# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Little Wakering? Don't Start It

Never fire up the motor. If the fuel is still inside the tank and the engine has not been started, a fuel drain is almost always all it requires — and that's determined in the following few minutes, not by how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes misfuelled cars where they stand, all over Little Wakering and the remainder of Essex, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway.

Call us before everything else begins, and you'll hear what comes next.

## Your first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- Never crank it — and do not trust it if it fires up. That is the thing people have wrong about petrol in a diesel especially. A petrol engine filled with diesel typically just won't run, so the motorist stops and the wear stops with them. A diesel fed petrol generally starts, ticks over and pulls away just fine for a few miles. It isn't okay. It is grinding that fuel system while you drive.

- Turning your ignition on frequently primes that system, and priming is what pulls petrol out of your tank and into the pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps lubricated on its way through, before it ignites. Petrol does the burning and none of the lubricating. Leave your ignition be.

- Don't thin it. Diesel tipped on top gets rid of nothing, so all you get is more of what was already there, since percentage is not how a diesel fuel system accepts petrol. Super unleaded? Just petrol. The octane makes no difference.

- Wait where you are if you safely can. A motor that has not shifted is the quickest one to handle, and we'd much rather drive to a tricky location than have it started. If you are stopped on the verge on Little Wakering Road, put your hazards on then keep it there.

- Know where you are before ringing. A postcode starting SS3 0, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the van circles rather than turning up.

- Ring 0333 366 0103. Let us know what got in, roughly how many litres, plus whether the car has fired. Those three facts decide the full call-out.

## Can petrol be taken from your diesel at the forecourt?

The work starts at the pump, typically. Quite often the work finishes on site too.

Still at Asda? Then that is typically where it takes place. Garage forecourts are routine for us, with the consent of the site.

No place other than a garage can the mistake be caught with your engine still cold.

The few seconds between reading the till receipt and going for the key decide how much requires flushing. Anywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the vehicle was switched on and driven to get there, so fuel was sucked from that tank, through the fuel filter and into your high-pressure pump. That means the fuel lines and your filter need flushing as well as that tank. It's not a calamity, and we can still put it right where your car stands.

Away from the petrol pump, the next driver can get by — so yes, let the staff help you wheel it. Well worth doing.

Firing the car for four vehicle lengths? Never.

How much fuel your pump has sucked is what we are actually asking — not how long ago any of that was. So the enquiry our technicians like goes like this: diesel Volkswagen Tiguan, some litres of unleaded, a couple of miles done, now shut off at Asda.

## Little Wakering plus the places beside it

As a coastal village, Little Wakering sees a steady call, whilst its neighbours close by come with it on that same journey: Barling and Great Wakering, Stonebridge and Cupids Corner, Samuels Corner.

We do come. Those places above are only the nearest neighbours, and a page exists for the majority of locations across Essex, so an absence from the list is not an absence from our coverage.

Presuming is the habit to avoid, above all on a boundary or anywhere the satnav gets lost. Call us and check.

The map shows the area the page includes.

We operate by the road, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks over all of that, and your vehicle never needs to move to us.

## Stranded on the roadside anywhere in Little Wakering?

A chance to pull in somewhere sensible doesn't fall to everybody.

If you realised after setting off and finished up along the verge beside Havenside, or in a lay-by somewhere with the hazards flashing, that is a common call for us and not an unusual one.

Whether you remain with the car or step away from it turns on if staying in it feels sensible.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol pulls the mixture further into the fuel system — and oblige it usually will, which is why your engine does not get restarted to limp somewhere safer.

However difficult the location, it's no trouble for us to come to it, and that's a lot better for the vehicle than pressing on.

Here is what a job in the car park at Castle Inn normally looks like. Our engineers get to the vehicle, ask what got in, roughly how much, and whether your engine has run since — those three answers decide most of the work. Then the polluted mixture comes out of your tank, the fuel lines get cleaned, and the fuel filter comes off where your Peugeot 3008 has a serviceable one. Clean diesel goes in and your system is bled. Then we fire it up, make sure it runs smoothly, and you pull away.

## So you've run it? Petrol in a diesel after a couple of miles

This is where the M2 matters, under 25 miles out of Little Wakering.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will usually do both before anything seems wrong. What you get then is rarely a clean stop. Power falls away, the idle gets uneven, and there may be smoke.

Take the next junction that's safe, pull up there, and do not restart the vehicle to move it.

Presume the worst of it on a long trip. Anything approaching the under 5 miles to the nearest city, and the mixture has been through the filter, through your pump, through the injectors. Tell us when you phone. What our engineers bring differs.

Nothing gets worse while it waits. Whatever the diesel Mercedes E-Class did on the way to Friars Park, it's doing none of it now: your pump is not turning. So take your time — but don't drive the vehicle home to buy yourself any.

## Little Wakering itself

Little Wakering is a small village on the coast of Essex, situated near the mouth of the River Roach and close to the larger village of Great Wakering. Little Wakering lies at a low elevation of around 12 metres, with its semi-detached housing stock reflecting the area's relatively recent development. Little Wakering is located near the towns of Southend-on-Sea and Rochford, and is part of the wider Southend-on-Sea urban area.

## What we do when our technicians reach you in Little Wakering

- Three things get established before any quote — the fuel that was put in, the amount, and if anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.

- We drain your tank of all the tainted mixture.

- What is left in the system shouldn't be what started the issue, so your fuel lines get flushed and the filter cleaned.

- Your system gets bled, on fresh diesel.

- We fire it up and check it runs correctly on new diesel.

From that point, you're ready to set off.

Our engineers do all of it wherever the vehicle has come to a stop, which means it never needs to be taken to a workshop, and if it has been noticed early, it is very uncommon for there to be lasting damage.

Our technicians rinse your lines instead of only clearing the tank, and the reason is that weakened fuel has already reached the filter and your pump: it was a start and a drive, however short. The drive genuinely assists — pulled off the forecourt, receipt read, a diesel BMW 1 Series parked up by Saint Mary the Virgin a few hundred yards later is about as well as this goes once the motor has turned. Call us then leave it off.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank instead, around Little Wakering?

If what got in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the opening rule is the same — don't start the vehicle — yet this problem is not.

Petrol weakens the diesel and removes the protection the system relies on.

Corrosion and build-up are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, as AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

Both are ours. There's a separate Little Wakering page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

Knocking, a ragged idle, white smoke, a throttle gone soft. That is a misfuelled diesel Ford Kuga telling you what is wrong. Switch off where you have stopped, by Great Wakering Community Centre or anywhere else, and never start the car to find a better place.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain will cost in Little Wakering

Honestly, no single price belongs on a page like this. The job changes. Here's what varies it:

- Has it been run or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.

- Which was put in: unleaded or AdBlue.

- Where your vehicle is, and whether a technician can sensibly get to and work on it.

The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight rather than as a range.

If it's not time-critical — the car is at home and going nowhere — is fine too.

## Petrol in diesel: everyday questions in Little Wakering

## At a petrol station in Little Wakering, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes — forecourts are where a large part of this takes place.

Routinely, provided the site consents: BP, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether we can work in that location is something our technicians answer there and then.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Whether the motor has run counts a lot more, though the proportion matters too, instead of the litres.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different situation from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that decides how much work is required is whether that blend has been sucked through the system.

## I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Turn off somewhere sensible, and keep it that way after you stop.

It is fixable much more often than drivers assume, even though driving is what takes the trouble from your tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart it.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A drain then flush carried out correctly isn't an alteration and doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a dispute with one.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a separate issue and it does not replace what petrol has thinned.

Your pump still has to cope with it, as the tank still has petrol in it later.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

No. We drain and clean the car wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a franchised dealer.

## You, and your car, still together?

The engine stays off.

Turn it off somewhere safe and leave it off, if you have already driven it.

This is recoverable from much more commonly than people assume, and a stationary, cold motor is the best place to be in.

Across Essex and in Little Wakering: mobile fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
