# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Clarborough? Don't Start It

If you have not started the motor yet, don't. A fuel drain and nothing more is almost always what a car needs while the petrol is still in that tank and the motor has not yet run, which is why it's the next few minutes that count, not how much went in. Petrol in Diesel comes to the car wherever it has ended up in Clarborough or the rest of Nottinghamshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway, and drains and cleans it there.

Our technicians shall show you what the next part will be. Call us — this happens ahead of all else.

## What to do first about petrol in a diesel

- Don't crank it — and do not believe it if it starts. Here is the bit drivers have wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol motor filled with diesel typically just won't run, and so the person stops and the harm ends with them. A diesel filled with petrol typically starts, ticks over and pulls away quite happily for several miles. It isn't all right. It is eating into your fuel system whenever you drive.

- Leave your ignition be too. Diesel has two tasks: it burns, and before it ignites it lubricates your injection pump and the injectors. Petrol manages the first and not the second. Turning the car's ignition on is often sufficient to prime the system, which carries the petrol out of that tank then into exactly those components.

- Do not weaken it. Diesel put on top gets rid of nothing, and so all you have is more of what was already there, since percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system accepts petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The octane makes no difference.

- Stay where you are if you sensibly can. A car that has not moved is the easiest one to handle, and we would much rather come to an odd location than have it started. If you're parked on the verge on Millers Court, turn your hazards on and keep the car there.

- Know where you are before calling. A postcode starting DN22 9, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the van circles instead of turning up.

- Dial 0333 366 0103. Let us know what got in, approximately how much, and if the engine has started. Those three details decide the full call-out.

## Can petrol be pumped from a diesel on the forecourt?

Forecourts are where the work often starts, and where a good chunk of that finishes.

Still at Morrisons? Then that is normally where it gets done. Garage forecourts are routine for us, with the permission of the station.

Nowhere except the forecourt can the mistake be caught with the engine still unstarted.

Everywhere else — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — your car was fired up and driven to get there, which means fuel was drawn from that tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure pump. That is not a catastrophe, and we can still deal with it where it stands. It does mean your lines and your filter need cleaning as well as your tank, and that's settled by the few seconds between checking the receipt and going for your key.

Staff will generally help out pushing it away from the pump, which lets the next motorist get past. Accept the help.

Rolling it four spaces does not merit firing the engine.

Diesel Renault Megane. Some litres of unleaded. Done a couple of miles. Turned off now, outside Morrisons. That's the call we hope for, because the real question underneath it is about quantity through the pump not hours on the clock.

## Parts our vans reach in Clarborough

Clarborough is a village, so we are out to it and to anywhere around it on those same rounds: Hayton, Welham, Bolham, Little Gringley and Tiln.

If yours is not on that list it doesn't mean we don't come — there are pages for nearly all locations in Nottinghamshire, and the ones named above are simply the nearest neighbours.

Presuming is the thing to skip, above all on a boundary or anywhere a satnav fails. Contact us to ask.

Use this map for the patch covered here.

Your vehicle never needs to move to us. We work throughout every bit of that — roadside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

Twenty to nine. At the gates of Clarborough Primary School. Late already, and your receipt in your hand reads unleaded. Put the hazard lights on, leave your motor alone, then phone us. You could think three miles is nothing, in the Skoda Octavia or anything else — except that fuel is delivered on demand, and a drive taken in a rush asks for a great deal of that.

## Stranded at the kerbside anywhere in Clarborough?

Not everyone gets the chance to stop somewhere safe.

Hazards flashing at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge beside Hillview Crescent since you noticed after setting off — our engineers take that call regularly enough that it is the normal kind.

Whether you remain by your car or keep away from it rests on whether sitting there is wise.

Don't fire it up to reach a better location. It will go — a diesel on petrol normally obliges — and each mile of obliging drags the blend deeper into the fuel system.

We'll send the van to an awkward place without any fuss, and for the vehicle that's far better than carrying on.

A diesel Peugeot 308 in the car park outside King's Arms with a tank of petrol in it is a straightforward job, right up until somebody drives it home. Leave it overnight and phone us next morning. Nothing worsens while it sits. What we will ask is whether that run there was short and chilly, since that's where petrol is least able to burn correctly — and anything that won't burn can work past the piston rings and into the oil.

## Already driven it? Petrol in a diesel after a couple of miles

The local Doncaster By-Pass is the one which counts now, and it runs under 10 miles from Clarborough.

It will frequently take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is some smoke, an uneven idle and power draining away — not a neat stop. Misfuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.

Do not restart it to reposition. Get off at the next safe exit then turn off.

It affects what our technicians bring, and so say so when you phone: on a longer trip — anything near the under 25 miles to the closest city — assume the petrol has been through your filter, the pump and the injectors.

## Where's Clarborough?

Clarborough is a small village in Nottinghamshire, situated on the banks of the River Idle. Clarborough has a low elevation of around 22 metres, and its riverside setting influences the local landscape. Clarborough is located near several other villages, including Hayton, Welham, and Bolham, and is around 15 miles from the city of Doncaster. Clarborough is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock.

## What we do when our engineers reach you in Clarborough

- The responses alter the work, which is why our engineers ask before pricing: what was put in, how much of it, and whether the engine has run.

- The polluted fuel is drawn out of your tank.

- We purge the fuel lines and clean the fuel filter, and so what is remaining in the fuel system is not what started the issue.

- We put fresh diesel in and bleed the system.

- Once it is turned on, our engineers confirm it runs smoothly on fresh diesel.

The car is then ready for you to pull away.

Long-term damage is very unusual when it has been spotted soon, and because all of this is done where your car is, it never needs to be taken to a garage.

Off the forecourt, receipt read, a few hundred yards, left by Clarborough Village Hall. For a diesel BMW 5 Series whose engine has turned, that's about the best version there is. Ring us, then let it stand with the ignition alone. Short helps, really — but a start is a start and a drive is a drive, and the filter has had weakened fuel through it, and so has the pump. Which is why the fuel lines get rinsed and not just your tank emptied.

## Clarborough AdBlue removal is a different problem

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the opening instruction is unchanged — your motor remains off — whereas this problem under it is a separate one altogether.

Thinned diesel, and no lubrication left for the fuel system that relies on it. That's petrol.

AdBlue is urea in water, and in a diesel tank it brings rust and deposits instead.

AdBlue removal in Clarborough has a page of its own with the details on it, including why it is usually the more serious of the two. Our technicians deal with both.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain costs in Clarborough

What shifts the figure is listed below, as this job isn't one job and we can't honestly put a single number on this page.

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, measured against how much the tank takes.

- The type of liquid in the tank, petrol or AdBlue.

- Where the vehicle is, and whether our van can safely get to and work on it.

Tell us the car, the quantity and if it has run, and you'll get a straight answer rather than a range.

If it isn't pressing — the car is at home and going nowhere — works too.

Repaired and starting aren't the same thing, and the difference is your system: we flush it, and take the fuel filter off where there's a workable one. Compare that with the sure of themselves advice you will get — drain the car, refill with new diesel. Half right. Do exactly that to a diesel Audi A6 near St John the Baptist and it will start, which is precisely why the suggestion sounds sensible. Then the motor draws the petrol left behind in the fuel filter, and in the feed lines, straight back through the pump, as draining a tank does nothing whatever about fuel that has already left it. Phone us instead.

## Clarborough drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Clarborough?

A big portion of this work gets done there, so yes.

Often, provided the site agrees: Shell, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that location is something our engineers answer on the spot.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Whether the motor has run counts a lot more, though the ratio matters too, instead of the litres.

What decides how much work is needed is whether that mixture has been drawn through the system — because though five litres in an almost empty tank is a distinct matter from five in a full one, either way that's the query.

## I drove the car after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and keep it off.

Driving shifts the problem along — out of your tank, into the pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly valuable thing left to you is not restarting it.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain and flush done to a correct standard, which is no alteration at all.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one, which is another good reason to leave the vehicle turned off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

What petrol has diluted is not replaced by two-stroke oil, which is an old workaround for a separate issue. So no.

Petrol stays in that tank later, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

No. Our technicians drain and flush the car wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a main dealer.

## Still with your car?

Switched off is how it remains.

Turn it off somewhere sensible and keep it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and still, a vehicle is in the best position available — and drivers fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Nottinghamshire and around Clarborough: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
