# What Happens Now: Petrol in a Diesel Car in Lambridge

Not for a moment, and not for moving it: your engine remains off. Pause there.

The next few minutes determine it more than anything else: petrol in a diesel still unrun generally comes down to emptying and flushing, on the spot.

Here's the order of things from now, anywhere you're around Lambridge.

## Minute one: petrol in a diesel, motor off

In this sequence, all before anything else:

- Ignition off, keys out. Switched on, your ignition can prime the system — and priming is what draws petrol out of the tank towards the parts it damages.

- Do not top it up with diesel. Adding diesel removes nothing. You end up with a bigger tank of the same mix.

- Near passing traffic? Then the hazards come on before everything else, and so your car is easy to see.

- Off the pump by hand. At a forecourt, get the staff to help you roll the vehicle clear of the pump. Do not fire it up to shift it, however short the distance.

- Which fuel, and roughly how much? The receipt answers that, and that is where our first question starts. Never bin it.

If you were still driving when you noticed, stop somewhere sensible instead of pushing on for the services — on the M4, under 10 miles from Lambridge, that means the next junction. Stage one comes next.

## Every Lambridge fuel drain starts here: has the motor run?

What comes next rests on one answer, and just one.

Engine never run at all?

- Nowhere but your tank: that's where that petrol yet is.

- Usually it is drained and cleaned right where your car stands.

- This is the best place to be in, and the whole reason step one matters.

If your motor has run, even briefly:

- Petrol has been pulled out of that tank, past your filter then into the fuel lines.

- On a longer run it has reached the high-pressure fuel pump and your injectors.

- Miles is what turns it into a larger job: flushed lines, a filter seen to, and at times more than that.

That line falls there since diesel protects the high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors on its way through them — and petrol does not.

In that tank, left alone, petrol does no harm.

As soon as it is pumped, petrol starts wearing whatever moves it.

## Before you call about petrol in a diesel in Lambridge: what our engineers need

A technician that circles versus a technician that finds you: a little planning is the difference.

- Where you are. A postcode starting BA1 7 is the best place to start.

- Wherever you have parked, the road's name is useful — whether that's Pitman Court or somewhere else — and so does the name of a car park.

- What a car park serves is the quickest way to find it, so mention the landmark — such as the one at Co-op Food.

- Say what the car is — make, model — and confirm it's diesel.

- What went in. Petrol, or AdBlue. AdBlue is a separate job with its own page for Lambridge, so tell us which.

- About how much — in litres from your receipt, or by how long the nozzle stayed in.

- If it has run, how far and how hard — as well as whether it has run at all.

- Sort who owns the car ahead of when our technicians get there: some hire or company agreements want the owner to approve the work, and that is faster first.

Ring 0333 366 0103 then. Email works as well if it can wait, with the vehicle left at home, going nowhere.

## Lambridge fuel drain on its way? While you wait

Stick to these: kindly meant help causes the damage during the wait.

- Your safety comes before the vehicle. Somewhere unsafe? Get clear of the traffic and wait away from it. Fine where it is? Wait with it.

- A kind passer-by does not crank it. Nor does anyone wanting to check it still does the trick, or rolling it a couple of yards.

- No additives. Two-stroke oil, injector cleaner, anything from your boot — none of that takes that petrol back out.

- No home-made draining. Siphoning petrol into a can by the kerbside is hazardous, and it leaves your fuel that has by now gone beyond that tank.

- Not for the radio, not for your windows: your ignition stays off.

## When the van arrives: your fuel drain, step by step

- First, three queries: which fuel went in, the volume, and has it run? Those replies decide the job, and so our quote follows them.

- Next that tank is cleared, and the tainted fuel is taken out.

- Rinsing the lines follows, because a motor that ran has petrol past the tank, in the fuel lines themselves.

- Cleared, or swapped if the car has a usable one: your filter is sorted next.

- The fuel system is primed on clean diesel.

- First start on new diesel. Once priming is finished, your engine is started and our technicians check that it runs smoothly.

Only once it is running on new diesel do we go.

If it has been caught soon, permanent damage is very rare, and the car goes back to normal use at once.

## After the fuel drain is done: driving around Lambridge once more

- Nothing special is needed after a start with fresh diesel — ordinary driving will do.

- The first miles are the test. A warning lamp, exhaust smoke, a rough idle or a hesitant throttle is your signal to stop then ring us once more.

- An insurer, a fleet manager or a hire firm may ask what was carried out, so keep the documents.

- Next time, go by the petrol pump's label instead of the colour of its handle.
