here?

A large part of this work happens there, so yes.

We attend Esso and the other forecourts nearby all the time, with the site's permission — tell us which one you're at when you call and we'll tell you if our technicians can work there.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Litres are not the yardstick. Proportion is, and much more than either, it counts whether anything has been run.

What determines how much work is required is if that mix has been drawn through the fuel system — since although five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different situation from five in a full one, either way that's the question.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? What now?

Turn off somewhere safe, and keep it that way after you stop.

It is recoverable much more commonly than drivers expect, even though driving is what takes the problem from the tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart it.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A drain and flush carried out properly is not an alteration and doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?

What petrol has weakened isn't replaced by two-stroke oil, which is an old workaround for a distinct issue. So no.

Petrol remains in that tank later on, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no respite from it.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — essential?

Wherever the car is, our engineers drain and clean it there, so a trip to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## You, and your vehicle, still together?

Turned off is how it stays.

If you have already driven the car, pull in somewhere safe, switch it off and keep it off.

This is recoverable from far more often than people expect, and a still, cold motor is the best place to be in.

Draining wrongly fuelled motors, Burbage and the rest of Leicestershire, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
