# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Craigie?

With your tank still carrying the fuel and your engine not yet started, almost every job requires only a drain, so keep the motor off. That result is decided in the minutes right after filling up, rather than by the amount that went in. Across Craigie and the rest of South Ayrshire, Petrol in Diesel drains the vehicle and flushes it where it is, whether at a roadside, on a private drive or at a forecourt.

A single call to us is plenty: our team can tell you what comes from here. Make this straight away.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, step by step

- Do not crank it — and don't trust it if it does start. That is the bit most people get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol engine given diesel normally just can't run, so the motorist stops and the harm halts with them. A diesel filled with petrol typically starts, idles and moves off just fine for several miles. It's not fine. It is eating into the fuel system while you drive.

- Leave the ignition off too. Diesel performs two tasks: it burns, and before it combusts it greases that injection pump and those injectors. Petrol manages the first but not the second. Turning the ignition on is often enough to prime your system, which pulls that petrol out of the tank then into precisely those components.

- Do not put diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system will not tolerate petrol by percentage the way that advice assumes, and topping up gets rid of nothing — it simply gives you a fuller tank of the same mix. The grade makes no difference either: super unleaded is just petrol.

- A motor that has never shifted is the simplest one to deal with, so wait where you are if you sensibly can. Pulled up on the verge on Beech Grove? Hazards on, then keep the car there. An awkward location works for us better than a started motor.

- Before you call, get your whereabouts. Anything nearest to you with a label on it, plus a postcode starting KA8 0 — that's what determines whether the van shows up or circles.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three things — what went in, roughly how many litres, plus whether the car has been turned over. Your answers decide everything that happens next.

Quarter past eight. A fast fill on the trip in. At about eleven it dawns on you, and by then your diesel Renault Megane has waited at Ayr for three hours. Call us then keep it where it sits. What counts is the drive in, since diesel both burns and — before that — protects your pump and the injectors, but petrol only ever burns. Those few miles ran your pump on a liquid robbed of a great deal of its protection, and no amount of sitting in a car park adds any of that back. Hence the question about distance instead of hours sitting, and hence the instruction to leave your keys where they are till our technicians get there.

## Removing petrol from the diesel at a forecourt

Most of the job starts at a forecourt, which means a big part of it ends up completed there.

The drain usually gets done there and then. Still on the forecourt at Tesco? Given the station's consent, that's a spot we work, and routinely.

At a forecourt, the mistake gets halted with your engine never fired, and no place else does it.

Everywhere else — a car park, a private drive, a lay-by — the car was switched on and driven to get there, which means fuel was sucked from your tank, through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump. That is not a catastrophe, and we can still deal with it where it sits. It does mean the lines and your filter need cleaning as well as your tank, and that is determined by the few seconds between reading your receipt and going for the key.

Attendants will normally help out pushing it clear of the pump, which lets the next driver get by. Welcome the assistance.

Firing the car just for four car lengths? Don't.

We're in car parks like the one outside Tesco Extra all the time, and it's rarely your fuel that complicates them. It is that bay. Motors both sides. Trolleys stacked up behind. Sometimes a height bar at the way in, which settles if our van can reach you at all. So say how hemmed in you are when you phone, and which way the vehicle is pointing. If there is no clearance to work next to that Volkswagen Passat, we shift it without the motor. That's not fussiness over a couple of seconds: starts prime things, fuel comes out of that tank on to your pump, and a car moved twice for a better space is quietly a bigger job than one nobody touched.

## Parts we cover near Craigie

Holmston, Lochside, Braehead, Forehill, Masonhill — all of these on our journeys that take us across to Craigie as well, a residential suburb.

Not on the list? It tells you nothing. The names above are only the closest few, and most towns in South Ayrshire have a page of their own somewhere on this site.

Assuming is the mistake to resist, above all on the boundary or somewhere your satnav struggles. Contact us to ask.

See our map for the patch covered here.

Your vehicle doesn't need to travel to us. We operate over every bit of it — kerbside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

Each restart primes your lines and drags more petrol through your filter and into the pump. So a misfilled diesel Skoda Octavia on the zig-zags outside the local primary school is an inconvenience, whereas the same car fired up three more times to be helpful is a fuel system instead of a tank. Someone will tell you to shift the vehicle out of the gateway and sort it out later. Please don't. Leave it, let everyone complain, then ring us.

## Craigie: stranded where you parked

Some drivers get no safe place to stop at all.

A routine call for us instead of a rare one: noticed after setting off, finished up by the verge beside Blackhouse Place or at a lay-by with the hazards on.

Clear of the car while it isn't safe to wait there, with it when it is.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that blend further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why the engine doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier.

We'll take the van to an inconvenient location without any fuss, and for the vehicle that's a lot better than pressing on.

## Already run it? Petrol in a diesel over a few miles

This is where your M77 counts, under 15 miles out of Craigie.

A drop in power, an uneven idle, some smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, rather than a tidy stop — and a misfuelled diesel will usually take you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.

Take the next exit that is sensible, stop there, and never restart the car to move it.

Long drive? Anything approaching the under 50 miles to the nearest city and you should suppose the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of that got to by the petrol. Say that on the phone, since it changes what goes in our van.

## About Craigie

Craigie is a coastal suburban area in South Ayrshire, situated near the towns of Ayr and Prestwick, with Holmston, Lochside, and Braehead nearby. Craigie has a population of around 1796 people and features predominantly semi-detached housing. Craigie is located at a relatively low elevation of 22 metres above sea level, close to the coast. Craigie is also within commuting distance of Glasgow, which is approximately 31 miles away.

## The call-out in Craigie, step by step

- Three things get checked before any quote — your fuel that went in, the amount, and whether anything has been run since. Each answer alters the work.

- Our engineers empty the tank of the tainted mixture.

- Our engineers purge your fuel lines and clear your filter, and so what's left in your system isn't what created the issue.

- Clean diesel goes in, and then the fuel system gets primed.

- The engine is turned on and tested to confirm it runs smoothly on new diesel.

Your car is then ready for you to pull away.

Long-term damage is very unusual when it has been spotted soon, and as all of it is done where the car is, it never has to go to a workshop.

Pulled off the forecourt, read the till receipt, and left the diesel Dacia Duster up near Ayr Racecourse a few hundred yards later? That's about as well as this goes once your engine has turned. Ring us then leave the vehicle off. The short distance really assists, but it was still a start and a drive, so weakened fuel has got to your filter and your pump — which is why our engineers purge the fuel lines rather than only draining your tank.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank by mistake, in Craigie?

If what was put in was AdBlue rather than petrol, the opening rule is the same — do not start it — but the issue is not.

The protection a fuel system relies on gets stripped away by petrol, which weakens your diesel.

Corrosion and deposits are what a diesel tank gets instead, since AdBlue is urea in water.

Usually the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the details lives on its own Craigie page. Both are ours to handle.

## Craigie prices for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

Our technicians cannot put one number on this page honestly, since the job isn't one job. What moves it:

- Whether the motor has been started or driven. This is the main one.

- Wrong fuel in, against what the tank holds — that proportion.

- Whether it's petrol or AdBlue.

- Whether our van can sensibly reach your car and work on it, which depends on where the car is.

The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm and not as a range.

Car at home, going nowhere, nothing pressing about it — is fine for that.

That softness is the fuel failing to build pressure fully, not your engine giving up — and with no dashboard light for it, vehicles in that position generally get driven a second time before somebody phones. Don't. A couple of streets is all it got: throttle gone dead, idle turned ragged, and a diesel BMW 5 Series now sitting close to COILA (2008). Switch the car off and call us.

## Petrol in diesel: frequent questions in Craigie

## I am on a forecourt around Craigie. Can you drain it here?

Plenty of what we do gets done nowhere else. So yes.

Permission from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like another forecourt nearby is somewhere we're regularly, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the call and you'll hear if working there's possible.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

It depends on the ratio instead of the litres, and much more on whether your engine has run.

Five litres into an almost dry tank is not five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that mix been sucked right through, or has it not?

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the car

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does move the issue out of that tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays salvageable a lot more regularly than people expect.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

No. Carried out properly, emptying and purging is no alteration at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause a disagreement with one.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

What petrol has weakened isn't put back by two-stroke oil, which is an old workaround for a distinct problem. So no.

Later on? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

There is no need to bring it to a dealership, since we drain and clean your car wherever it is.

## You, and your vehicle, still together?

Never switch your engine back on.

Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, switch off, and no restarting the vehicle afterwards.

A stationary, cold motor is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from a lot more regularly than motorists fear.

At the roadside, on the forecourt or at home — call-out fuel draining around Craigie and across South Ayrshire.
