# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Hillfield? Don't Start It

With that tank still holding the fuel and your engine not yet started, almost every job needs only a drain, so keep the engine off. That result is determined in the minutes immediately after the fill-up, and not by the amount that went in. All over Hillfield and the remainder of Somerset, Petrol in Diesel drains the car and flushes it where it is, whether at a roadside, on a private drive or at a forecourt.

We will explain what the following move is. Ring us — that goes ahead of all else.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

- Never crank it — and don't rely on it when it fires up. This is the thing most people get wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol engine filled with diesel generally just will not run, and so the motorist stops and the harm stops with them. A diesel given petrol usually starts, idles and drives off quite happily for a few miles. It is not all right. It is grinding the fuel system as you drive.

- Diesel burns, and before it burns it lubricates — that injection pump, the injectors. Petrol does only the burning. So leave the ignition alone too: flicking it on is often sufficient to prime the system, and priming moves petrol from that tank into precisely those components.

- Don't weaken it. Diesel tipped on top removes nothing, so all you get is more of what was already there, because percentage is not how a diesel fuel system handles petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The grade makes no difference.

- We'd sooner come to an odd spot than have it started — so if you sensibly can, stay put. Nothing is quicker to sort out than a vehicle that has not moved. On the verge on Comer Road, that means hazards on and keep the car.

- Have your whereabouts ready before you dial. A postcode starting BS27 3 and whatever is nearest to you with a name on it is the difference between the van showing up and our van circling.

- What went in, about how much, plus if the engine has fired — the three facts shape the whole visit. Dial 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

Tonight, please, not Monday. Running it home is the only thing not to do: a commute has pushed real quantity through the pump already, petrol-thinned diesel and plenty of that, and the return journey would roughly double the figure to no purpose. The Renault Megane can stay at Worle perfectly safely. Phone from the platform if simpler; standing over us whilst we work isn't necessary.

## Can petrol be drained from a diesel at the forecourt?

The job begins at a forecourt, generally. Regularly the work wraps up on site as well.

If you're still on the forecourt at Murco, that's normally where this drain happens — we work on petrol station forecourts regularly, with the site's agreement.

A filling station is the only setting it can be spotted before the engine has started.

Fuel drawn out of your tank and through the fuel filter, all the way to the high-pressure pump, is what happens when your engine is switched on and the car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes the filter and your lines along with the tank. That's still not a calamity, and our engineers put it right where your car is. What settles it is whether the key was turned in the seconds after the receipt was checked.

The attendants will usually help you roll the vehicle out from the petrol pump so the next customer can get by. That is worth doing.

Four vehicle lengths is not worth the risk.

Petrol in the Skoda Octavia, and it takes diesel? Shopping in your boot, you outside Sainsbury's, somewhere around Hillfield? Then phone, and leave the motor out of that — not even to exit that space. Someone heads your way. Tank cleared, fuel lines flushed, fresh diesel in, and home you go. Easy throttle over a mile draws hardly anything, so these are usually the straightforward cases.

## Service in Hillfield

Hillfield is a residential suburb, and so our technicians go out to it and to the villages around it on those same trips: Barrows, Cheddar, Hamfield, Lippiatt and Bradley Cross.

If yours is not on that list it does not mean we never come — there are separate pages for most places across Somerset, and the ones mentioned above are just the immediate neighbours.

Contact us to check instead of assuming, especially when you're on a boundary or anywhere a satnav struggles with.

This map shows the area the page covers.

We operate roadside, at forecourts, on driveways and in car parks across all of it, and your car does not need to move to us.

Somebody will advise you to move the car out of that gateway and fix it later. Do not. A misfilled diesel Peugeot 3008 on the zig-zags at Cheddar First School is a hassle; the same car restarted three more times to be courteous is a fuel system instead of a tank. Each restart primes the lines and pulls more petrol through the filter then into the pump. Leave it there, let everyone complain, then ring us.

## Roadside stops around Hillfield

Some drivers get no sensible spot to pull over at all.

A common call for us instead of a rare one: noticed after setting off, finished up by the verge on Southfield or at a lay-by with the hazards on.

Clear of the motor while it isn't safe to be in it, with it when it is.

It will often oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along perfectly willingly, and that is the catch: fire it up to reach somewhere safer and the mixture goes further into your fuel system with every mile travelled.

Pressing on causes the vehicle far more harm than our van coming out to an awkward place, and that is no trouble for us.

A diesel BMW 1 Series sitting in the parking area by Kings Head holding a tank of petrol in it is an easy job, right up till somebody takes it home. Leave it there overnight then phone in the morning. Nothing deteriorates as it waits. What we will ask is if that trip there was brief and chilly, as that's where petrol is least able to burn properly — and what won't burn can get past the piston rings and into the sump.

## A couple of miles on petrol in a diesel: what now?

Here is where the local M5 matters, under 5 miles out of Hillfield.

Some distance along, and onto it in the first place: a wrongly fuelled diesel will frequently manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is rarely a clean stop. Power falls away, the idle turns uneven, and there may be some smoke.

Don't restart it to reposition. Pull off at the first sensible junction and turn off.

It alters what our technicians bring, so tell us when you phone: on a longer run — anything near the under 10 miles to the closest city — take it the contamination has been through the fuel filter, the pump and the fuel injectors.

## Hillfield itself

Hillfield is a suburban area situated on the lakeside in Somerset, with an elevation of around 20 metres. Hillfield lies near the city of Wells, approximately 7.6 miles away, and is also close to other nearby places such as Barrows, Cheddar, and Hamfield. Hillfield has a population of around 4166 people and is characterised by predominantly detached housing. Hillfield is located in the South West region of England, about 115.6 miles from London.

## When we arrive with you in Hillfield: what happens

- Three things get asked before any price — your fuel that was put in, the quantity, and if anything has been run since. Each answer changes the work.

- Your tank gets cleared of it.

- What is left in your system shouldn't be what caused the problem, so the fuel lines get cleaned and the fuel filter cleared.

- The fuel system gets bled, on clean diesel.

- When it's turned on, we make sure it runs properly on clean diesel.

After that it is ready to drive away.

All of it is done where the car is, so it never needs to go to a workshop, and when it has been caught early, long-term damage is very uncommon.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank instead, in Hillfield?

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the opening step is unchanged — your engine stays off — while the problem beneath it is a distinct one altogether.

The lubrication a fuel system relies on is taken away by petrol, which weakens your diesel.

Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that leads to corrosion and build-up.

Both are ours. There is a separate Hillfield page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

New locations are where this happens most, and the reason is mechanical not sloppy: the slimmer petrol nozzle goes into a newer diesel filler neck with practically no resistance at all. Fuelled up near Church Hall without thinking, in a diesel Volvo XC60 you have had for two days? Phone us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars usually get driven further before anyone notices, and distance is what determines how much petrol gets to the fuel injectors.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain costs in Hillfield

Frankly, no single number belongs on a page like this. This job changes. Here is what moves it:

- This is the main one: whether the engine has been started, or driven.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.

- Which got in: unleaded or AdBlue.

- Whether a van can sensibly get to your car and work on it, which rests on where the car is.

Tell us what the car is, how much went in, and whether the motor has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range.

If it is not pressing — the vehicle is at home and going nowhere — works too.

## Petrol in diesel: everyday questions in Hillfield

## I'm on a forecourt around Hillfield. Can you drain the vehicle here?

Yes, and it's where a large part of this work happens.

Routinely, provided the site agrees: BP, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether we can work in that place is something our engineers answer straight away.

## Is there a safe amount of petrol in a diesel?

Litres are not the measure. Proportion is, and a lot more than either, it matters whether anything has been run.

What determines how much work is needed is whether that mix has been pulled through the system — because though five litres in a nearly empty tank is a distinct situation from five in a full one, either way that is the question.

## I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. What now?

Switch off somewhere safe, then keep it that way after you stop.

Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does move the issue out of that tank and into the pump and injectors, yes, and it remains recoverable far more regularly than motorists assume.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

No. Carried out correctly, emptying and purging is no alteration at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is unaffected by it.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a dispute with one, which is another reason to leave the vehicle switched off.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

Two-stroke oil solves a separate issue, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

The pump still has to put up with it, as your tank still has petrol in it afterwards.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — needed?

You do not need one. The vehicle is drained and cleaned wherever it is, with no need to take it to a main dealer.

## Is the car still with you?

Your engine remains off.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, turn off, then let it stay that way.

Cold, parked, going nowhere: that's the best place to be in. People fear this much more than they need to.

Call-out fuel draining in Hillfield and throughout Somerset — at the roadside, on the forecourt or at home.
