# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Drummochy

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled cars where they stand, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway, all over Drummochy and the remainder of Fife. The very first thing to do is not to turn on your engine. When your engine has not yet run and the fuel is still sitting in your tank, a fuel drain is almost always all it requires, and the next few minutes settle that, not how much went in.

We can show you what the following stage is. Call us — it happens before everything else.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do first

- Do not crank it — and do not trust it if it fires up. This is the bit most people get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol engine fed diesel normally just cannot run, and so the person stops and the harm ends with them. A diesel filled with petrol generally starts, ticks over and drives off perfectly well for a couple of miles. It's not all right. It is grinding your fuel system as you drive.

- Two things, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps the high-pressure pump and injectors lubricated. Petrol only handles the one. Which is why the ignition remains off as well — flick it on and you usually prime the system, and that is petrol exiting your tank for just those parts.

- That advice assumes a diesel fuel system accepts petrol by percentage. It does not. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you have is a fuller tank of the same blend. And no, the grade makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.

- Our team would sooner come to an awkward spot than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is quicker to deal with than a motor that has never shifted. On the verge on Woodlands Road, that means hazards on and keep the vehicle.

- Have your location ready before you phone. A postcode starting KY8 6 and whatever is next to you with a sign on it is the difference between the van arriving and a van circling.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three things — what got in, approximately how much, and whether your car has been started. Those answers settle whatever follows.

The high-pressure fuel pump spent that morning run working on a liquid that had shed a great deal of the protection it is designed around. Diesel greases that pump, and your injectors with it, before any of the fuel burns; petrol does the burning and none of the protecting. So picture a diesel Renault Megane, topped up at quarter past eight, driven in to work, and parked sitting at Leven until the penny drops somewhere around eleven. Three hours of sitting have changed nothing about it. The few miles before that changed plenty, which is why the question our technicians ask you is about miles rather than time. Phone. Leave the vehicle right where it sits.

## Can petrol be pumped out of a diesel on a forecourt?

The work starts at the pump, usually. Frequently the work ends there as well.

If you're still at the forecourt at Sainsbury's, that's usually where the drain happens — we operate on garage forecourts routinely, with the site's consent.

At the forecourt, the mistake gets halted with the engine never started, and no place else does it.

The few seconds between reading your receipt and going for the keys settle how much requires flushing. Everywhere other than the forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was fired up and moved to get there, so fuel was pulled from that tank, through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure pump. That means the lines and the filter require flushing as well as your tank. It is not a calamity, and we can still deal with it where the car sits.

Roll the car out of the way if the staff suggest it, and they generally will. The next customer gets past the petrol pump, and that's worth doing.

Four vehicle lengths is not worth a start.

Diesel Volkswagen Tiguan. A couple of litres of unleaded. Run a couple of miles. Switched off now, at Lidl. That is the phone call our technicians hope for, as the real question beneath it is about quantity through your pump rather than hours on the clock.

## Drummochy and the towns beside it

Drummochy is a residential suburb, so our vans go out to the town and to anywhere near it on the usual rounds: Lundin Links, Lower Largo, Upper Largo, Drumeldrie and Scoonie.

We do come. Those places above are only the nearest neighbours, and a page is there for nearly all places across Fife, and so an absence from the list isn't an absence from our coverage.

Presuming is the mistake to resist, above all on the boundary or anywhere a satnav gets lost. Call us to ask.

Use our map for the area covered here.

Roadside, forecourt, drive, car park: the lot is territory we serve, and none of it needs your car to move to us.

How far, and how hard? The second of those matters more than the first, so have both ready. Your Skoda Octavia will have felt entirely normal on the way back from the local primary school — they all do, and that is the snag. Diesel into a petrol vehicle generally won't run at all: the driver stops, and so does the damage. Petrol into a diesel fires up, idles, pulls away like nothing happened, while the high-pressure fuel pump gets on with its work minus the protection the fuel should be giving it. No warning arrives, as behind the wheel nothing appears wrong.

## Drummochy: stuck where you pulled up

Not everybody has the opportunity to pull over anywhere sensible.

If you realised after setting off and landed along the verge on Emsdorf Crescent, or at a lay-by somewhere with your hazards going, that is a common call for us and not an unusual one.

Safe right there? Remain beside it. Not okay? Move out and away from it.

Don't restart it to get to a nicer place. It'll go — a diesel on petrol generally obliges — and each mile of obliging pulls that mix deeper into the fuel system.

Our van coming to an awkward location is no bother for us, and it's much better for your car than pressing on.

## Already driven it? Petrol in a diesel over a few miles

This is where the local M90 counts, under 25 miles away from Drummochy.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfilled diesel will frequently do both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is rarely a neat stop. Power falls away, the idle turns rough, and there may be some smoke.

Come off at the first sensible junction, turn off, and do not restart the vehicle to reposition.

Long run? Anything close to the under 25 miles to the closest city and you should suppose the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of that arrived at by the petrol. Say that on the call, since it changes what goes in our van.

## A little about Drummochy

Drummochy is a coastal suburban area in Fife, situated near the towns of Lundin Links, Lower Largo, and Upper Largo. Drummochy has a relatively low elevation of 13 metres, and its coastal location offers views of the Firth of Tay. Drummochy is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its suburban nature. Drummochy is located approximately 17 miles from Dundee, the nearest city.

## What comes next when we get to you in Drummochy

- We find out what went in, how much, and if the motor has run. The responses change the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price.

- The tank is cleared of everything.

- Fuel lines are purged through and the fuel filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the fuel system that started any of this.

- Our engineers pour new diesel in and bleed the system.

- Once it is turned on, we confirm it runs smoothly on new diesel.

The vehicle is then ready for you to pull away.

All of it is done where your car is, so it never has to go to a garage, and when it has been noticed quickly, permanent damage is very unusual.

Our engineers purge the fuel lines rather than only clearing that tank, and the reason is that diluted fuel has already got to your filter and your pump: it was a start and a drive, however short. The drive genuinely assists — pulled off the forecourt, receipt read, a diesel Nissan Qashqai parked up close to Largo Library and Community Hub a few hundred yards later is about as well as this goes once the engine has turned. Phone us and leave it off.

## A separate matter: AdBlue in a diesel tank around Drummochy

If what got in was AdBlue rather than petrol, the opening rule is the same — don't start the car — yet the fault is not.

Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and strips out the protection the fuel system relies on.

Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that brings corrosion and build-up.

Our engineers deal with both, and AdBlue removal in Drummochy has its own page with the full story — including why it is frequently the more serious of the two.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain will cost in Drummochy

What moves the price is set out below, since the job isn't one job and our engineers can't truthfully put a single number on this page.

- This is the main one: whether the engine has been run, or driven.

- Wrong fuel in, against what the tank takes — that ratio.

- The kind of fluid in the tank, petrol or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a van get to it and work there safely?

A clear answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: your car, the quantity, and if it has run.

For your car at home that is going nowhere and is not pressing, is fine too.

No warning light exists for this, which is why motors in that position usually get driven once more before somebody phones. Do not be one of them. The throttle went dead and your idle turned ragged after a couple of streets, and the diesel Ford Focus is now resting close to Obelisk. Sluggishness there means fuel that can't build pressure fully instead of an engine giving up. Turn off. Call us.

## Questions our engineers get about petrol in diesel in Drummochy

## At a petrol station in Drummochy, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes, and it's where a good portion of this work takes place.

Often, provided the site consents: Shell, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that place is something our technicians answer there and then.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Ratio decides it instead of litres — and more than either, whether the engine has run.

Five litres into a nearly dry tank is not five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that mixture been sucked right through, or has it not?

## I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. Now what?

Pull in somewhere safe, switch off, and keep the car off.

Driving moves the issue along — out of that tank, into your pump and injectors. Motorists fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely valuable thing left to you is not restarting the vehicle.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty outlasts a drain and flush done to a proper standard, which is no alteration at all.

What's likelier to start an argument is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for the engine to remain off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old remedy for a separate issue and it does not replace what petrol has weakened.

Your tank still has petrol in it later on, and the pump still has to cope with it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

Wherever the vehicle is, our engineers drain and clean it there, so a drive to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## Still with your car?

Do not switch the car on again.

Turn it off somewhere sensible and leave it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and parked, a vehicle is in the best position available — and drivers fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.

Call-out fuel draining around Drummochy and throughout Fife — at the roadside, on the forecourt or at home.
