# The Next Steps, in Order: Petrol in a Diesel Car in Fagwyr

Stop. Motor off. Keep the vehicle like that — no moment on, no shifting it anywhere.

Petrol in a diesel that has not been run is normally a simple drain and a flush, done where the car stands, and what you do in the coming few minutes decides that far more than anything else.

Below is the order from this point, wherever in Fagwyr you are.

## Minute one: petrol in a diesel, engine off

Work through these in order, before you do anything else.

- Ignition off, keys out. Switched on, the ignition can prime your system — and priming is what moves petrol out of your tank towards the components it harms.

- A bigger tank of the same mix is all adding diesel gives you, since it takes out nothing. So no extra diesel.

- Get the car easy to see before anything else — hazard lights on — if there is traffic going past anywhere near you.

- By hand, never on the engine: that is how it leaves the petrol pump. Ask the forecourt attendants to help you push, whatever the miles.

- Which fuel, and roughly how much? Your receipt answers both, and that is where our first question starts. Never bin it.

Still on the move when you realised? Come off the M4 at the next junction if that's where you are, under 3 miles from Fagwyr, and stop somewhere safe and not pressing on to the services. Then begin at step one.

## Fagwyr fuel drain: has the engine run yet, or not?

One answer is what everything after this stage rests on.

Not run, not even once:

- That petrol is still in the tank and nowhere else.

- The work is a drain and a flush, usually done where your car stands.

- No spot is better, and it is why the first stage counts so much.

Engine run, even briefly?

- From that tank, past the fuel filter, into the lines: that's how far that petrol has travelled.

- A bigger run carries it all the way to the high-pressure pump and your injectors.

- Mileage is what makes it a larger job: the lines flushed, a filter seen to, and at times further work.

Petrol doesn't lubricate. Diesel does, oiling your pump and injectors as it flows through, which is why the line sits where it does.

In that tank, left alone, petrol harms nothing.

Move that petrol, though, and it grinds down the very parts that move it.

## Fagwyr, petrol in a diesel: have these prepared before you call

Prepare a little, and the van finds you rather than circling.

- Your location: a postcode beginning SA6 5 works best.

- Wherever you have parked, the road's name is useful — whether that is Ffordd Ellen or somewhere else — and so does the name of a car park.

- Car parks are located most easily by what they serve: tell us the one at Spar, and it's straightforward.

- Say what your car is — make, model — and check it is diesel.

- Which went in matters: AdBlue is a separate job from petrol, and Fagwyr has a page just for that. So say.

- How much. Litres from your receipt, or how long the nozzle was in.

- Has it run? If so, tell us how far it got, and the way it was driven.

- Settle who has the car before our engineers get there: some hire or company contracts want the owner to approve the work, and that is faster beforehand.

Call 0333 366 0103 once you have got that together — or, if your car is at home, going nowhere, use .

## Fagwyr fuel drain on its way? While you wait

The wait is where well-meant help does the harm. Hold to these.

- Where your car has stopped decides where you wait. Exposed: away from it, away from the traffic. Safe: with it. Either way, safety ahead of your car.

- Not to roll it a few yards, not to check it is all right, not for a passer-by's kindness: no one starts it.

- Additives stay in the boot. Injector cleaner and two-stroke oil take none of the petrol out once more.

- Clearing it yourself is not the answer: a can of siphoned petrol on a verge is a danger, and the fuel beyond the tank remains put regardless.

- Even your radio or your windows aren't worth switching your ignition on for.

## Van arrived? Your fuel drain, one step at a time

- Fuel, amount, whether it has run: the answers set this job, and that is why you get a price after them instead of before.

- Out of the tank comes the tainted mix: your tank is emptied.

- Purging your lines follows, because a motor that ran has petrol past that tank, inside the lines themselves.

- Then your filter: swapped where there is a workable one, cleared where there's not.

- Priming comes after clean diesel is in.

- The start-up. With clean diesel in and the fuel system primed, it's started and tested to make sure it runs smoothly.

The vehicle has clean diesel running through it before our engineers head off.

Your car goes back to normal use right away, and permanent damage is very unusual when it has been noticed early.

## Fagwyr, after the fuel drain: back on the road

- Started on clean diesel, it asks nothing unusual of you. Simply drive normally.

- Pull over and call us back if anything looks wrong early on — a light on your dash, smoke from your exhaust, an idle that is lumpy, or a throttle with a dead spot.

- Keep the documents. A hire company, a fleet manager or an insurer may ask what was done.

- Next time, trust the petrol pump's label rather than the colour of its handle.
