# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Crosby: What Happens Now

Stop, then leave your engine off — not on, and not for a second to move the car.

Cleared and purged, just where it is: that is normally all an unrun diesel with petrol in it needs. Whether it remains that simple rests on the minutes ahead far more than on everything else.

Wherever you are in Crosby, this is how things go from now.

## Engine off: minute one with petrol in a diesel

In this sequence, all before everything else:

- Pull your keys out. Even your ignition by itself can prime the fuel system, drawing petrol out of your tank to precisely the parts it damages, and so keep the vehicle off entirely.

- Topping up with diesel seems like it thins the issue. It doesn't: nothing gets out, and the tank simply holds more of the same.

- Hazards on. If you're at all close to moving traffic, make the car easy to see before you do anything else.

- The staff will usually help you push it away from the pump. Let them, then roll it by hand — not on the motor, even for a few yards.

- Hold on to the receipt. It says which fuel got in and about how much, which is the first thing we'll ask.

Noticed on the move? Get off at the next exit if you're on the A1077(M), under 3 miles from Crosby, and pull over somewhere safe — not at the services further on. Stage one comes after that.

## Crosby fuel drain: has your motor run yet, or not?

From this point on, everything comes down to a single answer.

If your engine has not run at all:

- The petrol remains in the tank, and only there.

- Where the vehicle sits is usually where this work is done: a drain, then a flush.

- Being here is as good as it gets — which is the whole point of step one.

If it's been started, even for a moment:

- Some petrol has left that tank already, gone through the filter, and got into the lines.

- The high-pressure fuel pump as well as your injectors see it too on a bigger run.

- The farther it went, the bigger this job — the lines, the fuel filter, and now and then more besides.

The reason the line falls there: diesel protects your high-pressure pump as well as the fuel injectors as it passes through them, and petrol doesn't.

In that tank, left alone, petrol does no harm.

Pump the petrol, though, and it wears the very parts doing the moving.

## Calling about petrol in a diesel from Crosby: what to have ready

A little preparation is the difference between a technician that finds you and a technician that circles.

- Your location: a postcode beginning DN15 7 works best.

- Wherever you have parked, the road's name is useful — whether that is Buckingham Avenue or somewhere else — and so does the name of a car park.

- Or the landmark. A car park is easier to find by what it serves, like the one at Sainsbury's.

- That it's a diesel, plus the make and model of the vehicle.

- What was put in. Petrol, or AdBlue. AdBlue is a different job with its own page for Crosby, so say which.

- The amount: the receipt's litres, or otherwise how long you had the nozzle in.

- The mileage it covered, and how heavily, if it has run at all.

- The owner may have to approve this work under some hire and company agreements — so it is faster to settle whose motor it is before we get there.

Next, 0333 366 0103. Not time-critical, your car parked at home with nowhere to be? Then will do too.

## Crosby fuel drain on its way? While you wait

The wait is where well-intended help does the damage. Hold to these.

- Wait with the vehicle if it's safe where it is — but if it has stopped somewhere unsafe, you come first: away from the traffic, waiting apart from it.

- A helpful passer-by does not start it. Nor does anybody wanting to check it still does the trick, or moving it a few yards.

- Something from your boot, oil meant for two-strokes or injector cleaner: no additive lifts that petrol.

- A home-made drain misses your fuel that has already gone beyond the tank, and siphoning petrol by the road is hazardous besides.

- Even your radio or the windows aren't worth switching your ignition on for.

## When our van arrives: your fuel drain, step by step

- Three queries. What went in, how much, and if it's run. Those answers decide this job, which is why the price comes after them and not before.

- Emptying it is how that mixture gets taken out of that tank.

- Purging the lines follows, because a motor that ran has petrol past your tank, inside your lines themselves.

- Where your car has a usable filter, it is changed; if not, cleared.

- Clean diesel in, and the fuel system primed.

- Our engineers fire it up only after clean diesel has gone in and primed the system, then make sure that it is running smoothly.

Until it runs on fresh diesel, we stay with it.

Long-term damage is very rare if it has been spotted early, so the vehicle can go straight back to normal use.

## After your fuel drain is done: driving in Crosby once more

- Drive normally. There is nothing special to do once it has been started on clean fuel.

- Give the first miles your attention. Smoke appearing, a warning light coming on, the idle going lumpy or the throttle hesitating: pull over then call us back.

- Hold on to the documents. A hire firm, a fleet manager or an insurer may ask what was done.

- The handle's colour isn't the guide to go by next time — the label on the pump is.

## About Crosby itself

## Crosby and nearby: fuel drains across the area

Petrol in diesel call-outs around Crosby and in Scunthorpe, Berkeley or Frodingham all go to the same vans, which reach most of Lincolnshire too.

Ring and ask instead of guessing if you are somewhere hard to explain or near a border.

## Ring, and leave it off — petrol in a diesel in Lincolnshire

Engine off. Keys out. Receipt in your pocket. That is the whole of stage one, and Petrol in Diesel carries on from there — at the roadside, on the forecourt or on your driveway.
