# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Hallatrow?

Do not fire up the motor. While the petrol is still in your tank and the motor has not yet been started, a drain is nearly always all it needs — and that's settled in the following few minutes, not by how much went in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled vehicles where they sit, throughout Hallatrow and the remainder of Somerset, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive.

Phone and our team shall show you what comes from here before you do much else.

## What to do first about petrol in a diesel

- Do not crank it — and don't rely on it when it starts. Here is the bit motorists get wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. A petrol engine filled with diesel typically just can't run, and so the motorist stops and the damage stops with them. A diesel fed petrol typically starts, idles and drives away without complaint for a couple of miles. It's not fine. It is eating into your fuel system while you drive.

- Two tasks, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps your injection pump and injectors oiled. Petrol only manages the one. That is why your ignition stays off as well — turn it on and you frequently prime the system, and that's petrol leaving that tank for precisely those components.

- That guidance presumes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It will not. Pour diesel on top and nothing at all is taken out; what you get is a bigger tank of the same mixture. And no, the grade makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.

- We would much rather get to an awkward place than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay put. Nothing is simpler to handle than a vehicle that has never shifted. On the verge on The Grove, that means hazards on and keep the vehicle.

- Our van arriving rather than circling hinges on two things: a postcode starting BS39 6, and whatever is closest to you with a name on it. Get both ready before you phone.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Expect three points — what was put in, approximately how many litres, and whether the engine has been started. The replies settle whatever comes after.

## Can petrol be taken from your diesel on the forecourt?

A good part of this job is completed at a forecourt, as that's where it often starts.

We work on garage forecourts all the time, with the station's consent, so if you're still at Texaco that is usually where the drain takes place.

Before the motor has started — a garage is the only place the mistake is spotted.

Anywhere else — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — your car was switched on and driven to get there, which means fuel was sucked from that tank, through the fuel filter then into the high-pressure pump. That's not a calamity, and we can still sort it out where it is. It does mean the fuel lines and the filter need cleaning as well as that tank, and that's determined by the few seconds between seeing your receipt and going for the keys.

Staff will usually chip in pushing it out from the petrol pump, which lets the next motorist get through. Welcome the help.

Four car lengths isn't worth the risk.

We are in car parks like the one at The Co-operative Food all the time, and it's rarely your fuel that complicates them. It's the bay. Motors both sides. Trolleys stacked up behind. Sometimes a height bar at the way in, which decides whether a technician gets to you at all. So say how hemmed in you are when you phone, and which way the car is facing. If there's no clearance to work next to that Volkswagen Tiguan, our technicians roll it without the motor. That isn't fussiness over a few seconds: starts prime things, blend comes out of that tank toward your pump, and a car moved twice for a nicer space is silently a harder job than one no one touched.

## Parts we cover around Hallatrow

Those same trips carry us to White Cross, High Littleton, Paulton, Greyfield and Temple Cloud along with Hallatrow, which is a village.

If yours isn't on this list it does not mean we do not come — there are separate pages for most locations across Somerset, and the ones mentioned above are just the immediate neighbours.

Phone to check rather than presuming, above all if you're on a border or anywhere your satnav misreads.

The patch this page includes appears on this map.

Every bit of that is territory we cover: a roadside, a forecourt, a driveway, a car park. You don't move the car anywhere.

## Stranded on the roadside anywhere around Hallatrow?

A chance to pull over anywhere sensible doesn't come to everyone.

If you realised after setting off and landed by the verge beside Wells Road, or at a lay-by somewhere with your hazards flashing, that's a routine call for us rather than an unusual one.

Clear of the car if it isn't sensible to sit in it, beside it if it is.

It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along perfectly willingly, and that is the problem: restart it to reach somewhere safer and that blend goes further into your fuel system with every mile driven.

However difficult the spot, it is no problem for us to come to it, and that is a lot better for your car than pressing on.

Your Mercedes C-Class remains where it is in the car park outside The Old Station Inn for the whole job, which normally runs like this. First we ask what got in, approximately how much, and whether your engine has run since, given that most of the work turns on those answers. The tank is emptied of the contaminated mixture, the fuel lines are cleaned, and the filter comes off if it is a replaceable one. With fresh diesel in and your system bled, the vehicle is started and checked, and once it is running correctly you pull away.

## Run it already? Pull over, then see this

This is where the local M32 comes into it — under 15 miles from Hallatrow.

It will often get you onto it, and some way along, before you spot a thing. Then it is some smoke, an uneven idle and power ebbing away — not a tidy stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

The first sensible junction is the one to take. Switch off there, then leave the restarting alone.

On a longer trip — anything close to the under 10 miles to the closest city — assume the petrol has been through the fuel filter, the pump and the injectors, and say so when you ring. It affects what we bring.

A diesel injection system works hydraulically as well as chemically: your fuel has to hold pressure, not only burn. Thin that fuel and pressure which should build and stay built leaks past tolerances instead, leaving the engine a poorer, later, less even delivery than it was designed around. Petrol dilutes diesel, and diesel has to be heavy enough to seal the close-fitting parts it passes through — that's the full mechanism. It accounts for the normal Greyfield Wood call too: a diesel Ford Kuga that travelled out without a murmur and came back down on power, rough at idle, maybe smoking a little. None of which is the engine failing, and that's the bit worth hearing. The fuel has stopped behaving like diesel. Put the fuel right and it stops.

## About Hallatrow

Hallatrow is a small village in the South West of England, situated on the riverside in Somerset, with a mix of detached housing and a population of around 528 residents. Hallatrow sits at an elevation of 88 metres, close to the nearby villages of White Cross, High Littleton, and Paulton. Hallatrow is located near the city of Bath, approximately 8.6 miles away, and is about 104.1 miles west of London. Hallatrow remains a quiet residential community with a rural character.

## The job around Hallatrow, step by step

- Our engineers ask first, quote after. What went in? How much? Has the engine run? Those replies change what the work actually is.

- Out comes the tainted fuel.

- What is remaining in the fuel system should not be what started the problem, so your fuel lines get flushed and your filter cleared.

- Fresh diesel goes in, and then your system gets primed.

- We start the car and check it runs properly on fresh diesel.

The car is then ready for you to drive away.

All of it is done where the car is, so it never has to be taken to a workshop, and when it has been noticed early, lasting damage is very uncommon.

Our technicians clean your lines rather than only draining that tank, and the reason is that weakened fuel has already arrived at the filter and the pump: it was a start and a drive, however short. The drive really helps — pulled off the forecourt, receipt read, a diesel BMW X1 parked up near Holy Trinity Church Hall a couple of hundred yards later is about as well as this goes once your engine has turned. Call us and leave it off.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Hallatrow is a separate problem

If what was put in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the opening instruction is unchanged — never fire it up — yet the issue is not.

The protection a fuel system relies on is stripped away by petrol, which weakens the diesel.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus residue.

Both are ours. There is a separate Hallatrow page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

Most of these happen somewhere new, and the cause is mechanical not sloppy — almost no resistance meets a slimmer petrol nozzle entering a modern diesel filler neck. Two days into a diesel Peugeot 2008, a fill-up by Holy Trinity that you didn't think about? Phone us from where you are. Courtesy and hire cars go further before anyone spots it, and the further they go, the more petrol arrives at your injectors.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain in Hallatrow?

What changes the figure is listed below, as the job is not one job and we can't frankly put a single price on this page.

- Whether the engine has been run or driven. This is the key one.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- Whether it's petrol or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a technician get to it and work there safely?

The vehicle, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm and not as a range.

For the car at home that is going nowhere and isn't urgent, works too.

## Hallatrow motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Fuel drains on a Hallatrow petrol station forecourt

Yes, and it's where a big part of this work happens.

Often, provided the site consents: Murco, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our technicians can work in that location is something we answer straight away.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Litres are not the measure. Ratio is, and far more than either, it matters whether anything has been run.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: separate scenarios, definitely. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the system has had that mixture drawn through it.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove it. Now what?

Stop safely. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most helpful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the issue out of the tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it remains fixable much more often than people assume.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

It is not an alteration, so a drain and flush carried out properly doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one, which is another reason to leave the vehicle switched off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. It belongs to a distinct problem from a separate era, and petrol has weakened something no oil of that kind puts back.

Later? Still petrol in your tank, and a pump that has to put up with the stuff.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Wherever the vehicle is, we drain and clean it there, so a visit to the main dealer doesn't come into it.

## Standing next to it?

Leave the car switched off.

Switch it off somewhere sensible and keep it off, if you have already driven it.

This is recoverable from a lot more frequently than motorists expect, and a stationary, cold motor is the best place to be in.

At the roadside, on the forecourt or at home — call-out fuel draining in Hallatrow and across Somerset.
