# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Hirwaun?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled cars where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, across Hirwaun and the remainder of Rhondda Cynon Taf. The first thing to do is not to start your engine. When the engine has not yet run and the petrol is still inside your tank, a drain is almost always all it requires, and the coming few minutes decide that, not how much got in.

Call us and then our team will show you what follows from here before you do much else.

## Your first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- Do not start it — and never depend on it when it starts. Here is the part most people have wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol engine filled with diesel normally just can't run, so the driver stops and the damage ends with them. A diesel filled with petrol normally starts, ticks over and drives off perfectly well for a few miles. It isn't all right. It's wearing the fuel system while you drive.

- Two things, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps the injection pump and injectors lubricated. Petrol only manages the one. Which is why the ignition is left off also — switch it on and you often prime your system, and that is petrol leaving that tank for just those parts.

- Never thin it. Diesel added on top takes out nothing, so all you have is more of what was already there, because percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system copes with petrol. Super unleaded? Just petrol. The octane makes no difference.

- Stay where you are if you safely can. A motor that has never moved is the quickest one to sort, and we'd rather drive to an odd location than have it started. If you are pulled up on the verge on Maescynon, switch those hazards on then keep the car there.

- Find out where you are before calling. A postcode beginning CF44 9, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise our van circles rather than showing up.

- What was put in, approximately how many litres, and also if the motor has run — the three facts settle your whole job. Call 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

The trip back would more or less double it, for no gain at all. One commute has already pushed a real volume of petrol-thinned diesel through the high-pressure fuel pump of your Renault Megane. So keep the vehicle where it stands. Phone us from the platform if that's handier — nobody needs you standing over the vehicle outside Aberdare while our technicians work, and tonight trumps finding out on Monday.

## On a forecourt: removing petrol from your diesel

Pumps are where the job usually starts, and where a good portion of it finishes.

If you're still at the forecourt at Tesco, that's generally where this drain gets done — our technicians work on petrol station forecourts regularly, with the owner's agreement.

Nowhere else but a forecourt can this be halted with the motor still unrun.

Our technicians can still put it right where it is, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a private drive or in a lay-by, the vehicle has been fired up and moved there, and that pulled fuel through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, right from your tank. None of that is a disaster, but the flush then has to reach past that tank to the fuel lines and your filter, and the few seconds between reading the till receipt and going for the key are what settle that.

Move the car out of the way if the attendants offer, and they generally will. The next driver gets through the petrol pump, and that is worth doing.

Starting it just for four car lengths? No.

The awkward part is the bay, not the fuel. Vehicles either side of you, a trolley shelter behind, and occasionally a height barrier on the way in that determines if a van can reach you at all — so when you ring from a car park like the one outside Co-op Food, tell us how much room there's about you and which way round the car is. Those we cover frequently. Should there be no space to work next to the diesel Skoda Octavia, it gets shifted with the engine off, and not out of fussiness over a couple of seconds of running: priming takes place at every start, more of that mix exits that tank for the pump, and two shunts into a nicer space have quietly made a bigger job of what was simply a vehicle standing still.

## Can our engineers reach your part of Hirwaun?

Penywaun, Llwydcoed, Cwmdare, Tre-Gibbon, Tre-Ifor — all of them on the rounds that carry us out to Hirwaun too, a residential suburb.

If yours isn't on this list it does not mean we never come — there are separate pages for nearly all locations in Rhondda Cynon Taf, and the ones mentioned above are simply the immediate neighbours.

Phone and enquire instead of guessing — boundaries especially, and wherever a satnav can struggle with.

The map is the ground this page spans.

Kerbside, forecourt, drive, car park: the lot is ground we work on, and none of that needs your vehicle to move to us.

## Hirwaun: broken down wherever you pulled up

Not everyone gets a sensible spot to stop.

A routine call for us rather than a rare one: realised after setting off, landed by the verge of Springfield Gardens or in a lay-by with the hazard lights going.

Out of the motor while it is not wise to wait there, beside it when it is.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol pulls the mixture further into your fuel system — and oblige it often will, which is why the engine does not get restarted to limp somewhere better.

Pressing on does the vehicle far more harm than a van heading out to an inconvenient location, and that's no trouble for us.

Park it there overnight. Call us first thing. Nothing about a diesel Audi A4 standing in the car park at Prince of Wales degrades as it waits, tank of petrol or not, and this job remains an easy one right up till the moment it gets taken home. The query our technicians arrive with is about the drive there: a cold motor over a short run is where petrol ignites least well, and whatever fails to burn can work its way past the piston rings into the sump.

## A few miles on petrol in a diesel: now what?

under 15 miles from Hirwaun, the M4 is what matters now.

A drop in power, a lumpy idle, smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, rather than a tidy stop — and a misfilled diesel will frequently take you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong at all.

Never restart it to reposition. Get off at the next safe junction and turn off.

Long run? Anything close to the under 25 miles to the nearest city and you should suppose the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it reached by the contamination. Say that on the call, as it changes what goes in our van.

## Where's Hirwaun?

Hirwaun is a suburban area situated in the county of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, with a riverside setting and an elevation of 183 metres. Hirwaun lies near the communities of Penywaun, Llwydcoed, and Cwmdare, and is approximately 20 miles from Swansea. Hirwaun has a population of around 2670 people, predominantly living in semi-detached housing. Hirwaun is located in a region with strong industrial heritage, close to the south Wales valleys.

## Our job around Hirwaun, step by step

- Three things get checked before any quote — your fuel that got in, the amount, and if anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.

- The contaminated fuel is pulled out of your tank.

- What is left in your system shouldn't be what started the problem, so the fuel lines get purged and your filter cleaned.

- Our engineers pour clean diesel in and prime the fuel system.

- After it is started, we check it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

That leaves your car ready to pull away.

All of this is done where the vehicle is, so it never needs to go to a workshop, and when it has been noticed quickly, lasting damage is very unusual.

About as well as this goes, once the engine has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and your diesel Dacia Duster left by Hirwaun Library scarcely two streets on. Call us, then leave it off. A short distance does really help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, and so your filter and your pump have had thinned fuel through them — hence flushing the fuel lines instead of only clearing that tank.

## Hirwaun AdBlue removal is a separate job

Never start it: that opening instruction holds whether what got in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is the fault itself.

Petrol weakens your diesel and strips the lubrication the fuel system depends on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Put that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus deposits.

Both are ours. There's a separate Hirwaun page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel drain in Hirwaun?

Truthfully, no single number belongs on a page like this. This job differs. Here is what varies it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, weighed against how much the tank can hold.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever went in.

- Where is it? And can a van get to it and work there sensibly?

The car, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight and not as a range.

Motor at home, going nowhere, nothing urgent about it — is ideal for that.

Drain it and put fresh diesel in — that is the advice you will get, usually from someone certain, and it is only half right. Do precisely that to a diesel Kia Sportage close to Saint James' Church and it would start, which is what makes the suggestion sound sensible. What happens next is the problem: the motor at once draws the petrol still resting in the fuel filter and the feed lines straight back through your pump, as emptying a tank does nothing about fuel that has already left it. Ring us instead. Our technicians flush the circuit and take the fuel filter off where your vehicle has a serviceable one, which is the difference between your car being repaired and the vehicle just starting.

## Petrol in diesel questions from Hirwaun motorists

## Fuel drains on a Hirwaun petrol station forecourt

Yes, and it is where a big part of this work takes place.

Regularly, provided the site agrees: Texaco, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether our technicians can work in that place is something we answer there and then.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Whether the motor has run counts much more, though the proportion counts too, rather than the litres.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct scenarios, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if your fuel system has had that mix drawn through it.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove it. What now?

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then switch off and keep it off.

Driving is what takes the issue from your tank into your pump and injectors — but it's salvageable a lot more regularly than motorists expect, and the single most valuable thing you can do now isn't restart the vehicle.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

It is not a change, so a drain then flush carried out properly does not cancel a manufacturer's warranty.

Another reason to leave it switched off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

Two-stroke oil solves a different issue, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

The pump still has to put up with it, as your tank still has petrol in it after that.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

You do not need one. The vehicle is drained and flushed wherever it is, with no need to bring it to a franchised dealer.

## You, and your vehicle, still together?

Leave the car switched off.

Switch it off somewhere safe and keep it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold, still, going nowhere: that's the best position to be in. Motorists fear this far more than they need to.

At the roadside, on the forecourt or at home — call-out fuel draining around Hirwaun and across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
