# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Kiln Farm? Don't Start It

With your tank still carrying the petrol and your engine not yet turned over, nearly every job takes only a drain, so keep the engine off. That outcome is settled in the minutes immediately after filling up, rather than by the amount that was put in. Throughout Kiln Farm and the rest of Buckinghamshire, Petrol in Diesel drains the vehicle and cleans it where it stands, whether at a roadside, on a private drive or at a forecourt.

Just one ring to us will be enough: our technicians will show you what comes from here. Make that straight away.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do first

- Give a petrol motor diesel and it will generally refuse to run at all, so the driver stops there and so does the damage. Give a diesel petrol and the engine starts, it ticks over, it pulls away — fine enough for a couple of miles. Most people have that muddled, which is the bit they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So don't start it. And once started, don't rely on it: your fuel system is grinding while you drive.

- Two jobs, diesel: it ignites, and on the way through it keeps your high-pressure fuel pump and injectors oiled. Petrol only handles the one. Which is why the car's ignition remains off also — switch it on and you often prime your system, and that's petrol leaving your tank for just those parts.

- That advice supposes a diesel fuel system handles petrol by percentage. It doesn't. Tip diesel on top and nothing at all is removed; what you get is a larger tank of the same blend. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is simply petrol.

- A vehicle that has not shifted is the simplest one to sort out, and so remain where you are if you sensibly can. Stopped on the verge on V4 Watling Street? Hazards on, then leave the vehicle there. An odd location works for us better than a started motor.

- Before you call, gather your position. Anything nearest to you with a label on it, plus a postcode that starts MK11 3 — that is what settles whether the van shows up or circles.

- Dial 0333 366 0103. Say what went in, approximately how many litres, and if the car has started. Those three facts determine the entire job.

Never drive it home. Petrol-thinned diesel has gone through the high-pressure fuel pump in real quantity on the trip in, and the trip back would close to double that for nothing at all. Phone us — the platform is okay. There is no need to stand over the Skoda Octavia outside Wolverton whilst the work gets done, and our team would far rather speak to you tonight than learn on Monday.

## Draining petrol from your diesel at the forecourt

Much of the work starts at the pump, meaning a big part of it is completed on site.

Still at BP? Then that's usually where it happens. Garage forecourts are everyday for us, with the consent of the site.

At a garage, this gets caught with your motor never started, and no place else does that.

The few seconds between reading your receipt and reaching for the keys determine how much needs rinsing. Everywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — your car was switched on and driven to get there, so fuel was pulled from your tank, through the filter then into the high-pressure pump. That means your lines and the filter require cleaning as well as your tank. It's not a catastrophe, and our engineers can still sort it out where your car stands.

Clear of the petrol pump, the next customer can get past — so yes, let the staff help you push the car. Very much worth doing.

Shifting the car four lengths does not merit starting the motor.

## Coverage near Kiln Farm

Fullers Slade, Hodge Lea, Two Mile Ash, Upper Weald, Middle Weald — all of them on the rounds that take us over to Kiln Farm too, a residential suburb.

We do come. The names above are only the immediate neighbours, and a page exists for most towns in Buckinghamshire, so an absence from the list isn't an absence from our coverage.

Contact us and enquire rather than assuming, above all when you are on a border or somewhere your satnav can't find.

That map marks the ground the page includes.

The car does not need to come to us. We operate throughout every bit of it — roadside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

A diesel pump meters fuel on demand, and a hurried morning dash needs plenty — so three miles in the Dacia Duster feels like nothing and isn't. Twenty to nine outside Fairfields Primary School, running late, a receipt in your hand reading unleaded: hazards on, motor off, phone.

## Stranded at the kerbside in Kiln Farm

Not everyone has a chance to pull over anywhere suitable.

Hazards going at a lay-by somewhere, or stopped on the verge of Tilers Road because you realised after setting off — we take that call so often that it is the ordinary kind.

Clear of the vehicle if it's not wise to be there, beside it when it is.

Do not start up the engine to limp the vehicle somewhere better — a diesel running on petrol will often oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling that mix further into the system.

However tricky the place, it is no bother for us to come to it, and that's a lot better for your car than driving on.

## Run it already? Pull over, and read this

under 5 miles out of Kiln Farm, the M1 is what counts now.

Lost power, a lumpy idle, smoke: those are the symptoms when they arrive, instead of a clean stop — and a misfilled diesel will usually take you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong at all.

Pull off at the first safe junction, switch off, and don't start the vehicle to reposition.

Long run? Anything near the under 3 miles to the nearest city and you should suppose the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it arrived at by the contamination. Say that on the phone, as it alters what goes in the van.

## All about Kiln Farm

Kiln Farm is a suburban area located on the outskirts of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, situated near the River Great Ouse at an elevation of around 90 metres. Kiln Farm sits in close proximity to nearby places such as Fullers Slade and Hodge Lea, and is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock. Kiln Farm is also within commuting distance to London, approximately 47 miles away.

## What our technicians do when our technicians reach you in Kiln Farm

- Our engineers ask first, price after. What was put in? How much? Has your motor run? Those responses alter what the work actually is.

- We drain the tank of all the polluted fuel.

- Lines cleaned, filter cleared. Whatever remains later on isn't the thing that caused the issue.

- Bleeding your system follows, once clean diesel is in.

- Your engine is fired up and checked to be sure it runs properly on fresh diesel.

That has your car ready to pull away.

All of it is done where your car is, so it never has to go to a workshop, and when it has been caught quickly, permanent damage is very uncommon.

About as well as this goes, once your engine has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and your diesel BMW 1 Series parked near Ramgarhia Sabha Gurdwara hardly two streets on. Ring us, then leave the car off. A short hop does genuinely help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, and so your filter and your pump have had thinned fuel through them — hence purging the lines rather than only emptying that tank.

## Kiln Farm AdBlue removal is a separate problem

If what got in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the opening instruction is the same — never start it — but this issue isn't.

Petrol does two things to diesel: weakens it, and removes the lubrication the fuel system relies on.

Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that brings rust and deposits.

Often the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Kiln Farm page. Both are ours to deal with.

Hire car? Company car? Phone them before us. Some agreements want the firm to approve the work, and that is much quicker dealt with up front than afterwards. Then call us about the Citroen C3, the diesel one, near MK Springers Gymnastics Club. Do not worry that you can't say how full the tank was — almost nobody can two days into a motor, and it's something we work out there. The reason for asking: damage from petrol in a diesel is a matter of proportion. A few litres in an almost empty tank make a far stronger blend than in a full one, and petrol is built to resist the very thing a diesel needs of it, which is igniting when compressed. Stronger mixture, more knocking, more smoke, flatter throttle.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain costs around Kiln Farm

Truthfully, no single price fits on a page like this. The job differs. Here's what changes it:

- Whether the motor has been started or driven. This is the key one.

- How much of the wrong fuel got in, compared with how much that tank can hold.

- Whether it was unleaded or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a van reach it and work there safely?

Tell us your car, the quantity and whether it has run, and you will get a straight answer instead of a range.

Not urgent, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then does the job.

The filter, the fuel lines, the pump and its rail: that is where that mix is once a diesel has run, and it doesn't come back out with that tank contents. So your tank isn't where most of the problem sits by this point, and a diesel Renault Captur that got close to Fairfields Sports Hub needs the circuit cleared instead of emptied.

## Petrol in diesel: frequent questions around Kiln Farm

## At a petrol station around Kiln Farm, can you do a fuel drain there?

A good share of this work happens there, so yes.

Routinely, provided the site consents: Shell, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether we can work in that spot is something our technicians answer there and then.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Litres are not the yardstick. Ratio is, and much more than either, it matters if anything has been run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different situations, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the fuel system has had that blend drawn through it.

## I drove the vehicle after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most useful thing available to you now. Driving does move the problem out of the tank then into your pump and injectors, yes, and it stays recoverable far more commonly than people fear.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

It is not a modification, and so a drain and flush carried out correctly does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

Another good reason to leave it switched off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause an argument with one.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

No. Two-stroke oil is an old workaround for a distinct issue and it does not replace what petrol has thinned.

The pump still has to live with it, as the tank still has petrol in it after that.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

There's no need to take it to a franchised dealer, because our engineers drain and flush the car wherever it is.

## Waiting next to it?

That engine stays off.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, switch off, then let the vehicle remain that way.

This is recoverable from much more frequently than motorists expect, and a parked, cold car is the best place to be in.

Emptying misfilled motors, Kiln Farm and the rest of Buckinghamshire, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
