# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Glebe?

Do not start your engine. If the fuel is still in that tank and your engine has not yet run, a tank drain is nearly always all it needs — and that is settled in the next few minutes, not by how much went in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled cars where they stand, throughout Glebe and the rest of Highland, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway.

Call us and then our engineers shall explain what follows from here before you do anything else.

## What next? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

- Do not start the vehicle — and never depend on it when it runs. This is the thing motorists have wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. A petrol motor fed diesel usually just can't run, so the person stops and the harm halts with them. A diesel fed petrol generally starts, ticks over and moves off just fine for several miles. It isn't okay. It's eating into the fuel system while you drive.

- Flicking the ignition on frequently primes your system, and priming is what carries petrol out of that tank and into your pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps greased on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol manages the burning and none of the lubricating. Leave your ignition be.

- Never weaken it. Diesel put on top takes out nothing, and so all you get is more of what was already there, since percentage is not how a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The grade makes no difference.

- Our team would rather come to an awkward place than have it started — so if you safely can, stay put. Nothing is quicker to handle than a vehicle that has never moved. On the verge on Chapel Street, that means hazards on and keep the car.

- Before you call, gather your location. Anything next to you with a sign on it, plus a postcode that starts IV1 1 — that's what decides whether the technician arrives or circles.

- What got in, approximately how many litres, plus whether your car has started — these three replies settle your whole visit. Dial 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

## Pump-side draining for petrol in a diesel

Pumps are where the work mostly kicks off, and where a good share of it finishes.

We work on station forecourts routinely, with the station's permission, so if you are still at BP that's usually where this drain gets done.

Before your engine has started — the forecourt is the only place the mistake ends up stopped.

We can still sort it out where it is, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, the vehicle has been started and moved there, and that pulled fuel through the filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump, all the way from the tank. None of that is a disaster, though the flush then has to go past your tank to your lines and your filter, and the few seconds between seeing the till receipt and going for the keys are what settle that.

The staff will generally help you wheel the car clear of the pump so the next motorist can get through. It is worth doing.

Four car lengths isn't worth the risk.

## Glebe plus the areas beside it

The same trips bring us to Inverness, Merkinch, Citadel, Crown and Haugh as well as Glebe, which is a residential suburb.

Not on that list? It tells you nothing. The places above are just the closest few, and nearly all locations in Highland have a page of their own somewhere on the site.

Guessing is the habit to skip, particularly on a border or anywhere your phone fails. Phone and check.

The area this page spans is on the map.

Every bit of that is ground we serve: a roadside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You don't move the car anywhere.

Put diesel in a petrol motor and mostly it will not run, so the motorist stops there and the wear stops with them. Swap it — petrol into a diesel — and the car starts, idles and pulls away as though nothing had happened, whilst the high-pressure fuel pump works without the protection your fuel is meant to be supplying. That is the trap, and it is why your diesel Audi A6 will have felt perfectly ordinary coming back from the local primary school. They do. From behind the wheel there's nothing to alert you about, so nothing tells you. Phone with roughly how far you travelled, and how hard; the second one counts more than the first.

## Glebe: stuck wherever you parked

Some people have no sensible spot to pull over at all.

Hazards on at a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge beside Shore Street Roundabout as you realised after setting off — we take that call regularly enough that it's the ordinary kind.

Safe where you are? Wait with it. Not fine? Step out and clear of it.

It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along perfectly willingly, and that's the problem: restart the car to get to somewhere safer and the blend goes further into the system with every mile travelled.

We'll send the van to an inconvenient spot without any bother, and for the car that's far better than driving on.

It will start. It will drive off quite happily. That's the problem, as a diesel on a thinned tank runs usually whilst wearing down the components its fuel should be protecting. So no, don't risk the journey home from The Innes — leave the Ford Kuga then phone us.

## Run it already? Pull over, and check below

Here is where the local M90 comes in — over 50 miles away from Glebe.

It will often take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is some smoke, an uneven idle and power falling away — not a neat stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.

Take the first exit that's sensible, pull up there, and don't start it to reposition.

It affects what our engineers bring, and so say so when you ring: on a longer drive — anything approaching the under a mile to the nearest city — take it the mixture has been through the filter, your pump and the fuel injectors.

Injection pressure is the thing being lost. Petrol thins diesel, and thinner fuel slips past the precision components that are supposed to build that pressure, and so the farther a diesel Peugeot 208 drove, the less well it held. Fine on the way out and sluggish on the way back is how that drive to Northern Meeting Park went, then, and your tank is where to look. Pull over somewhere sensible, turn off and phone us.

## About Glebe

Glebe is a coastal suburban area in the Highland county of Scotland, situated very close to the city of Inverness. Glebe sits at a low elevation of around 6 metres, looking out over the Moray Firth. Glebe is predominantly composed of flat housing, which is typical of many Scottish suburban areas. Glebe is located near other nearby places such as Merkinch and Citadel.

## What our engineers do when our engineers arrive with you in Glebe

- Our engineers check what was put in, how much, and whether the motor has run. The answers change the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price.

- The tainted mixture is pulled out of the tank.

- What is left in the fuel system should not be what started the trouble, and so the lines get cleaned and the fuel filter cleaned.

- The fuel system gets primed, on new diesel.

- Our technicians fire it up and make sure it runs properly on clean diesel.

At that point it's ready to drive away.

Long-term damage is very rare when it has been caught early, and as everything is done where your car is, it never has to be taken to a garage.

Your pump rests before your injectors, and so whatever a worn-out one loses moves on with your fuel — which is why we are direct about not driving on. Phone us, and leave the diesel Citroen C3 where it's close to Inverness Pentecostal Church of God.

## A separate problem: AdBlue in a diesel tank in Glebe

The problem is not the same, though the opening instruction is — never fire it up — if what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol.

Petrol thins your diesel and takes away the lubrication the fuel system depends on.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it causes rust and deposits instead.

AdBlue removal around Glebe has a page of its own with the full story on it, including why it is often the more serious of the two. We deal with both.

Most of these occur somewhere new, and the cause is mechanical rather than sloppy — practically no resistance meets a narrower petrol nozzle entering a current diesel filler neck. Two days into a diesel Kia Sportage, a fill-up by Free Presbyterian Church that you didn't think about? Phone us from where you are. Courtesy and hire cars go further before anyone clocks it, and the further they go, the more petrol ends up at the fuel injectors.

## Budgeting for a petrol-in-diesel drain around Glebe

We can't put one figure on this page honestly, since this job is not one job. What shifts it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, compared with how much the tank takes.

- AdBlue or unleaded, whichever got in.

- Where your car is, and whether a technician can sensibly get to and work on it.

The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back clear rather than as a range.

If it isn't pressing — your car is at home and going nowhere — works too.

## Petrol in diesel: common queries in Glebe

## Fuel drains on a Glebe petrol station forecourt

Yes — forecourts are where a good share of this takes place.

Regularly, provided the site agrees: Morrisons, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether we can work in that location is something our engineers answer straight away.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Proportion decides it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run.

What determines how much work is required is if that mixture has been sucked through the fuel system — since although five litres in an almost empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one, either way that is the query.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the car

Stop safely. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving shifts the issue along — out of your tank, into your pump and injectors. Motorists fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely useful thing left to you isn't restarting the car.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

It's not a change, and so a drain then flush carried out properly does not void a manufacturer's warranty.

Another reason to leave it switched off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

No. It belongs to a different fault from a separate era, and petrol has diluted something no oil of that kind replaces.

Petrol remains in that tank later on, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no break from it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

There's no need to bring it to a main dealer, since our engineers drain and clean the car wherever it is.

## You, and the vehicle, still together?

The motor remains off.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, turn off, then let the car stay that way.

This is recoverable from a lot more often than motorists fear, and a parked, cold car is the best position to be in.

Emptying misfuelled vehicles, Glebe and the rest of Highland, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
