# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Kirkconnel

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled vehicles where they sit, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway, throughout Kirkconnel and the remainder of Dumfries and Galloway. The first thing to do is not to start your engine. When the engine has not yet run and the petrol is still inside your tank, a drain is almost always all it needs, and the next few minutes determine that, not how much got in.

Ring us and then our engineers shall tell you what comes next before you try any more.

## The first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- As you drive, the pump and your injectors suffer. This is why you don't fire it up, and why you don't depend on it once it has started. The trick about petrol in a diesel specifically — the bit most people get wrong — is that it drives away normally for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol motor generally cannot run at all, which stops the motorist and stops the damage with them. This one lets you keep going.

- Diesel ignites, and before it combusts it greases — the high-pressure fuel pump, its injectors. Petrol manages only the burning. So leave the ignition be too: switching it on is commonly enough to prime that system, and priming draws petrol from that tank into precisely those parts.

- Do not put diesel on top to weaken it. A diesel fuel system doesn't cope with petrol by percentage the way that guidance presumes, and topping up takes out nothing — it only leaves you a bigger tank of the same mix. The type makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.

- Stay where you are if you safely can. A car that hasn't moved is the easiest one to sort, and we'd much rather travel to a difficult location than have it started. If you're parked on the verge on Glengaber Avenue, switch the hazards on then leave the vehicle there.

- Our van arriving rather than circling depends on two things: a postcode beginning DG4 6, and whatever is next to you with a label on it. Have both ready before you call.

- Ring 0333 366 0103. Prepare for three points — what was put in, about how many litres, and whether the motor has been run. The answers settle everything that comes after.

Petrol in a diesel Volkswagen Golf, sat outside the nearest station since breakfast? The wait has lost you nothing — fuel in a tank is idle. It was the journey in that sucked thinned diesel through the pump. Call us before you collect the car.

## On a forecourt: removing petrol from a diesel

The work begins at a forecourt, mostly. Quite often the job finishes on site as well.

The drain usually takes place on the spot. Still on the forecourt at Burnside? Given the site's agreement, that is a spot we work, and routinely.

No place except a forecourt can the mistake be halted with your engine still unstarted.

Anywhere else — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was switched on and moved to get there, which means fuel was drawn from that tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump. That's not a disaster, and we can still sort it out where it stands. It does mean the lines and the fuel filter need cleaning as well as that tank, and that's decided by the few seconds between seeing your receipt and going for your key.

Wheel the vehicle out of the way if the attendants volunteer, and they usually will. The next driver gets through the pump, and that's worth doing.

Rolling it four lengths does not justify cranking it.

If you have put petrol in the diesel Skoda Octavia around Kirkconnel and you're now sat outside Co-op Food - Kelloholm with a boot full of shopping, phone us. Do not start the vehicle once more to get out of the bay. Our technicians will come to you, clear that tank, purge the fuel lines and put new diesel in so you can head home. A mile or so at light throttle uses very little diesel, so such jobs are usually the straightforward ones.

## Do our engineers serve your part of Kirkconnel?

Kelloholm, Crawick, Sanquhar, Mennock, Afton Bridgend — every one of those on the runs that take us over to Kirkconnel too, a village.

Not on the list? It means nothing. The names above are just the nearest few, and nearly all places in Dumfries and Galloway have a page of their own elsewhere on the site.

Presuming is the thing to skip, especially on a boundary or anywhere a satnav gets lost. Call us and enquire.

The patch this page includes is on our map.

Our technicians work at the roadside, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks over all of that, and the car doesn't need to come to us.

## Kerbside stops in Kirkconnel

Not everyone gets a decent spot to stop.

A normal call for us and not an unusual one: worked out after setting off, landed by the verge beside Greystone Avenue or in a lay-by with the hazards on.

Wait with the car if it is safe to sit there, yet out of the vehicle when it's not.

It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that is the trouble: start it up to reach somewhere better and that blend goes further into your fuel system with every mile driven.

A technician heading to an awkward place is no bother for us, and it's a lot better for the vehicle than carrying on.

Simple job, this one — till someone takes it home. A diesel Audi A4 parked outside the pub in the village with petrol in your tank loses nothing by sitting there overnight, so park the vehicle and phone once it's light. Expect a query about that trip there, though. Short and chilly is precisely where petrol struggles to burn, and what won't burn can get past the piston rings then into the engine oil.

## Already run it? Petrol in a diesel over a few miles

Here is where your A74(M) comes into it — under 15 miles away from Kirkconnel.

Some distance along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will frequently manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is seldom a neat stop. Power falls away, the idle turns rough, and there may be some smoke.

The next sensible junction is the one to take. Turn off there, and leave the restarting alone.

On a longer trip — anything near the under 50 miles to the closest city — take it the contamination has been through the filter, the pump and your injectors, and mention it when you ring. It affects what we bring.

## A bit about Kirkconnel

Kirkconnel is a village situated on the banks of the River Nith in Dumfries and Galloway, with a mix of semi-detached housing and other residential properties. Kirkconnel sits at an elevation of 162 metres, surrounded by rolling countryside and nearby villages such as Kelloholm and Sanquhar. Kirkconnel is located near the town of Sanquhar and is close to the Crawick Multiverse, a popular tourist attraction. Kirkconnel has a population of around 1246 people and is within commuting distance of Glasgow, which is 34.7 miles away.

## What we do when our engineers get to you around Kirkconnel

- Our engineers ask first, quote after. What went in? How much? Has the motor run? Those answers shape what the work actually is.

- Out flows the contaminated fuel.

- What is left in the system shouldn't be what created the issue, so the lines get rinsed and the filter cleared.

- Fresh diesel goes in, and then your system gets primed.

- We fire it up and make sure it runs correctly on new diesel.

The vehicle is then ready for you to drive away.

Lasting damage is very uncommon when it has been spotted soon, and because all of this is done where your car is, it never has to be taken to a workshop.

The pump waits before the injectors, and so whatever a worn-out one sheds travels downstream with the fuel — which is why we are direct about not driving on. Ring us, and leave the diesel Dacia Duster where it's by A-frame Mining Memorial.

## Kirkconnel AdBlue removal is a separate problem

Never crank it: that first step holds whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is the fault itself.

Weakened diesel, and no lubrication left for the fuel system that depends on it. That is petrol.

AdBlue is urea in water, and in a diesel tank it brings corrosion and build-up instead.

Both are ours. There is a separate Kirkconnel page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

## Paying for a petrol-in-diesel drain around Kirkconnel

One figure would not be honest here, because this is not one job. These are the things that change it:

- This is the main one: whether the engine has been run, or driven.

- Wrong fuel in, against what the tank holds — that proportion.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever got in.

- Where is it? And can a technician get to it and work there sensibly?

Tell us the vehicle, the quantity and whether it has run, and you will get a straight answer instead of a range.

Vehicle at home, going nowhere, nothing urgent about it — is fine for that.

It got a few streets and stopped. The throttle went limp, your idle turned lumpy, and the diesel Mercedes E-Class is now sitting near Mine Head Wheel Mining Memorial. That deadness is your fuel failing to build pressure correctly rather than the engine failing — and because there is no warning light for it, cars in that position usually get driven a second time before anyone calls. Please don't. Turn it off then call us.

## Kirkconnel drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Fuel drains on a Kirkconnel petrol station forecourt

Yes, and it's where a big part of this work happens.

Tell us which one you are at when you phone and we will tell you if our engineers can work there. With the station's agreement our technicians attend another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts around town regularly.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Litres aren't the yardstick. Ratio is, and a lot more than either, it counts if anything has been run.

An almost empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: separate scenarios, definitely. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is whether the fuel system has had that mixture drawn through it.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it

Stop safely. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving is what moves the problem from the tank into your pump and injectors — but it's salvageable far more frequently than motorists expect, and the single most useful thing you can do now is not restart the car.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty outlasts a drain and flush done to a proper standard, which is no change at all.

Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

What petrol has diluted is not replaced by two-stroke oil, which is an old fix for a separate issue. So no.

The tank still has petrol in it later on, and your pump still has to live with it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

There is no need to take it to a dealership, as our technicians drain and clean your car wherever it is.

## Still with the vehicle?

Never switch it back on.

Already driven it? Then pull in somewhere sensible, turn off, and let the car remain that way.

Cold, parked, going nowhere: that is the best place to be in. Motorists fear this much more than they need to.

Clearing misfuelled cars, Kirkconnel and the rest of Dumfries and Galloway, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
