# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Hockley

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled vehicles where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, across Hockley and the remainder of Cheshire. The very first thing to do is not to fire up the motor. When your engine has not yet turned over and the petrol is still sitting in your tank, a drain is nearly always all it needs, and the coming few minutes determine that, not how much was put in.

Phone and our engineers will explain what follows next before you try much else.

## Your first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- Do not crank it — and do not trust it if it starts. That is the part most people get wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. A petrol engine filled with diesel typically just will not run, and so the motorist stops and the wear halts with them. A diesel fed petrol typically starts, ticks over and moves off without complaint for a couple of miles. It's not okay. It is grinding that fuel system while you drive.

- Two things, diesel: it burns, and on the way through it keeps your high-pressure fuel pump and injectors protected. Petrol only does the one. That is why the car's ignition is left off as well — switch it on and you commonly prime your system, and that is petrol leaving the tank for precisely those parts.

- Topping up takes out nothing. It leaves you a larger tank of the same mix, because a diesel fuel system will not tolerate petrol by percentage in the way that advice implies — so don't add diesel on top to thin it. Octane is beside the point too: super unleaded is petrol.

- Stay still if it is safe to. Hazards on, ignition off, leave the car. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Hepley Road, anywhere — an awkward place for us trumps a started engine, and nothing is quicker for us to sort than a motor that never moved.

- Before you call, work out your location. Anything nearest to you with a name on it, plus a postcode beginning SK12 1 — that's what settles whether the technician shows up or circles.

- What got in, about how many litres, plus whether the engine has run — these three answers settle your whole job. Phone 0333 366 0103 then tell us.

Never drive it home. The drive in has already forced a real volume of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of your Renault Megane, and the trip back would roughly double it for no gain at all. Call us from the platform if that's simpler. Our engineers don't need you hovering over the vehicle at Middlewood while our engineers get it done, and our team would much rather talk to you tonight than discover on Monday.

## Can petrol be taken out of your diesel at the forecourt?

Pumps are where this job often starts, and where a big part of it closes.

Our technicians work on petrol station forecourts routinely, with the owner's agreement, and so if you're still at Esso that's normally where this drain takes place.

The forecourt is the one spot this is spotted before your engine has run.

Our engineers can still put it right where it sits, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a drive or in a lay-by, the car has been switched on and driven there, and that pulled fuel through your filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump, all the way from that tank. None of that is a disaster, but the flush then has to go past the tank to the lines and the fuel filter, and the few seconds between reading your receipt and going for the keys are what determine that.

The staff will usually offer to wheel the car away from the petrol pump so the next customer can get through. That is worth doing.

Firing it just to shift four vehicle lengths is not.

The awkward part is the bay, not the fuel. Vehicles either side of you, a trolley shelter behind, and from time to time a height limit on the way in that determines whether a van can reach you at all — so when you call from a car park like the one outside Waitrose, tell us how much clearance there's around you and which way round the vehicle is. Those we visit often. Should there be no space to work next to your diesel BMW 3 Series, it gets shifted with the motor off, and not out of fussiness over a couple of seconds of running: priming takes place at every start, more of the mix leaves the tank for your pump, and two shunts into a nicer bay have quietly made a worse job of what was simply a vehicle sitting still.

## Parts we cover near Hockley

Being a residential suburb, Hockley has a steady call, whilst the places nearby come with it on that same trip: Wardsend and Higher Poynton, Midway and Poynton, Middlewood.

There are separate pages for nearly all places in Cheshire, and the ones listed above are simply the closest neighbours — so yours being missing from this list tells you nothing whatsoever about if our engineers come.

Call us and check rather than guessing — boundaries above all, and wherever a satnav may get wrong.

This map is the patch the page covers.

Kerbside, forecourt, drive, car park: every bit of that is ground our engineers cover, and none of it asks your car to move to us.

A diesel pump delivers fuel on demand, and a hurried morning dash needs plenty — so three miles in the Ford Focus seems like nothing and isn't. Twenty to nine by Worth Primary School, running late, the receipt in your hand saying unleaded: hazards on, ignition off, ring us.

## Kerbside breakdowns in Hockley

Some people have no safe spot to pull in at all.

If you worked it out after setting off and landed by the verge on Coppice Road, or in a lay-by somewhere with the hazards going, that's a common call for us instead of a rare one.

Clear of the motor if it's not wise to be inside, with it if it is.

Never restart your engine to nurse the car somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will often oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling the mix further into the system.

However inconvenient the location, it's no trouble for us to get to it, and that is much better for the vehicle than pressing on.

The parts that should be getting oiled are grinding instead, and the car gives no sign of that: a diesel on a weakened tank starts and drives off perfectly well. Chance the journey home from Farmers Arms? Don't. Phone then leave the Mercedes C-Class where it is.

## Petrol in a diesel, but the vehicle has rolled

Your M60 is the road which matters now, and lies under 10 miles from Hockley.

It will often get you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it's smoke, a rough idle and power falling away — not a tidy stop. Misfuelled diesels seldom give you one of those.

Never restart it to reposition. Come off at the first safe junction and turn off.

Long drive? Anything near the under 15 miles to the nearest city and you should presume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it reached by the mixture. Say that on the call, because it alters what goes in the van.

Pull in somewhere sensible, switch off then ring us. Happy on the way out to Davenport Golf Club, flat on the way back? Then look at that tank. Petrol dilutes diesel; thinner fuel seeps past the precision components that build injection pressure; and the farther the diesel Peugeot 3008 drove, the less of that pressure it held.

## About Hockley

Hockley is a suburban area in Cheshire, situated on the riverside with an elevation of around 121 metres. Hockley lies near several neighbouring communities, including Wardsend, Higher Poynton, and Midway, and is located approximately 10.8 miles from Manchester. Hockley is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its residential nature. Hockley is also relatively distant from London, at around 151.9 miles away.

## The job in Hockley, step by step

- Our technicians ask first, quote after. What got in? How much? Has the motor run? Those responses alter what the work really is.

- The tainted mixture comes out of the tank.

- What is left in your system should not be what started the problem, so your fuel lines get rinsed and the filter cleared.

- Your system gets primed, on fresh diesel.

- When it is started, we check it runs smoothly on fresh diesel.

At that point it's ready to drive away.

Long-term damage is very rare when it has been caught soon, and because everything is done where the vehicle is, it never needs to be taken to a workshop.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank by mistake, around Hockley?

The fault isn't the same, though the opening step is — do not fire it up — if what went in was AdBlue rather than petrol.

Weakened diesel, and no lubrication left for the fuel system that depends on it. That's petrol.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it causes rust and deposits instead.

Frequently the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the full story sits on its own Hockley page. Both are ours to handle.

## Hockley pricing for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

One price would not be honest here, since this is not one job. These are the things that shift it:

- Whether the motor has been run or driven. This is the main one.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, set against how much your tank can hold.

- Whether it is unleaded or AdBlue.

- Where the car is, and whether a van can sensibly reach and work on it.

A straight answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: the vehicle, the amount, and if it has run.

Car at home, going nowhere, nothing time-critical about it — is good for that.

## Petrol in diesel: everyday questions around Hockley

## At a petrol station around Hockley, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes — forecourts are where a large part of this takes place.

Consent from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like BP is somewhere we are frequently, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the call and you'll hear whether working there is possible.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

It depends on the proportion instead of the litres, and much more on whether the motor has run.

Five litres into an almost dry tank is not five into a full one, no. But both land on the same question in the end: has that blend been sucked right through, or has it not?

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it

Switch off somewhere sensible, and keep it that way after you stop.

Driving is what shifts the trouble from that tank into your pump and injectors — but it's fixable far more regularly than people expect, and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart the car.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty withstands a drain then flush done to a proper standard, which is no modification at all.

An argument over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?

What petrol has diluted is not restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old workaround for a separate issue. So no.

Afterwards? Still petrol in your tank, and a pump that has to live with the stuff.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — necessary?

Not at all. Our technicians drain and flush the vehicle wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a dealership.

## You, and the car, still together?

Do not switch the engine back on.

If you have already driven it, stop somewhere sensible, turn it off then leave it off.

Cold, stationary, going nowhere: that's the best position to be in. Motorists fear this much more than they need to.

Call-out fuel draining in Hockley and across Cheshire — at the roadside, on the forecourt or at home.
