# East Freeland: Petrol in a Diesel Car? Here Is What Happens

Stop, then keep the motor off — not on, and not for a second to move it.

Has not been run? Then petrol in a diesel will usually be a simple drain-and-flush job wherever your car has stopped — and no other factor decides that as much as these next few minutes do.

Anywhere you happen to be in East Freeland, here is how things run from now.

## Petrol in a diesel? What to do in minute one

Do these first, in this sequence.

- Priming your fuel system pulls petrol from your tank toward the components it harms, and switching the ignition on can be enough to do that. So the keys come out, and your ignition stays off altogether.

- Topping up with diesel sounds like it dilutes the issue. It does not: nothing comes out, and that tank just holds more of the same.

- Being seen comes first beside moving traffic: switch your hazards on, and only then think about everything else.

- However short the distance, starting it to shift it is the mistake. On a forecourt, push the vehicle away from the pump by hand instead, then ask the staff to lend a hand.

- The first question we will ask is which fuel you put in and about how much — and the receipt says both. Keep it.

On the M8, under 3 miles from East Freeland, the next junction is the location to come off; anywhere, the first safe place to stop. Do not push on to the services. Then go back to step one.

## Has it run yet? The fork in each East Freeland fuel drain

One answer is what everything after this stage depends on.

If the motor has not run at all:

- Only that tank has petrol in it for now.

- Usually it's emptied and rinsed right where the car is.

- No position is better, and it is why the first step matters so much.

Run at all, however briefly:

- Some petrol has left your tank already, passed through the filter, and reached the fuel lines.

- The high-pressure fuel pump as well as your injectors get it on a bigger run.

- The job expands with the miles — lines rinsed, filter seen to, occasionally more.

That line falls there since diesel lubricates the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors on its way through them — and petrol does not.

In that tank, sitting still, petrol does no harm.

Pump the petrol, though, and it grinds down the very parts doing the moving.

## Calling about petrol in a diesel from East Freeland: what to have prepared

Whether the van circles or finds you comes down to a little preparation.

- Where you have stopped. A postcode starting PA8 7 is the best start.

- Wherever you have parked, the road's name is useful — whether that is Arnish or somewhere else — and so does the name of a car park.

- Or the landmark. A car park is easier to find by what it serves, like the one outside Morrisons.

- The make and model of your vehicle, and the fact it is a diesel.

- What went in. Petrol, or AdBlue. AdBlue is a separate job with its own page for East Freeland, and so tell us which.

- How long the nozzle was in, or the litres on the receipt — whichever gives us how much.

- Whether it's run. And if it has, how far plus how heavily.

- Settle who has your car before our engineers get there: some hire or company agreements want the owner to approve this work, and that is faster first.

Ring 0333 366 0103 next. Email works as well if it can wait, with the car left at home, going nowhere.

## While you wait for a fuel drain in East Freeland

The wait is where well-intended help does the damage. Hold to these.

- Safety before the car. If it has stopped somewhere exposed, get yourself clear of the traffic then wait away from it. If it is safe where it is, wait with it.

- Nobody starts it. Not a passer-by being helpful, not to check it is all right, not to roll the car a couple of yards.

- Additives remain in the boot. Injector cleaner and two-stroke oil draw none of the petrol out again.

- Siphoning petrol into a can at the kerbside is dangerous — and it also leaves whatever fuel has already gone beyond that tank. Do not drain the vehicle yourself.

- Even the radio or your windows are not worth turning the ignition on for.

## Step by step: the fuel drain when our van gets there

- The price comes after three queries, not before them — what was put in, how much, and whether it's run — because those answers shape this job.

- Then your tank is cleared, and the polluted fuel comes out.

- The fuel lines are rinsed. If it ran, that petrol has shifted beyond that tank, and the fuel lines are holding it.

- The filter is dealt with. Cleared, or changed where the car has a serviceable one.

- Priming comes after fresh diesel is in.

- The start-up. With clean diesel in and the fuel system primed, it is started and tested to make sure it runs correctly.

Our technicians remain until it is running on new diesel.

It's very unusual for a vehicle caught soon to be left with lasting damage, and normal use resumes right away.

## East Freeland, after the fuel drain: back on the road

- Started on new diesel, it asks nothing unusual of you. Just drive normally.

- The first miles are the test. A warning lamp, exhaust smoke, a rough idle or a flat throttle is your signal to stop then call us a second time.

- An insurer, a fleet manager or a hire company may ask what was carried out, so hold on to the documents.

- Next time, go by the petrol pump's label instead of the colour of its handle.
