# Fulwood: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled vehicles where they are, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, throughout Fulwood and the rest of Nottinghamshire. The first thing to do is not to turn on your engine. While the motor has not been started and the petrol is still sitting in that tank, a drain is almost always all it takes, and the coming few minutes settle that, not how much got in.

Our engineers shall tell you what your next part will be. Call us — that goes ahead of everything else.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in order

- As you drive, the pump and the injectors wear down. This is why you never start it, and why you do not depend on it once it has started. The thing about petrol in a diesel in particular — the bit people get wrong — is that it pulls away fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine usually can't run at all, which stops the person and stops the damage with them. This one lets you keep going.

- Leave your ignition be too. Diesel does two roles: it burns, and before it combusts it protects that high-pressure pump and the injectors. Petrol does the first and not the second. Switching your ignition on is commonly enough to prime the system, which carries that petrol out of the tank and into just those components.

- Topping up removes nothing. It leaves you a bigger tank of the same blend, because a diesel fuel system doesn't tolerate petrol by percentage as that advice implies — so do not put diesel on top to weaken it. Octane is immaterial too: super unleaded is petrol.

- We'd much rather drive to a difficult spot than have it started — so if you sensibly can, stay put. Nothing is easier to sort than a motor that has not shifted. On the verge on Fonton Hall Drive, that means hazards on then keep the car.

- Keep your whereabouts prepared before you dial. A postcode beginning NG17 1 and whatever is next to you with a label on it is the difference between a van arriving and our van circling.

- Three replies decide the full visit: the liquid you put in, the approximate measure of it, plus if it has been going since. The line is 0333 366 0103.

## Pump-side draining for petrol in a diesel

Most of the job begins at a forecourt, so a fair share of it ends up finished there.

If you're still at the forecourt at Shell, that is normally where the drain happens — we operate on petrol station forecourts regularly, with the owner's consent.

A forecourt is the one place it can be stopped before your engine has run.

Our technicians can still put it right where it is, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a private drive or in a lay-by, the car has been started and driven there, and that drew fuel through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, right from your tank. None of that is a calamity, although the flush then has to reach past your tank to your lines and your filter, and the few seconds between reading the receipt and going for your key are what decide that.

Clear of the petrol pump, the next customer can get through — so yes, let the attendants help you push the car. Worth it.

Moving the car four bays doesn't warrant starting it.

## Fulwood and the places near it

The same trips get us to Huthwaite, Commonside, Bentinck Town, Hilcote and Sutton in Ashfield as well as Fulwood, which is a residential suburb.

There are dedicated pages for nearly all towns across Nottinghamshire, and the ones named above are simply the closest neighbours — so yours being missing from that list says nothing at all about whether our engineers come.

Contact us and check rather than guessing — borders above all, and wherever your satnav can struggle with.

That map is the patch this page covers.

Every bit of it is territory we cover: a roadside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You don't bring your vehicle anywhere.

## Fulwood: stuck where you pulled up

Some people have no safe spot to pull over whatsoever.

Set off, then twigged? Finished up by the verge of Manderley Gardens, or parked in some lay-by with the hazard lights flashing? That's a normal call here. Not a rare one.

Remain with the vehicle when it's sensible to be inside, yet out of the car if it isn't.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that mix further into the system — and oblige it frequently will, which is why the engine doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier.

We will bring our van to an awkward place without any bother, and for the car that's a lot better than carrying on.

A diesel BMW 1 Series sitting in the car park by Duke of Sussex holding a tank of petrol in it is a straightforward job, right up till somebody takes it home. Park the car overnight and phone first thing. Nothing deteriorates whilst it stands. What our technicians will want to know is if that drive there was short and chilly, because that is where petrol is least able to burn correctly — and whatever does not burn can slip past the rings then into the sump.

## A few miles on petrol in a diesel: what next?

This is where the M1 matters, under 3 miles from Fulwood.

A misfilled diesel will frequently get you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong, and the symptoms when they come are generally a loss of power, an uneven idle and some smoke instead of a neat stop.

The next sensible exit is the one to take. Turn off there, and leave the restarting alone.

On a longer trip — anything approaching the under 15 miles to the closest city — take it the contamination has been through the filter, your pump and the fuel injectors, and mention it when you call. It alters what we bring.

Here is the whole mechanism. Diesel needs enough body to seal the tight tolerances it goes through, and petrol takes that away. That's it. Which explains the usual Rookery Park call — a diesel Mercedes A-Class, out there without a murmur and back down on power, rough at idle, possibly a bit of smoke. Injection systems work hydraulically as well as chemically, so your fuel has to hold pressure and not just burn; diluted, it leaks past those gaps instead of building, and delivery comes weaker, later, less even than the engine was built around. Not a failing engine, though. Fuel that has stopped acting like diesel. Put that right and it stops.

## Fulwood itself

Fulwood is a suburban area in Nottinghamshire, situated approximately 12 miles north of Nottingham city centre. Fulwood sits in a relatively elevated position at around 178 metres, with detached housing being the predominant type of accommodation in the area. Fulwood is located near other local places such as Huthwaite and Commonside, and is part of the wider Nottingham urban area.

## When we reach you in Fulwood: what follows

- Three things get established before any price — your fuel that got in, the quantity, and if anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.

- The tank is drained completely.

- What is remaining in the fuel system should not be what started the issue, and so the fuel lines get flushed and your filter cleaned.

- Our technicians pour clean diesel in and prime your system.

- It is run with clean diesel in it, and we make sure that it is running correctly.

Then it is ready to set off.

Permanent damage is very unusual when it has been caught early, and since everything is done where the car is, it never needs to be taken to a workshop.

About as well as this goes, once the motor has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and your diesel Peugeot 208 left near Magdelene Centre hardly two streets on. Call us, and leave the vehicle off. A short distance does truly help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, and so the fuel filter and the pump have had thinned fuel through them — hence cleaning the lines instead of only emptying the tank.

## Fulwood AdBlue removal is a different job

Don't crank it: that first step holds whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is the fault itself.

Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and removes the lubrication the system depends on.

Corrosion and residue are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, as AdBlue is urea in water.

Our technicians deal with both, and AdBlue removal around Fulwood has its own page with the detail — including why it's often the more significant of the two.

A vehicle you picked up two days ago gets driven further before anybody spots anything, which is the hire and courtesy issue in one sentence — and how far it went is what settles the amount of petrol arriving at the fuel injectors. Nothing careless about the mistake itself: a current diesel filler neck takes the narrower petrol nozzle with practically no resistance, so strange places see most of these. Phone us from wherever you are, close to Church of St Mary Magdalene or not, and we'll head to the Citroen C3.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain costs around Fulwood

One figure would not be honest here, because this isn't one job. These are the things that shift it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- Wrong fuel in, against what your tank holds — that proportion.

- The type of liquid in the tank, unleaded or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there is sensible for a van.

Tell us what the car is, how much got in, and if the motor has run. A firm answer comes back, not a range.

For your car at home that's going nowhere and is not urgent, is fine too.

The fuel filter, the fuel lines, your pump and the rail: that's where the mixture is once a diesel has run, and it does not come back out with your tank contents. So your tank isn't where most of the problem waits by this point, and a diesel Kia Sportage that got near St Johns Methodist Church needs your circuit cleared instead of cleared.

## Petrol in diesel queries from Fulwood motorists

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Fulwood?

Much of what we do happens nowhere else. So yes.

Regularly, provided the site consents: The Co-operative, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether our technicians can work in that location is something our technicians answer on the spot.

## Is there a sensible amount of petrol in a diesel?

Litres aren't the measure. Proportion is, and much more than either, it counts if anything has been run.

Five litres into a nearly dry tank isn't five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that blend been sucked right through, or has it not?

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove the car. What next?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and keep it off.

It's recoverable far more often than drivers expect, even though driving is what shifts the issue from that tank into the pump and injectors — and the single most useful thing you can do now is not restart it.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

A drain and flush carried out properly isn't a modification and does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

What's likelier to start an argument is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more good reason for your engine to remain off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a different problem and it does not replace what petrol has weakened.

Petrol stays in that tank after that, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no break from it.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Not at all. Our technicians drain and clean the car wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a main dealer.

## Standing next to it?

Switched off is how it remains.

Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, switch off, and no restarting it later.

Cold and stationary, a vehicle is in the best position available — and motorists fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Nottinghamshire and in Fulwood: mobile fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
