# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Dunlop

With that tank still holding the fuel and your engine not yet run, nearly every job requires only a drain, so keep your engine off. That outcome is determined in the minutes straight after the fill-up, and not by the amount that went in. Across Dunlop and the rest of East Ayrshire, Petrol in Diesel drains your car and cleans it where it is, whether at a roadside, on a driveway or at a forecourt.

Phone before all else happens, so you'll see what happens after that.

## Your first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- As you drive, the pump and the injectors suffer. That is why you never crank it, and why you do not rely on it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel in particular — the point motorists get wrong — is that it drives off normally for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor typically cannot run at all, which stops the motorist and stops the harm with them. This one lets you keep going.

- Leave the ignition off as well. Diesel performs two tasks: it burns, and before it combusts it lubricates that high-pressure fuel pump and those injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Switching the car's ignition on is often all it takes to prime your system, which pulls that petrol out of the tank then into exactly those components.

- Do not put diesel on top to water down it. A diesel fuel system will not handle petrol by percentage in the way that advice implies, and topping up takes out nothing — it simply hands you a bigger tank of the same blend. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.

- Sit tight if it's safe to. Hazards on, ignition off, keep the car. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Kirkland Road, anywhere — a difficult location for us beats a started motor, and nothing is easier for us to handle than a vehicle that never moved.

- Before you ring, get your location. Anything nearest to you with a sign on it, plus a postcode that starts KA3 4 — that's what determines whether the van turns up or circles.

- Dial 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three things — what went in, roughly how many litres, plus whether the engine has been turned over. Those replies determine everything that follows.

Never take it home. The commute has already pushed a real quantity of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of your Volkswagen Golf, and the trip back would roughly double it for no reason at all. Phone us from the platform if that is easier. Our engineers don't need you standing over your car outside the nearest station whilst our engineers get on, and our team would very much rather speak to you tonight than realise on Monday.

## At the forecourt: removing petrol from a diesel

The job kicks off at a forecourt, usually. Often enough the job wraps up there too.

If you're still at the forecourt at Esso, that is typically where this drain gets done — our technicians work on station forecourts all the time, with the site's agreement.

At the forecourt, it is spotted with your motor never fired, and no place else does it.

Fuel sucked out of that tank and through the fuel filter, right to the high-pressure pump, is what happens when your engine is started and the vehicle is moved to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes the filter and your lines as well as the tank. That's still not a calamity, and our engineers put it right where the vehicle sits. What decides it is whether the key was reached for in the seconds after your receipt was checked.

Staff will normally help out pushing it clear of the pump, which lets the next motorist get through. Accept the assistance.

Rolling the car four bays does not warrant cranking the motor.

Diesel Skoda Octavia. Some litres of unleaded. Done a couple of miles. Turned off now, outside Aldi. That is the call our technicians like, because the question beneath it's about volume through your pump rather than hours on the clock.

## Can we serve your end of Dunlop?

These same journeys get us to Moneyacres, Burnhouse, Halket, Fullwood and Lugton as well as Dunlop, which is a village.

Not on the list? It means nothing. The names above are simply the closest few, and most locations around East Ayrshire have a page of their own somewhere on this site.

Presuming is the mistake to resist, especially on the boundary or somewhere your satnav goes wrong. Ring us to check.

Look at our map for the ground included here.

Our technicians work by the road, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks throughout all of it, and your car never needs to come to us.

## Stranded at the kerbside somewhere around Dunlop?

Some people find no safe place to stop whatsoever.

Set off, then noticed? Ended up on the verge on Joiners Lane, or sat in some lay-by with the hazard lights on? That's a normal call here. Not an odd one.

Okay there? Stay by it. Not okay? Get out and away from it.

Don't start up the engine to limp it somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will often oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling the mixture further into your fuel system.

However difficult the location, it is no bother for us to get to it, and that is much better for your car than pressing on.

Try the trip home from Merito? Don't. It will fire up and it will drive off perfectly well, which is the issue — a diesel on a diluted tank acts normally whilst wearing the parts your fuel should be protecting. Leave the Dacia Duster then phone us.

## Petrol in a diesel, and your car has moved

This is where the M77 counts, under 5 miles away from Dunlop.

A misfilled diesel will frequently take you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong, and the symptoms when they arrive are generally a loss of power, an uneven idle and smoke instead of a clean stop.

Take the first exit that's sensible, pull up there, and don't start the car to move it.

Presume the worst of it on a long trip. Anything close to the under 25 miles to the nearest city, and the contamination has been through the filter, through your pump, through the fuel injectors. Tell us when you ring. What our engineers bring alters.

## Where is Dunlop?

Dunlop is a village in East Ayrshire, situated on the banks of a river at an elevation of 132 metres. Dunlop lies approximately 15 miles southwest of Glasgow and is surrounded by nearby places such as Moneyacres, Burnhouse, and Halket. Dunlop has a population of around 1113 people and is characterised by predominantly detached housing.

## The job in Dunlop, step by step

- Our engineers check what was put in, how much, and if your motor has run. The responses shape the work, which is why our engineers ask before quoting.

- The contaminated mixture comes out of the tank.

- Fuel lines are cleaned through and the fuel filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the system that started any of this.

- Fresh diesel goes in, and then the fuel system gets primed.

- We fire it up and check it runs smoothly on fresh diesel.

Your car is then ready for you to pull away.

Long-term damage is very rare when it has been noticed early, and because all of this is done where the car is, it never needs to be taken to a garage.

Why so firm about leaving the keys alone? Since the pump is ahead of the injectors, and a worn one sends whatever it sheds onward with the fuel. Call us. Leave the Vauxhall Astra near Dunlop Kirk.

## Dunlop AdBlue removal is a different job

Don't fire it up: that first step stands whether what got in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is the issue itself.

The protection a fuel system relies on is taken away by petrol, which thins your diesel.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with your diesel and you get rust instead, plus build-up.

AdBlue removal in Dunlop has a page of its own with the detail on it, including why it is often the more significant of the two. Our technicians cover both.

## Budgeting for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain around Dunlop

Our technicians can't put one price on this page honestly, since this job is not one job. What shifts it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, against how much that tank holds.

- Whether it was unleaded or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a van get to it and work there safely?

A straight answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: your vehicle, the quantity, and whether it has run.

Vehicle at home, going nowhere, nothing time-critical about it — is ideal for that.

A few streets, then it stopped. Throttle limp, idle uneven, and the diesel Peugeot 2008 is parked up by Dunlop Nature Park Cairn. Your engine isn't failing — that sluggishness is fuel that will not build pressure. There is no light on the dash for it, and so vehicles like yours normally get driven a second time before anyone picks up the phone. Do not. Off, and phone us.

## Petrol in diesel queries from Dunlop motorists

## I am on a forecourt in Dunlop. Can you drain it here?

Plenty of what we do happens nowhere else. So yes.

Tell us which one you're at when you ring and we'll tell you if we can work there. With the site's consent our technicians work at another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts locally routinely.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

It rests on the ratio instead of the litres, and much more on whether your motor has run.

What decides how much work is required is if that mix has been sucked through the fuel system — since even though five litres in an almost empty tank is a separate matter from five in a full one, either way that is the question.

## I drove the vehicle after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Switch off somewhere safe, and keep it that way after you stop.

Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does move the problem out of the tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it stays salvageable far more commonly than people fear.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A drain and flush carried out correctly isn't a modification and does not void a manufacturer's warranty.

Another reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause an argument with one.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

Two-stroke oil solves a distinct fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

Your tank still has petrol in it after that, and your pump still has to put up with it.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

You do not need one. Your car is drained and flushed wherever it is, with no need to take it to a dealership.

## Standing next to it?

Your engine stays off.

Already driven it? Then pull in somewhere sensible, turn off, then let the vehicle remain that way.

Cold and still, a vehicle is in the best place available — and drivers fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.

Call-out fuel draining in Dunlop and throughout East Ayrshire — at the roadside, on the forecourt or at home.
