# Glyne Gap: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Don't fire up the motor. If the fuel is still sitting in the tank and your engine has not turned over, a tank drain is nearly always all it requires — and that gets settled in the coming few minutes, not by how much went in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled vehicles where they are, throughout Glyne Gap and the remainder of East Sussex, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a private drive.

Just one ring our way is plenty: we will explain what comes next. Make this straight away.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do next

- Do not crank it — and do not believe it if it starts. Here is the bit most people get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. A petrol motor given diesel normally just won't run, so the driver stops and the wear ends with them. A diesel fed petrol usually starts, ticks over and drives away quite happily for a couple of miles. It isn't fine. It is grinding your fuel system as you drive.

- Two jobs, diesel: it burns, and on the way through it keeps the high-pressure pump and injectors greased. Petrol only does the one. Which is why the ignition remains off too — turn it on and you commonly prime that system, and that is petrol leaving that tank for precisely those components.

- That advice presumes a diesel fuel system handles petrol by percentage. It won't. Pour diesel on top and nothing at all is removed; what you end with is a fuller tank of the same blend. And no, the type makes no difference — super unleaded is just petrol.

- Sit tight if it's wise to. Hazards on, motor off, keep the car. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Bexleigh Avenue, anywhere — an awkward spot for us is better than a started diesel, and nothing is quicker for us to sort than a vehicle that never shifted.

- Before you dial, get your whereabouts. Anything next to you with a label on it, plus a postcode starting TN38 8 — that's what determines whether the technician shows up or circles.

- Call 0333 366 0103. Let us know what was put in, about how much, and also whether the motor has fired. Those three facts shape the whole call-out.

How far you travelled is what our technicians ask about, not how long your car has been parked — and here's why. Diesel does two roles on its way through an engine: it combusts, and before burning it greases the high-pressure pump and those injectors. Petrol does the first only. So a hurried fill on the road in, the penny dropping somewhere around eleven, and a diesel Renault Megane sitting at West St Leonards since quarter past eight tells us those few miles were covered with the pump running on a liquid drained of much of its protection. Phone us then leave the car exactly where it stands.

## Removing petrol from your diesel on the forecourt

The work starts at a pump, typically. Often enough the job finishes on site as well.

Still at Esso? Then that is normally where it takes place. Station forecourts are routine for us, with the permission of the owner.

Before the engine has run — a forecourt is the only spot the mistake gets stopped.

Our technicians can still deal with it where it is, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a drive or in a lay-by, the vehicle has been started and driven there, and that sucked fuel through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, all the way from that tank. None of that is a disaster, though the flush then has to reach past the tank to the lines and the filter, and the few seconds between seeing the receipt and going for your key are what determine that.

Staff will generally help out pushing it out from the petrol pump, which lets the next motorist get by. Take the offer.

Cranking the car to shift four vehicle lengths isn't.

## Do we cover your side of Glyne Gap?

Those same journeys take us to Bulverhythe, Pebsham, Harley Shute, West Marina and Old Town besides Glyne Gap, which is a residential suburb.

If yours isn't on that list that does not mean we do not come — there are separate pages for the majority of locations across East Sussex, and the ones listed above are simply the closest neighbours.

Assuming is the thing to skip, especially on the border or anywhere your satnav goes wrong. Contact us and check.

This map marks the area the page covers.

Every bit of that is territory we cover: a roadside, a forecourt, a driveway, a car park. You do not move the car anywhere.

Nothing alerts you, as from behind the wheel there is nothing to be warned about. Your diesel Skoda Octavia will have seemed perfectly normal on the way back from Pebsham Primary Academy, and they all do — which is the trap with petrol in a diesel rather than the reverse. Diesel in a petrol vehicle mostly refuses to run, stopping the motorist and stopping the wear with them. Petrol in a diesel starts, idles, pulls away as though nothing had happened, and all the while the pump works without the lubrication its fuel is supposed to supply. Tell us about how far, and how hard. The harder matters more.

## Stuck on the roadside near Glyne Gap

Not everybody has the opportunity to pull in somewhere safe.

A common call for us rather than an odd one: worked out after setting off, ended up by the verge beside Bexhill Road or in a lay-by with your hazards on.

Fine right there? Stay beside it. Not fine? Move out and away from it.

Do not restart it to get to a nicer location. It will go — a diesel on petrol normally obliges — and each mile of obliging draws that mix deeper into the fuel system.

We will send the van to a tricky location without any fuss, and for the vehicle that is a lot better than pressing on.

What we'll ask is if that trip there was short and cold, as that's where petrol is least able to burn properly — and anything that doesn't burn can get past the piston rings then into the engine oil. Right up to the moment someone drives it home, a diesel Nissan Qashqai standing in the parking area by The Bull Inn carrying a tank full of petrol in it is a simple job. Nothing deteriorates whilst it stands, and so park it there overnight and call us next morning.

## Already run it? Petrol in a diesel after a couple of miles

under 50 miles out of Glyne Gap, the M20 is what matters here.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a wrongly fuelled diesel will often manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is seldom a clean stop. Power ebbs away, the idle gets rough, and there may be smoke.

Do not restart it to reposition. Get off at the first sensible junction and switch off.

On a longer drive — anything approaching the under 50 miles to the closest city — assume the mixture has been through the filter, the pump and your injectors, and mention it when you ring. It changes what our technicians bring.

## About Glyne Gap

Glyne Gap is a small suburban area situated on the coast of East Sussex, with Glyne Gap being close to the towns of Bexhill-on-Sea and Hastings. Glyne Gap has a relatively low elevation of 11 metres above sea level, and Glyne Gap is located near several other suburban areas, including Bulverhythe and Pebsham. Glyne Gap is characterized by its predominantly semi-detached housing stock, with Glyne Gap being a residential community within the larger conurbation of Bexhill-on-Sea.

## Our visit around Glyne Gap, step by step

- Three things get asked before any price — your fuel that went in, the amount, and whether anything has been run since. Each answer changes the work.

- That tank gets drained completely.

- We purge the fuel lines and clean your filter, so what's remaining in the fuel system isn't what started the trouble.

- The fuel system gets bled, on fresh diesel.

- Our technicians fire it up and check it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

The car is then ready for you to drive away.

All of it is done where your car is, so it never has to be taken to a workshop, and when it has been noticed early, permanent damage is very unusual.

Pulled off the forecourt, read your receipt, and parked your diesel Peugeot 3008 up close to The Galleon a few hundred yards later? That is about as well as this goes once the motor has turned. Ring us and leave it off. The short drive truly helps, but it was still a start and a drive, so weakened fuel has reached the fuel filter and your pump — which is why our technicians flush the fuel lines rather than only emptying that tank.

## Glyne Gap AdBlue removal is a distinct job

The fault is not the same, though the first step is — do not crank it — if what was put in was AdBlue instead of petrol.

Diluted diesel, and no protection left for your fuel system that depends on it. That is petrol.

AdBlue is urea in water, and in a diesel tank it causes corrosion and build-up instead.

Both are ours. There is a separate Glyne Gap page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.

## Budgeting for a petrol-in-diesel drain around Glyne Gap

Truthfully, no single number belongs on a page like this. This job differs. Here is what changes it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, weighed against how much your tank takes.

- The kind of liquid in the tank, petrol or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can our van reach it and work there safely?

Tell us what your car is, how much got in, and whether the engine has run. A clear answer comes back, not a range.

Not pressing, with the vehicle at home and going nowhere? Then does this job.

No warning exists for this, which is why motors in that position usually get driven once more before anybody calls. Please don't be one of them. The throttle went soft and your idle turned uneven after a couple of streets, and the diesel Audi A6 is now sitting near Portrait Bench. Softness there means fuel that can't build pressure fully rather than a motor failing. Turn off. Ring us.

## Glyne Gap drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Glyne Gap?

Yes — forecourts are where a big portion of this takes place.

Regularly, provided the site consents: JET, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that place is something our technicians answer straight away.

## Is there a sensible quantity of petrol in a diesel?

Ratio decides it instead of litres — and more than either, whether your engine has run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different scenarios, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the system has had that mixture drawn through it.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? What now?

Switch off somewhere sensible, and keep it that way after you stop.

It is recoverable a lot more often than people assume, even though driving is what takes the issue from the tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart it.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a proper standard, which is no alteration at all.

What's likelier to start a dispute is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more good reason for the motor to remain off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

Two-stroke oil solves a separate fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol diluted. No.

Your pump still has to live with it, since that tank still has petrol in it afterwards.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

There's no need to take it to a main dealer, as our technicians drain and clean your car wherever it is.

## You, and the vehicle, still together?

Shut off is the way it stays.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, turn off, then let the vehicle stay that way.

Cold and parked, a car is in the best position available — and motorists fear this a lot more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across East Sussex and in Glyne Gap: mobile fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
