# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Hill Top? Don't Start It

If you have not turned on the engine yet, do not. A fuel drain and nothing more is almost always what a car needs while the petrol is still inside the tank and the motor has not yet turned over, which is why it's the following few minutes that count, not how much went in. Petrol in Diesel goes to the vehicle wherever it has ended up in Hill Top or the rest of West Yorkshire, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive, and drains and flushes it there.

We shall show you what your next step is. Contact us — this comes ahead of anything else.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in order

- Give a petrol engine diesel and it will usually fail to run at all, and so the driver stops there and so does the damage. Feed a diesel petrol and the car starts, it ticks over, it moves off — fine for a couple of miles. People have that backwards, which is the part they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So do not crank it. And once started, never rely on it: that fuel system is grinding whenever you drive.

- Two tasks, diesel: it burns, and on the way through it keeps your high-pressure pump and injectors oiled. Petrol only manages the one. Which is why your ignition stays off too — flick it on and you usually prime that system, and that's petrol leaving that tank for just those components.

- Don't add diesel on top to thin it. A diesel fuel system will not cope with petrol by percentage in the way that advice suggests, and topping up clears nothing — it simply gives you a bigger tank of the same mix. The type makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.

- Remain where you are if you reasonably can. A car that has never moved is the quickest one to handle, and our team would rather drive to an awkward spot than have it started. If you are pulled up on the verge on Hill Top Road, switch those hazards on then keep it there.

- Find out where you are before calling. A postcode that starts WF2 6, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise the van circles instead of showing up.

- Dial 0333 366 0103. Say what got in, about how much, and also if the car has run. Those three replies settle the full visit.

Call us before you move it. Petrol into a diesel Renault Megane this morning, and the car outside Sandal & Agbrigg ever since? Then the day has taken nothing from you: fuel sitting in a tank is inert, and any damage came on the run in, when your pump was pulling diesel that petrol had diluted.

## Forecourt draining for petrol in a diesel

Forecourts are where the job mostly begins, and where a big part of it closes.

Still at Asda? Then that's normally where it happens. Station forecourts are normal for us, with the permission of the site.

The forecourt is the only place it is caught before your engine has run.

Fuel drawn out of your tank and through the fuel filter, right to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what happens when your engine is fired up and your car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush covers the fuel filter and the lines as well as the tank. That is still not a catastrophe, and our technicians deal with it where the car sits. What settles it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the till receipt was read.

Push the vehicle out of the way if the staff volunteer, and they usually will. The next motorist gets by the pump, and that is worth doing.

Cranking the car just for four vehicle lengths? No.

We are in car parks like the one at Aldi often, and it is rarely your fuel that complicates them. It is that bay. Vehicles both sides. Trolleys stacked up behind. Occasionally a height limit at the way in, which settles if our van gets to you at all. So mention how penned in you are when you call, and which way the vehicle is pointing. If there is no space to work alongside the Volkswagen Passat, our engineers roll it without the motor. That's not pedantry over a few seconds: starts prime things, blend comes out of that tank on to the pump, and a car shifted twice for a nicer spot is quietly a worse job than one no one touched.

## Places we cover around Hill Top

As a residential suburb, Hill Top sees a frequent call, whilst the areas round about come along on that same trip: Newmillerdam and Pledwick, Kettlethorpe and Woolgreaves, Stand Bridge.

Our technicians still come. Those places above are just the closest neighbours, and a page exists for nearly all locations in West Yorkshire, so an absence from the list isn't an absence from the coverage.

Ring us to ask instead of assuming — county lines above all, and wherever your phone tends to get wrong.

See this map for the patch covered here.

Kerbside, forecourt, driveway, car park: every bit of it is territory we cover, and none of that asks your vehicle to travel to us.

## Hill Top: stranded wherever you parked

Some drivers have no suitable spot to stop whatsoever.

If you noticed after setting off and ended up on the verge of Hill Road, or at a lay-by somewhere with the hazards on, that is a normal call for us and not an unusual one.

Stay by the motor while it's wise to sit in it, and clear of the vehicle when it is not.

It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that is the trouble: start it up to reach somewhere better and that blend goes further into the fuel system with every mile driven.

However difficult the location, it's no bother for us to get to it, and that's far better for your car than pressing on.

Here is what a job in the car park outside The Dam Inn generally looks like. Our engineers arrive at the car, ask what was put in, about how much, and whether your engine has run since — those three replies settle much of the work. Then the polluted blend comes out of that tank, the lines get cleaned, and the fuel filter comes off where your Audi A4 has a serviceable one. New diesel goes in and the fuel system is primed. Then we fire it up, make sure it runs smoothly, and you set off.

## Driven it already? Pull over, and check below

under 3 miles out of Hill Top, your M1 is what counts here.

It will usually take you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it is smoke, an uneven idle and power draining away — not a neat stop. Misfuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.

Take the first exit that's safe, stop there, and don't start the car to reposition.

On a longer trip — anything approaching the under 5 miles to the closest city — assume the contamination has been through your filter, the pump and the injectors, and mention it when you phone. It affects what we bring.

## Hill Top itself

Hill Top is a suburban area in West Yorkshire, situated on the riverside at an elevation of 54 metres, with detached housing being the predominant type of accommodation. Hill Top is located near the city of Wakefield, approximately 3.1 miles away, and is close to nearby places such as Newmillerdam, Pledwick, and Kettlethorpe. Hill Top has a population of around 1169 residents and is part of the wider Wakefield urban area. Hill Top is also relatively distant from London, at a distance of 158.1 miles.

## What our engineers do when we arrive with you in Hill Top

- The answers change the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price: what was put in, how much of that, and whether your motor has run.

- Our technicians drain that tank of all the contaminated fuel.

- Fuel lines are flushed through and your filter cleared, leaving nothing in the fuel system that created any of this.

- The system gets bled, on fresh diesel.

- The motor is turned on and checked to make sure it runs correctly on fresh diesel.

That leaves your car ready to drive away.

Lasting damage is very rare when it has been noticed quickly, and since everything is done where the car is, it never needs to go to a garage.

Why we are direct about not driving on: your pump sits before the injectors, and so whatever a worn pump gives off passes on with the fuel. Leave the BMW 1 Series close to War Memorial and call us.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Hill Top is a separate matter

The problem is not the same, though the opening step is — do not crank it — if what was put in was AdBlue rather than petrol.

The protection a fuel system relies on gets taken away by petrol, which thins the diesel.

AdBlue is urea in water, and in a diesel tank it brings rust and residue in its place.

Both are ours. There is a separate Hill Top page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.

## Hill Top prices for a petrol-in-diesel drain

Frankly, no single price belongs on a page like this. The job changes. Here's what varies it:

- Whether your motor has been run or driven. This is the main one.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- AdBlue or unleaded, whichever got in.

- Where is it? And can a technician get to it and work there sensibly?

A straight answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: the vehicle, the amount, and whether it has run.

For the car at home that is going nowhere and isn't time-critical, works too.

No warning exists for this, which is why cars in that position normally get driven once more before anybody phones. Do not be one of them. The throttle went dead and the idle turned uneven after a few streets, and the diesel Citroen C3 is now resting near St Peters & St Pauls Church. Softness there means fuel that can't build pressure correctly rather than a motor packing up. Switch off. Ring us.

## Petrol in diesel: frequent queries around Hill Top

## At a petrol station around Hill Top, can you do a fuel drain there?

Much of what our engineers do gets done nowhere else. So yes.

Our engineers attend JET and the other forecourts nearby routinely, with the station's agreement — tell us which one you're at when you phone and we'll tell you whether we can work there.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Proportion decides it rather than litres — and more than either, whether the motor has run.

What determines how much work is needed is if that mixture has been pulled through the fuel system — since although five litres in an almost empty tank is a distinct case from five in a full one, either way that is the query.

## I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. Now what?

Switch off somewhere safe, then keep it that way after you stop.

Driving moves the issue along — out of that tank, into the pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one really helpful thing left to you isn't restarting the car.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain and flush done to a proper standard, which is no change at all.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one, which is another good reason to leave the car turned off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

Two-stroke oil solves a distinct issue, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

Your tank still has petrol in it afterwards, and your pump still has to live with it.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — necessary?

There is no need to take it to a franchised dealer, since our technicians drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.

## Is the car still with you?

Shut off is the way the car stays.

If you have already driven it, pull in somewhere safe, turn it off then keep it off.

This is recoverable from a lot more frequently than people expect, and a stationary, cold vehicle is the best position to be in.

Across West Yorkshire and around Hill Top: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
