# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Fox Hills

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a private drive, all over Fox Hills and the rest of Somerset. The first thing to do is not to fire up the engine. When your engine has not yet been started and the petrol is still in the tank, a tank drain is nearly always all it needs, and the next few minutes settle that, not how much was put in.

Contact us before everything else starts, and you'll see what comes after that.

## The first five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Feed a petrol motor diesel and it will usually refuse to run at all, so the person stops there and so does the wear. Give a diesel petrol and the thing starts, it idles, it drives off — fine enough for a couple of miles. People have that backwards, which is the part they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So don't fire it up. And if started, don't rely on it: the fuel system is wearing whenever you drive.

- Leave the car's ignition off too. Diesel does two jobs: it combusts, and before it combusts it protects that high-pressure pump and the injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Switching the ignition on is frequently all it takes to prime that system, which moves this petrol out of the tank then into just those parts.

- That guidance assumes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It does not. Add diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you get is a fuller tank of the same mix. And no, the grade makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.

- Stay put if it's sensible to. Hazards on, engine off, leave the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Meadow View, anywhere — a difficult place for us beats a started diesel, and nothing is easier for us to handle than a car that never shifted.

- Get your location prepared before you dial. A postcode that starts BA3 3 and whatever is nearest to you with a label on it is the difference between a van arriving and the van circling.

- Call 0333 366 0103. Expect three queries — what got in, approximately how much, and if your car has been turned over. Those answers determine all that follows.

The journey in is what sucked diluted diesel through your pump. Sitting still has drawn nothing. Petrol in a diesel Renault Clio, parked at Oldfield Park all day, sits harmless in that tank whilst it waits. Phone first — before the keys go in.

## Forecourt draining for petrol in a diesel

The job begins at a forecourt, typically. Often enough the job finishes there as well.

Still at Shell? Then that is generally where it takes place. Station forecourts are everyday for us, with the consent of the station.

A filling station is the only spot it can be caught before your motor has run.

The few seconds between seeing your receipt and reaching for your key determine how much needs flushing. Everywhere other than the forecourt — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — the car was switched on and driven to get there, so fuel was pulled from your tank, through your filter then into your high-pressure pump. That means your lines and your filter require flushing as well as that tank. It is not a catastrophe, and our technicians can still sort it out where the vehicle stands.

Clear of the pump, the next motorist can get past — so yes, let the staff help you roll the car. Well worth doing.

Cranking it for four vehicle lengths? No.

## Will our engineers cover your corner of Fox Hills?

The same runs carry us to Radstock, Southfield, Haydon, Northfield and West Hill Gardens besides Fox Hills, which is a residential suburb.

Not on that list? It says nothing. The names above are simply the nearest few, and nearly all locations across Somerset have a page of their own somewhere on the site.

Near the border, or somewhere your phone struggles with? Phone to ask instead of guessing.

See the map for the patch shown here.

The vehicle doesn't need to come to us. We work throughout all of it — roadside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

## Stopped by the roadside somewhere around Fox Hills?

Not everyone gets a safe place to pull over.

A common call for us instead of a rare one: noticed after setting off, finished up by the verge beside Church Street or in a lay-by with the hazards flashing.

Clear of your car while it isn't safe to sit there, with it when it is.

Don't restart your engine to limp it somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling that mix further into the system.

Pressing on causes your car far more harm than a van heading out to an inconvenient place, and that's no bother for us.

Your Dacia Duster remains where it is in the car park outside The Radstock Hotel for the whole job, which normally runs like this. First we ask what was put in, approximately how much, and whether the engine has run since, because most of the work turns on those answers. The tank is emptied of the tainted mix, the lines are rinsed, and the filter comes off if it's a replaceable one. With fresh diesel in and the fuel system primed, the vehicle is started and tested, and once it is running smoothly you drive away.

## A few miles on petrol in a diesel: what now?

Here is where the M32 comes into it — under 15 miles away from Fox Hills.

It will often get you onto it, and some way along, before you feel a thing. Then it's smoke, a lumpy idle and power ebbing away — not a tidy stop. Misfilled diesels seldom give you one of those.

Take the next junction that's sensible, stop there, and don't restart the car to reposition.

Presume the worst of it on a long run. Anything close to the under 10 miles to the nearest city, and the contamination has been through the fuel filter, through your pump, through the injectors. Mention it when you phone. What our engineers bring changes.

## All about Fox Hills

Fox Hills is a suburban area situated on the riverside in Somerset, with a mix of terraced housing and a relatively low elevation of 76 metres. Fox Hills lies close to the city of Bath, approximately 7.5 miles away, and is also near other local places such as Radstock and Southfield. Fox Hills has a population of around 2286 residents and is located within commuting distance of major cities, including London which is 101.1 miles away.

## What happens when we get to you in Fox Hills

- The answers change the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price: what got in, how much of it, and whether your motor has run.

- We clear that tank of the polluted fuel.

- Lines flushed, filter cleared. Whatever is left later is not the thing that started the problem.

- The fuel system gets bled, on new diesel.

- It is fired up with clean diesel in it, and our engineers make sure that it's running smoothly.

That leaves your car ready to pull away.

All of it is done where the car is, so it never has to be taken to a garage, and when it has been spotted quickly, long-term damage is very uncommon.

Why we are blunt about not driving on: your pump waits ahead of the injectors, so whatever a wearing pump loses passes on with your fuel. Leave the Audi A6 by Saint Nicholas then ring us.

## Fox Hills AdBlue removal is a distinct problem

Do not fire it up: that first rule stands whether what was put in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is this fault itself.

Petrol does two things to diesel: thins it, and removes the protection your fuel system depends on.

Rust and build-up are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, as AdBlue is urea in water.

Our technicians handle both, and AdBlue removal around Fox Hills has its own page with the details — including why it is usually the more significant of the two.

A motor you collected two days ago gets driven further before anyone sees anything, which is the hire and courtesy fault in one sentence — and how far it went is what decides the volume of petrol arriving at the injectors. Nothing careless about the mistake itself: a newer diesel filler neck accepts the narrower petrol nozzle with practically no resistance, and so strange locations see most of these. Call us from wherever you are, near Radstock Youth Hub or not, and we will head to the Ford Kuga.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain costs around Fox Hills

What changes the figure is listed below, because the job isn't one job and our engineers cannot truthfully put a single price on this page.

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else counts for as much.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- The type of fluid in the tank, petrol or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a technician get to it and work there sensibly?

A straight answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: the vehicle, the amount, and whether it has run.

For the car at home that's going nowhere and is not urgent, is fine too.

No warning exists for this, which is why vehicles in that position typically get driven again before anybody rings. Don't be one of them. The throttle went soft and the idle turned lumpy after a few streets, and your diesel Citroen C3 is now sitting close to Victoria Hall. Deadness there means fuel that cannot build pressure fully rather than a motor packing up. Turn off. Ring us.

## Fox Hills motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## At a petrol station in Fox Hills, can you do a fuel drain there?

Plenty of what our technicians do takes place nowhere else. So yes.

Tell us which one you are at when you phone and we will tell you if we can work there. With the owner's consent we visit Esso and the other forecourts nearby all the time.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Whether the engine has run counts far more, though the ratio matters too, instead of the litres.

What settles how much work is required is whether that mix has been drawn through the fuel system — since even though five litres in a nearly empty tank is a distinct matter from five in a full one, either way that's the query.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? What then?

Pull over somewhere sensible, turn off, then keep the vehicle off.

Driving is what moves the problem from that tank into the pump and injectors — but it is salvageable much more frequently than people fear, and the single most useful thing you can do now isn't restart it.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

It's not an alteration, and so a drain and flush carried out correctly doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a dispute with one, which is another reason to leave the car turned off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old remedy for a different problem and it doesn't replace what petrol has weakened.

That tank still has petrol in it later on, and your pump still has to live with it.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Wherever the car is, our technicians drain and clean it there, so a trip to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## Is the car still with you?

Switched off is the way the car remains.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, switch off, and no restarting the car later.

Cold and parked, a motor is in the best place available — and motorists fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Throughout Somerset and around Fox Hills: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
