# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Hyde Park?

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled vehicles where they are, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway, across Hyde Park and the remainder of South Yorkshire. The very first thing to do is not to fire up the motor. While the motor has not been started and the fuel is still inside that tank, a tank drain is almost always all it takes, and the coming few minutes decide that, not how much got in.

We will tell you what your next step will be. Ring us — that goes before anything else.

## The next five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Do not fire it up. Fired up anyway? Then don't believe it. Diesel in a petrol vehicle generally won't run, and so the motorist stops and the damage halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It pulls away normally, for several miles. Drivers get that muddled. It's not fine — that fuel system is wearing down every mile you do.

- Switching your ignition on usually primes the system, and priming is what moves petrol out of the tank and into your pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps protected on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol handles the burning and none of the protecting. Leave the car's ignition be.

- Don't put diesel on top to water down it. A diesel fuel system will not tolerate petrol by percentage the way that advice suggests, and topping up clears nothing — it merely gives you a larger tank of the same mixture. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is still petrol.

- Wait where you are if you reasonably can. A vehicle that has never shifted is the simplest one to sort, and we'd rather travel to a difficult spot than have it started. If you're parked on the verge on College Road, switch your hazards on and leave the car there.

- Know where you are before calling. A postcode beginning DN1 3, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise the technician circles instead of showing up.

- Ring 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three things — what went in, approximately how much, and whether the motor has been turned over. Your replies decide everything that comes after.

The journey back would close to double it, for no purpose at all. One commute has already put a real amount of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of your Volkswagen Golf. So leave it where it sits. Phone us from the platform if that is quicker — no one needs you hovering over the vehicle at Doncaster while we work, and tonight beats finding out on Monday.

## Can petrol be taken out of a diesel at a forecourt?

A good portion of this job is completed at the pump, because that is where it often kicks off.

The drain normally happens right there. Still on the forecourt at Esso? Given the owner's permission, that is a spot our technicians work, and regularly.

At a forecourt, the mistake gets caught with your motor never run, and no place else manages it.

We can still deal with it where it is, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a drive or in a lay-by, your car has been started and moved there, and that pulled fuel through the filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, all the way from the tank. None of that is a calamity, though the flush then has to go past the tank to the fuel lines and the filter, and the few seconds between seeing the receipt and reaching for your key are what decide that.

The staff will normally happily roll it clear of the petrol pump so the next motorist can get through. That is worth doing.

Four car lengths isn't worth a restart.

If you've put petrol in your diesel BMW 3 Series around Hyde Park and you are now sat at Sainsbury's with a boot full of shopping, call us. Do not start it again to leave the space. Our technicians will come out to you, clear your tank, rinse your fuel lines and put fresh diesel in so you can head home. A mile or so at easy throttle uses little diesel, so such jobs tend to be the straightforward cases.

## Coverage around Hyde Park

Hyde Park is a residential suburb, and so our vans are out to the town and to the areas near it on the usual rounds: Doncaster, Belle Vue, Hexthorpe, Wheatley and Newton.

If yours isn't on this list that does not mean we do not come — there are dedicated pages for the majority of places in South Yorkshire, and the ones named above are merely the immediate neighbours.

Ring us to ask rather than presuming, especially where you are on a boundary or anywhere the satnav struggles with.

Look at this map for the area included here.

Roadside, forecourt, drive, car park: all of it is territory our engineers cover, and none of that requires the car to come to us.

## Hyde Park: stranded where you stopped

The opportunity to pull in anywhere sensible does not fall to everybody.

If you noticed after setting off and landed by the verge of Trafford Way, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards going, that's a normal call for us instead of a rare one.

Stay with your car when it is safe to sit inside, yet out of the vehicle if it is not.

It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that's the catch: start it up to reach somewhere better and the mixture goes further into the system with every mile travelled.

Carrying on does the vehicle far more harm than a van driving out to a difficult location, and that's no problem for us.

## Driven it already? Stop, then see this

The local A1(M) is the road which counts here, and it sits under 3 miles from Hyde Park.

A misfilled diesel will often get you onto it and some way along before anything seems wrong, and the signs when they arrive are typically a drop in power, an uneven idle and smoke rather than a tidy stop.

The first sensible junction is the one to take. Turn off there, and leave the restarting alone.

It affects what we bring, so say so when you ring: on a longer run — anything approaching the under a mile to the nearest city — take it the petrol has been through the filter, your pump and the injectors.

Pull in somewhere sensible, switch off and ring us. Normal on the way out to Elmfield Park, gutless on the way back? Then look at the tank. Petrol thins diesel; runnier fuel leaks past the close-fitting components that build injection pressure; and the further your diesel Dacia Duster drove, the less of that pressure it held.

## About Hyde Park

Hyde Park is a suburban area in South Yorkshire, situated on the riverside near the town centre of Doncaster. Hyde Park has a relatively low elevation of 23 metres and is located close to several nearby places, including Belle Vue and Hexthorpe. Hyde Park is predominantly composed of flat housing, which is typical of many urban areas in the region.

## When our technicians arrive with you in Hyde Park: what we do

- Our technicians check what was put in, how much, and whether the motor has run. The answers change the work, which is why our technicians ask before giving a price.

- The tank is drained completely.

- What is left in the fuel system should not be what created the trouble, and so the fuel lines get cleaned and the fuel filter cleaned.

- Clean diesel goes in, and then the system gets primed.

- It's started with clean diesel in it, and we check that it is running correctly.

That has your car ready to drive away.

We do all of it wherever the vehicle has stopped, which means it never has to go to a workshop, and if it has been spotted quickly, it's very rare for there to be lasting damage.

Why we are blunt about not driving on: your pump sits before the fuel injectors, so whatever a worn-out pump loses moves on with your fuel. Leave the Audi A6 close to National Progressive Spiritualist Church and ring us.

## A distinct matter: AdBlue in a diesel tank in Hyde Park

The problem is not the same, though the first rule is — never start it — if what was put in was AdBlue instead of petrol.

The protection a fuel system depends on gets taken away by petrol, which thins your diesel.

Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that brings rust and residue.

Both are ours. There is a separate Hyde Park page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.

The smaller petrol nozzle fits a newer diesel filler neck with almost no resistance at all, which makes this mechanical rather than sloppy. Unfamiliar spots see most of that for that reason. So: filled up near Sri Guru Kalgidhar Gurdwara without thinking, in a diesel Ford Kuga you have had for two days? Call us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars tend to get driven further before anybody notices, and distance determines how much petrol reaches the fuel injectors.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain costs in Hyde Park

Frankly, no single price belongs on a page like this. The job differs. Here is what moves it:

- This is the main one: whether the engine has been started, or driven.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, measured against how much your tank can hold.

- Which was put in: unleaded or AdBlue.

- Whether our van can sensibly reach the vehicle and work on it, which rests on where your car is.

The car, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight and not as a range.

Vehicle at home, going nowhere, nothing urgent about it — is good for that.

## Petrol in diesel: frequent questions in Hyde Park

## I'm on a forecourt around Hyde Park. Can you drain the vehicle here?

A large part of this work takes place there, so yes.

We visit Shell and the other forecourts locally regularly, with the owner's consent — tell us which one you're at when you ring and we'll tell you if our technicians can work there.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

It rests on the ratio rather than the litres, and far more on whether your engine has run.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct situations, certainly. Either way, the work required comes down to one thing, which is whether your fuel system has had that mix pulled through it.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove it. What now?

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then switch off and keep it off.

Driving takes the issue along — out of that tank, into the pump and injectors. Motorists fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly useful thing left to you isn't restarting it.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A drain then flush carried out correctly isn't a modification and does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

Another reason to leave it switched off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause an argument with one.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

No. It belongs to a separate issue from a bygone era, and petrol has thinned something no oil of that kind restores.

Afterwards? Still petrol in your tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

Not at all. Our technicians drain and flush the car wherever it is, so there is no need to take it to a dealership.

## Waiting next to it?

Your engine remains off.

Switch it off somewhere sensible then keep it off, if you have already driven it.

A stationary, cold vehicle is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from a lot more regularly than people assume.

Call-out fuel draining around Hyde Park and across South Yorkshire — at the kerbside, on the forecourt or at home.
