# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Dalfaber

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a private drive, throughout Dalfaber and the remainder of Highland. The first thing to do is not to start the engine. While your engine has not yet run and the fuel is still in your tank, a drain is almost always all it requires, and the following few minutes determine that, not how much got in.

Contact us before anything else starts, so you will learn what follows from there.

## What to do now about petrol in a diesel

- Don't start the car. Turned on all the same? Then do not trust it. Diesel in a petrol vehicle generally won't run, and so the person stops and the harm stops with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It moves off happily, for a few miles. Motorists get that backwards. It is not okay — that fuel system is wearing down every mile you drive.

- Diesel burns, and before it burns it greases — the high-pressure fuel pump, its injectors. Petrol does only the burning. So leave the ignition alone as well: turning it on is often enough to prime your system, and priming carries petrol from that tank into precisely those parts.

- That guidance presumes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It will not. Pour diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you get is a fuller tank of the same mixture. And no, the type makes no difference — super unleaded is just petrol.

- We would sooner travel to an awkward location than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay still. Nothing is quicker to deal with than a motor that has never moved. On the verge on Farm Road, that means hazards on then keep the vehicle.

- Before you call, get your position. Anything closest to you with a label on it, plus a postcode that starts PH22 1 — that is what decides whether the van turns up or circles.

- Ring 0333 366 0103. Expect three things — what was put in, approximately how many litres, and if the engine has been started. Those responses shape everything that follows.

Don't take it home. The commute has already put a real load of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of your Renault Clio, and the journey back would more or less double it for no reason at all. Phone us from the platform if that is simpler. Our technicians don't need you standing over the vehicle at Aviemore while our technicians get on, and we'd very much rather speak to you tonight than find out on Monday.

## Draining petrol from your diesel on a forecourt

The work begins at the pump, mostly. Quite often the job finishes at one too.

If you are still on the forecourt at BP, that is typically where the drain gets done — we work on garage forecourts regularly, with the station's consent.

The forecourt is the one location it is caught before the motor has fired.

Fuel drawn out of your tank and through your filter, right to your high-pressure pump, is what occurs when your engine is fired up and the car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes your filter and the lines as well as the tank. That's still not a catastrophe, and our engineers deal with it where the vehicle is. What determines it is whether the ignition was turned in the seconds after your receipt was checked.

Clear of the petrol pump, the next customer can get by — so yes, let the attendants help you roll it. Very much worth doing.

Shifting the car four lengths doesn't warrant firing the engine.

## Parts we reach in Dalfaber

Aviemore, Granish, Dell, Inverdruie, Coylumbridge — each of those on our trips that bring us out to Dalfaber itself, a small village.

Not on the list? That means nothing. The names above are just the nearest few, and most places in Highland have a page of their own somewhere on the site.

Guessing is the habit to skip, above all on the border or somewhere a satnav gets lost. Phone and enquire.

The area the page spans sits on the map.

We operate by the road, at forecourts, on driveways and in car parks across all of it, and the vehicle never needs to move to us.

## Roadside breakdowns around Dalfaber

Some people find no safe spot to pull in whatsoever.

A normal call for us instead of a rare one: noticed after setting off, landed by the verge on Dalfaber Drive or at a lay-by with the hazard lights going.

Whether you stay beside your car or move away from it rests on if staying there feels safe.

It will often oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that is the catch: start it up to reach somewhere handier and that mix goes further into your fuel system with every mile driven.

Carrying on does the vehicle far more harm than a van driving out to an inconvenient place, and that is no trouble for us.

You set off at the end, once our technicians have fired it up and made sure it runs properly on new diesel, with the fuel system bled. Before that, in the car park outside Balavoulin, the tainted fuel comes out of your tank, your lines get flushed and the fuel filter comes off where your Dacia Duster has a serviceable one. It all starts with three questions when our engineers reach your car: what got in, how much of it, and whether it has been started since.

## Driven it already? Stop, then check this

This is where the local M90 comes into it — over 50 miles from Dalfaber.

A drop in power, a rough idle, smoke: those are the symptoms when they arrive, instead of a tidy stop — and a misfuelled diesel will frequently take you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.

Don't start it to move it. Come off at the first safe exit and turn off.

Long trip? Anything near the under 25 miles to the closest city and you should suppose the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of that reached by the mixture. Say that on the phone, because it changes what goes in the van.

None of it is your engine failing. That is the bit worth hearing, and it's why the usual Spey Valley 9-hole Academy Golf Course call ends better than it sounds: a diesel Peugeot 3008 drives out there without a murmur, comes back with the power gone, the idle lumpy and possibly a little smoke, and the cause is your fuel no longer behaving like diesel. Diesel has to be thick enough to seal the tightly fitted components it flows through; petrol weakens it; and a diesel injection system is hydraulic as much as chemical, needing the fuel to hold pressure instead of only to burn. So pressure that should build and stay built bleeds past clearances, delivery turns up poorer and later and less even than designed, and all of that stops once the fuel is put right.

## Dalfaber itself

Dalfaber is a locality situated on the riverside in the Scottish Highlands, with an elevation of 215 metres and a population of around 631 people. Dalfaber is located near the city of Inverness, approximately 24.8 miles away, and is close to other nearby places such as Aviemore, Granish, and Dell. Dalfaber has a range of semi-detached housing, reflecting its development as a residential area. Dalfaber is also relatively distant from major cities like London, being around 420.2 miles away.

## Our job in Dalfaber, step by step

- Our engineers find out what was put in, how much, and if the motor has run. The responses shape the work, which is why we ask before quoting.

- We empty the tank of the contaminated mixture.

- Lines purged, filter cleaned. Whatever remains after that is not the thing that started the trouble.

- Our engineers put fresh diesel in and bleed the system.

- It's run with clean diesel in it, and we check that it is running smoothly.

From that point, you are ready to drive away.

Permanent damage is very rare when it has been spotted early, and because all of it is done where your car is, it never has to go to a workshop.

Leave the BMW 1 Series near Cairngorm Brewery then ring us. We're firm about not driving on as a wearing pump sheds, and what it gives off moves downstream with your fuel to the fuel injectors further along.

## Dalfaber AdBlue removal is a separate matter

The issue is not the same, though the opening step is — don't start it — if what got in was AdBlue rather than petrol.

Petrol dilutes your diesel and strips the lubrication your fuel system depends on.

Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that leads to rust and build-up.

Both are ours. There is a separate Dalfaber page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

A motor you collected two days ago gets driven further before anyone sees anything, which is the hire and courtesy issue in one sentence — and how far it went is what determines the volume of petrol getting to your injectors. Nothing careless about the mistake itself: a modern diesel filler neck takes the slimmer petrol nozzle with almost no resistance, so new locations see most of these. Phone us from wherever you are, close to Aviemore Community Centre or not, and we will get to the Vauxhall Astra.

## Dalfaber pricing for a petrol-in-diesel drain

What changes the price is set out below, as the job isn't one job and our engineers can't truthfully put a single price on this page.

- Whether your engine has been run or driven. This is the key one.

- Wrong fuel in, against what the tank holds — that ratio.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever got in.

- Access: the vehicle's position, and if working on it there is safe for a technician.

A firm answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: the car, the quantity, and if it has run.

If it's not urgent — the car is at home and going nowhere — works too.

## Questions our technicians get about petrol in diesel around Dalfaber

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Dalfaber?

Yes — forecourts are where a big portion of this takes place.

Our technicians visit another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts nearby all the time, with the site's consent — tell us which one you are at when you phone and we will tell you whether our engineers can work there.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Litres aren't the yardstick. Proportion is, and far more than either, it counts whether anything has been run.

What determines how much work is needed is if that blend has been drawn through the fuel system — because although five litres in an almost empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one, either way that is the query.

## I drove the vehicle after putting petrol in my diesel. Now what?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and leave it off.

Driving is what shifts the issue from your tank into the pump and injectors — but it is salvageable far more often than motorists fear, and the single most useful thing you can do now isn't restart it.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A drain then flush carried out properly is not a modification and does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one, which is another reason to leave the car switched off.

## Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?

What petrol has weakened is not restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old fix for a separate fault. So no.

Your pump still has to cope with it, because your tank still has petrol in it later.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

No. Our technicians drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a franchised dealer.

## Standing next to it?

Never switch it back on.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, turn off, and no restarting the vehicle later.

Cold, parked, going nowhere: that is the best position to be in. Motorists fear this far more than they need to.

Across Highland and in Dalfaber: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
