# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Burnt Oak?

With that tank still carrying the petrol and your engine not yet turned over, nearly every job needs only a drain, so keep your engine off. That result is decided in the minutes immediately after the fill-up, rather than by the amount that went in. Throughout Burnt Oak and the rest of Greater London, Petrol in Diesel drains the car and flushes it where it stands, whether by a roadside, on a private drive or at a forecourt.

We will explain what the following stage is. Ring us — this comes before all else.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do first

- As you drive, the pump and the fuel injectors wear. This is why you don't start the vehicle, and why you never believe it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel especially — the point motorists get wrong — is that it drives away fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor usually cannot run at all, which stops the person and stops the harm with them. This one lets you keep going.

- Diesel combusts, and before it ignites it protects — that high-pressure pump, its injectors. Petrol handles only the burning. So leave the ignition be as well: switching it on is frequently sufficient to prime the system, and priming moves petrol from your tank into just those components.

- That guidance supposes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It won't. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is removed; what you get is a larger tank of the same mix. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.

- A motor that hasn't moved is the easiest one to deal with, and so remain where you are if you reasonably can. Stopped on the verge on Gilbert Grove? Hazards on, and keep the car there. A tricky place works for us better than a started diesel.

- Find out where you are before calling. A postcode beginning HA8 0, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise our van circles instead of turning up.

- Dial 0333 366 0103. Anticipate three points — what got in, approximately how much, plus if the car has been turned over. Your replies shape all that happens next.

Do not run it home. Petrol-thinned diesel has gone through the high-pressure fuel pump in real quantity on the way in, and the drive back would roughly double that for nothing at all. Ring us — the platform is okay. There is no need to stand over the Skoda Octavia outside Mill Hill Broadway whilst the work gets done, and our team would far rather speak to you tonight than learn on Monday.

## On a forecourt: draining petrol from the diesel

A large chunk of this work is finished at the pump, as that is where it often kicks off.

If you're still on the forecourt at Shell, that's generally where the drain gets done — we operate on garage forecourts all the time, with the station's permission.

Before the engine has started — a garage is the one location this is spotted.

Fuel pulled out of that tank and through the filter, all the way to the high-pressure pump, is what happens when your engine is fired up and the vehicle is moved to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush covers the fuel filter and the fuel lines along with that tank. That's still not a calamity, and our engineers deal with it where the car is. What decides it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the receipt was checked.

The staff will normally offer to roll the vehicle out from the pump so the next motorist can get past. It is worth doing.

Shifting it four lengths doesn't justify firing the engine.

Tell us this much and we can work with it: a diesel Peugeot 308, some litres of unleaded in it, two miles or so, turned off at Food 4 Less now. Time elapsed is not the thing we need. Fuel sucked by the pump is.

## Burnt Oak and the towns next to it

Grahame Park, Colindale, Little Stanmore, Edgware, The Hale — each of them on the runs that take us over to Burnt Oak itself, a residential suburb.

Not on that list? That tells you nothing. The names above are simply the closest few, and most places in Greater London have a page of their own somewhere on the site.

Near the boundary, or somewhere the satnav can't find? Contact us and check rather than presuming.

This map shows the ground the page includes.

We work by the road, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks across all of it, and the vehicle never needs to travel to us.

A diesel pump meters fuel to demand, and a frantic morning run demands plenty — so three miles in the Audi A4 feels like nothing and is not. Twenty to nine by The Annunciation Catholic Infant School, running late, the receipt in your hand reading unleaded: hazards on, ignition off, phone us.

## Broken down at the kerbside in Burnt Oak

Not everyone finds a suitable place to pull over.

Hazards on at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge beside Nurse Close since you noticed after setting off — we take that call often enough that it's the ordinary kind.

Clear of the vehicle when it is not sensible to be inside, with it if it is.

Don't fire up the engine to nurse the vehicle somewhere better — a diesel running on petrol will frequently oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling that mix further into the fuel system.

We will take the van to a difficult location without any trouble, and for the car that's a lot better than pressing on.

## Already driven it? Petrol in a diesel after a couple of miles

This is where the local M1 comes into it — under a mile away from Burnt Oak.

A misfilled diesel will usually take you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong, and the signs when they arrive are generally a drop in power, an uneven idle and smoke instead of a tidy stop.

Do not start it to reposition. Pull off at the first safe exit and switch off.

It changes what we bring, so say so when you phone: on a longer run — anything near the under 10 miles to the nearest city — assume the petrol has been through the filter, your pump and the fuel injectors.

## Burnt Oak itself

Burnt Oak is a suburban area in northwest London, situated near the Welsh Harp reservoir and the River Brent. Burnt Oak sits at an elevation of around 53 metres, approximately 8.8 miles from central London. Burnt Oak is characterized by its predominantly terraced housing stock, with nearby neighbourhoods including Grahame Park and Colindale. Burnt Oak has a population of around 14,017 residents.

## Once our engineers arrive with you in Burnt Oak: what happens

- Three things get asked before any quote — your fuel that was put in, the amount, and if anything has been run since. Each answer changes the work.

- The tank is drained of everything.

- Fuel lines are flushed through and your filter cleared, leaving nothing in the system that created any of this.

- Clean diesel goes in, and then the fuel system gets primed.

- When it is turned on, we check it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

The car is then ready for you to drive away.

Our engineers do all of it wherever the vehicle has ended up, which means it never needs to go to a garage, and if it has been spotted early, it is very rare for there to be long-term damage.

Why we are firm about not driving on: the pump sits upstream of the injectors, so whatever a worn-out pump loses travels downstream with your fuel. Leave the Mercedes A-Class by Woodcroft Hall then phone us.

## Burnt Oak AdBlue removal is a different matter

The problem isn't the same, though the opening instruction is — don't start it — if what was put in was AdBlue rather than petrol.

Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and takes away the protection your fuel system relies on.

Corrosion and residue are what a diesel tank gets instead, as AdBlue is urea in water.

Often the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the details sits on its own Burnt Oak page. Both are ours to deal with.

New spots are where this happens most, and the reason is mechanical rather than slapdash: the narrower petrol nozzle slides into a modern diesel filler neck with practically no resistance at all. Fuelled up near Young Barnet Foundation without thinking, in a diesel Citroen C3 you have had for two days? Phone us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars usually get driven further before anybody realises, and miles is what settles how much petrol gets to the fuel injectors.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain around Burnt Oak?

One price wouldn't be honest here, as this is not one job. These are the things that change it:

- Has it been run or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- Which was put in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a van reach it and work there safely?

The vehicle, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back clear rather than as a range.

For the car at home that is going nowhere and is not time-critical, is fine too.

## Petrol in diesel queries from Burnt Oak drivers

## Fuel drains on a Burnt Oak petrol station forecourt

A large part of this work gets done there, so yes.

Our engineers attend Asda and the other forecourts locally regularly, with the site's permission — tell us which one you're at when you phone and we will tell you whether our engineers can work there.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Litres are not the yardstick. Ratio is, and far more than either, it matters if anything has been run.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different scenarios, definitely. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if the system has had that blend drawn through it.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and keep it off.

Driving takes the trouble along — out of your tank, into the pump and injectors. Drivers fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one really helpful thing left to you is not restarting it.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

No. Carried out correctly, clearing and flushing is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

What's likelier to start a dispute is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more good reason for your engine to stay off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

What petrol has diluted isn't replaced by two-stroke oil, which is an old fix for a separate fault. So no.

Your tank still has petrol in it later, and your pump still has to put up with it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

There is no need to bring it to a main dealer, as we drain and clean the car wherever it is.

## Is your vehicle still with you?

Turned off is the way the car remains.

If you have already driven the vehicle, stop somewhere sensible, turn it off and keep it off.

This is recoverable from far more commonly than motorists assume, and a still, cold motor is the best place to be in.
