# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Kingseat?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes misfuelled cars where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive, all over Kingseat and the remainder of Fife. The very first thing to do is not to start your engine. While the motor has not been started and the fuel is still in that tank, a drain is almost always all it needs, and the coming few minutes determine that, not how much got in.

Contact us before anything else happens, so you'll know what happens from there.

## What next? Petrol in a diesel, in order

- Give a petrol engine diesel and it will typically not run at all, and so the person stops there and so does the wear. Feed a diesel petrol and the car starts, it ticks over, it moves off — all right for several miles. Most people have that backwards, which is the part they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So never fire it up. And once started, never trust it: the fuel system is wearing whenever you drive.

- Leave the ignition alone as well. Diesel has two tasks: it combusts, and before it ignites it lubricates your high-pressure pump and its injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Flicking the ignition on is frequently sufficient to prime the system, which pulls that petrol out of the tank and into exactly those parts.

- Don't weaken it. Diesel put on top removes nothing, so all you get is more of what was already there, since percentage is not how a diesel fuel system copes with petrol. Super unleaded? Just petrol. The grade makes no difference.

- We'd sooner come to an odd spot than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay put. Nothing is easier to deal with than a car that has not moved. On the verge on Church Street, that means hazards on and keep it.

- A van showing up rather than circling hinges on two things: a postcode beginning KY12 0, and whatever is nearest to you with a label on it. Keep both prepared before you dial.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Expect three queries — what got in, roughly how much, plus if the motor has been run. Those answers decide whatever happens next.

Ring us before you collect it. Petrol into a diesel Volkswagen Golf this morning, and the vehicle at Dunfermline Queen Margaret ever since? Then the afternoon has taken nothing from you: fuel in a tank is harmless, and any harm was done on the journey in, when your pump was drawing diesel that petrol had diluted.

## Draining petrol from a diesel at a forecourt

Much of this work begins at a forecourt, which means a good chunk of that is finished at one.

Our technicians work on station forecourts all the time, with the site's permission, so if you are still at Asda that is generally where the drain gets done.

Before your engine has run — a forecourt is the single location this is spotted.

Our technicians can still put it right where it stands, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a private drive or in a lay-by, the car has been fired up and driven there, and that pulled fuel through the fuel filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, right from your tank. None of that is a disaster, though the flush then has to reach past the tank to the lines and the filter, and the few seconds between checking the receipt and going for your key are what determine that.

Away from the pump, the next driver can get through — so yes, let the staff help you roll the vehicle. Very much worth doing.

Cranking the car just to roll four car lengths isn't.

Our technicians will head your way, drain your tank, rinse the fuel lines and put clean diesel in so you can drive home. So if petrol went into your diesel Renault Megane in Kingseat and you are sat at Asda with a boot packed with shopping, call us — and do not fire it up a second time to get out of the space. A mile or so at easy throttle uses very little fuel, so these are usually the simple jobs.

## Kingseat and the areas next to it

Kingseat is a rural village, and so our technicians are out to it and to the villages near it on the same rounds: Halbeath, Townhill, Touch, Hill of Beath and Crossgates.

If yours isn't on this list it doesn't mean we do not come — there are pages for most locations across Fife, and the ones listed above are merely the immediate neighbours.

Presuming is the habit to avoid, particularly on the boundary or anywhere your phone gets lost. Phone and check.

Use our map for the ground shown on this page.

All of that is ground our engineers serve: a kerbside, a forecourt, a driveway, a car park. You never bring the car anywhere.

## Stranded at the kerb somewhere around Kingseat?

Not everyone has the opportunity to stop somewhere safe.

If you realised after setting off and landed along the verge beside Frew Place, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards on, that's a routine call for us rather than an unusual one.

Okay right there? Remain by it. Not fine? Step out and away from it.

Never restart the engine to nurse it somewhere better — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is drawing that blend further into the system.

A technician coming to a tricky location is no bother for us, and it's much better for your car than driving on.

## Run it already? Pull in, and see this

This is where your M90 comes in — under a mile from Kingseat.

It will usually get you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it's some smoke, an uneven idle and power ebbing away — not a clean stop. Misfuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

The first safe exit is the one to take. Switch off there, then leave the restarting alone.

Assume the worst of it on a long trip. Anything approaching the under 3 miles to the closest city, and the contamination has been through your filter, through your pump, through the fuel injectors. Say so when you ring. What our engineers bring alters.

Sitting still, it gets no worse. Your pump is not turning, so whatever occurred on the way to Kingseat Community Garden in that diesel Ford Focus is finished happening. Time is yours. Just do not take it home on your engine to find more of it.

## About Kingseat

Kingseat is a small village in Fife, situated inland at an elevation of 163 metres, approximately 2.9 miles from Dunfermline. Kingseat has a population of around 822 people, with predominantly detached housing. Kingseat is close to nearby places such as Halbeath, Townhill, and Touch, and is located about 344 miles north of London.

## Once we reach you around Kingseat: what follows

- Our engineers ask first, quote after. What got in? How much? Has your motor run? Those replies shape what the work really is.

- The polluted fuel is pulled from the tank.

- Our engineers flush the lines and clean the filter, so what's remaining in the fuel system isn't what started the issue.

- Our engineers put clean diesel in and prime the system.

- It's run with clean diesel in it, and our engineers make sure that it is running properly.

That leaves it ready to set off.

Long-term damage is very unusual when it has been noticed soon, and because all of this is done where the car is, it never needs to go to a workshop.

Three things help when you phone from near Kingseat's Mining Heritage Memorial: which side the filler is on, whether our van can park alongside without blocking the road, and if the engine has run since you filled up. On-street is the most common place our engineers work, so the location itself is rarely the trouble — we would much rather deal with a cramped parking spot than with a vehicle that has been driven to somewhere more convenient. We'll drain your Mercedes E-Class, change the fuel filter where there's a usable one, flush the lines then put clean fuel through the whole circuit, as by this point the worst of it is sitting in your lines instead of in your tank.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Kingseat is a distinct job

Don't start it: that first step stands whether what got in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is this fault itself.

The lubrication a fuel system depends on gets stripped away by petrol, which dilutes the diesel.

Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes corrosion and deposits.

Both are ours. There's a separate Kingseat page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

## What a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain will cost around Kingseat

Honestly, no single figure fits on a page like this. This job differs. Here is what moves it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, judged against how much your tank can hold.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever went in.

- Where the car is, and if our van can safely get to and work on it.

Tell us what your vehicle is, how much went in, and if your motor has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range.

For the vehicle at home that is going nowhere and is not pressing, is fine too.

It got a couple of streets and stopped. The throttle went limp, your idle turned lumpy, and the diesel Vauxhall Astra is now resting by Kingseat Parish Church. That softness is the fuel failing to build pressure correctly instead of your engine packing up — and because there's no warning light for it, cars in that position generally get driven a second time before anybody phones. Do not. Turn it off then phone us.

## Kingseat drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Kingseat?

A fair part of this work gets done there, so yes.

Our engineers work at Thames and the other forecourts around town routinely, with the owner's agreement — tell us which one you are at when you phone and we'll tell you whether we can work there.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Proportion settles it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different situations, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if the system has had that mix sucked through it.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?

Stop safely. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving is what shifts the issue from the tank into your pump and injectors — but it is salvageable much more often than people expect, and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart the vehicle.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

No. Carried out properly, draining and purging is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is unaffected by it.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one, which is another reason to leave it turned off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a different problem and it does not restore what petrol has diluted.

Afterwards? Still petrol in your tank, and a pump that has to put up with the stuff.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

Wherever the car is, our engineers drain and flush it there, so a trip to the main dealer does not come into it.

## Is your vehicle still with you?

That engine remains off.

If you have already driven it, stop somewhere sensible, switch it off and keep it off.

Cold, parked, going nowhere: that's the best place to be in. Drivers fear this a lot more than they need to.

At the roadside, on the forecourt or at home — call-out fuel draining around Kingseat and across Fife.
