# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Caerwys?

If you have not turned on the motor yet, don't. A fuel drain and nothing more is nearly always what a motor needs while the petrol is still sitting in the tank and the motor has not yet turned over, which is why it's the coming few minutes that count, not how much went in. Petrol in Diesel comes to the vehicle wherever it has ended up in Caerwys or the remainder of Flintshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a private drive, and drains and cleans it there.

A single ring to us will be sufficient: our team will explain what follows after this. Do this first.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do now

- Do not fire it up — and do not trust it when it does start. Here is the thing drivers get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol motor filled with diesel usually just will not run, so the driver stops and the wear ends with them. A diesel fed petrol usually starts, ticks over and pulls away perfectly well for a few miles. It isn't fine. It is grinding the fuel system as you drive.

- Diesel burns, and before it burns it greases — your injection pump, its injectors. Petrol handles only the burning. So leave your ignition off also: switching it on is often enough to prime the system, and priming pulls petrol from that tank into exactly those parts.

- Never water down it. Diesel tipped on top gets rid of nothing, and so all you get is more of what was already there, because percentage is not how a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The type makes no difference.

- Stay still if it is wise to. Hazards on, motor off, keep the car. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on North Street, anywhere — an odd spot for us beats a started diesel, and nothing is quicker for us to handle than a motor that never shifted.

- Before you dial, gather your location. Anything nearest to you with a label on it, plus a postcode starting CH7 5 — that is what settles whether our van shows up or circles.

- Call 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three points — what went in, about how many litres, and whether the car has been run. The responses decide everything that follows.

Never take it home. The commute has already put a real load of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of that Renault Megane, and the drive back would about double it for no reason at all. Call us from the platform if that is simpler. Our engineers do not need you standing over your car at Flint whilst our technicians get it done, and our team would very much rather talk to you tonight than find out on Monday.

## At the forecourt: draining petrol from your diesel

Much of the job starts at the pump, which means a big part of it gets completed at one.

Still at BP? Then that is usually where it happens. Petrol station forecourts are routine for us, with the permission of the station.

Nowhere other than a forecourt can the mistake be caught with your motor still untouched.

The few seconds between reading the till receipt and reaching for your key decide how much needs flushing. Anywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was fired up and driven to get there, so fuel was pulled from that tank, through the filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump. That means the lines and the fuel filter need flushing as well as the tank. It is not a catastrophe, and our engineers can still put it right where the vehicle stands.

Roll it out of the way if the staff offer, and they normally will. The next driver gets by the petrol pump, and that is worth doing.

Starting the car just for four car lengths? No.

## Places our team reach in Caerwys

Croes-wian, Afon-wen, Pant, Ddol, Mynydd-llan — each of these on our trips that carry us over to Caerwys too, a riverside town.

If yours is not on this list it does not mean we do not come — there are dedicated pages for nearly all places around Flintshire, and the ones mentioned above are just the closest neighbours.

Phone to check instead of guessing — boundaries above all, and anywhere your satnav can struggle with.

See the map for the patch included on this page.

Roadside, forecourt, drive, car park: the lot is territory our engineers work on, and none of that needs the vehicle to travel to us.

You will be urged to move the vehicle out of that gateway and fix it later. Please don't. On the zig-zags outside the local primary school, a wrongly fuelled Nissan Qashqai running on diesel is in the way, and that's all it is. Fire it up three more times being helpful and you have turned a tank into a fuel system: every start primes the fuel lines, every prime drags more petrol beyond the fuel filter toward your pump. Let them complain. Phone.

## Stranded by the roadside in Caerwys

Some drivers have no suitable spot to pull over at all.

Hazards flashing at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge beside South Street as you realised after setting off — we take that call often enough that it is the usual kind.

Whether you remain beside the vehicle or stand clear of it depends on if staying in it is sensible.

Never fire it up to get to a safer place. It will go — a diesel on petrol usually obliges — and each mile of obliging pulls the mixture deeper into the fuel system.

However inconvenient the location, it's no problem for us to come to it, and that is a lot better for the car than pressing on.

## Petrol in a diesel, but your car has moved

Here is where the local M53 comes in — under 15 miles from Caerwys.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will usually do both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is seldom a clean stop. Power drains away, your idle gets rough, and there may be smoke.

Don't start it to move it. Get off at the first safe junction and switch off.

On a longer run — anything approaching the under 10 miles to the nearest city — take it the contamination has been through the fuel filter, your pump and the injectors, and mention it when you ring. It alters what we bring.

Don't drive it home to buy yourself time. You already have it: nothing gets worse while the vehicle waits, as a diesel Audi A6 parked at Caerwys Golf Club is doing none of what it did on the way there. Your pump has stopped turning.

## All about Caerwys

Caerwys is a small town in Flintshire, situated on the banks of a river in northeastern Wales. Caerwys sits at an elevation of 181 metres, surrounded by rolling countryside and nearby villages such as Croes-wian and Afon-wen. Caerwys has a population of around 1118 people, predominantly living in detached houses. Caerwys is located near the city of St Asaph, approximately 5.8 miles away.

## When our technicians reach you in Caerwys: what follows

- Our technicians check what went in, how much, and if your engine has run. The responses shape the work, which is why our engineers ask before quoting.

- The tainted mixture is drawn out of the tank.

- Fuel lines are rinsed through and your filter cleared, leaving nothing in the fuel system that started any of this.

- We pour fresh diesel in and bleed the fuel system.

- Our engineers start it and make sure it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

After that it's ready to drive away.

All of this is done where the vehicle is, so it never needs to go to a garage, and when it has been noticed early, lasting damage is very rare.

Calling from close to Caerwys Town Hall? Three things help us. The filler — which side of the vehicle it is on. Room for a van next to you, without the road being blocked. And whether anything has run since the fill-up. The location itself hardly matters: on-street is where we work most, and we would much rather have a narrow spot than a motor a person has driven somewhere simpler. Then it's a drain for the Ford Kuga, a filter change where there's one worth changing, lines purged, fresh fuel put round the entire system. By now the worst of that is in the fuel lines and not the tank.

## Caerwys AdBlue removal is a different problem

If what got in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the first step is the same — don't fire it up — yet the problem is not.

Petrol does two things to diesel: thins it, and takes away the lubrication the system depends on.

Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes corrosion and deposits.

Both are ours. There is a separate Caerwys page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

A motor you collected two days ago gets driven further before anyone spots anything, which is the hire and courtesy fault in one sentence — and how far it went is what determines the quantity of petrol arriving at your injectors. Nothing careless about the mistake itself: a current diesel filler neck accepts the narrower petrol nozzle with practically no resistance, so strange locations see most of these. Ring us from wherever you are, near St Michael's or not, and we'll head to the Citroen C3.

## Caerwys pricing for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

One price would not be honest here, as this is not one job. These are the things that shift it:

- This is the big one: whether the motor has been run, or driven.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, against how much the tank can hold.

- Which was put in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there's sensible for a van.

Tell us the vehicle, the quantity and if it has run, and you'll get a straight answer rather than a range.

For your car at home that's going nowhere and isn't pressing, works too.

## Questions we hear about petrol in diesel around Caerwys

## I'm on a forecourt around Caerwys. Can you drain it on the spot?

Yes — forecourts are where a fair share of this gets done.

Permission from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like Texaco is somewhere we are often enough, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the call and you'll hear if working there is possible.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Whether your engine has run matters far more, though the ratio counts too, instead of the litres.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a separate case from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that determines how much work is required is whether that blend has been drawn through the system.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the vehicle

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most useful thing available to you now. Driving does move the issue out of the tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it remains recoverable a lot more regularly than drivers assume.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

A drain then flush carried out properly isn't a modification and does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

What's likelier to start an argument is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for the motor to stay off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a distinct fault and it doesn't put back what petrol has weakened.

Your pump still has to live with it, since your tank still has petrol in it afterwards.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — essential?

Wherever the vehicle is, we drain and clean it there, so a trip to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## Is the car still with you?

Turned off is how it remains.

Already driven it? Then pull over somewhere safe, switch off, then let it remain that way.

Cold, parked, going nowhere: that's the best place to be in. People fear this much more than they need to.

Emptying misfuelled cars, Caerwys and the rest of Flintshire, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
