# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Longrock

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled cars where they stand, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive, across Longrock and the rest of Cornwall. The very first thing to do is not to start the engine. When your engine has not yet been started and the petrol is still in your tank, a tank drain is nearly always all it requires, and the following few minutes determine that, not how much got in.

One call to us will be plenty: our team shall explain what comes from here. Make that straight away.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to try first

- Don't crank it. Started regardless? Then do not depend on it. Diesel in a petrol vehicle typically can't run, so the driver stops and the harm ends with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It moves off fine, for several miles. Motorists get that backwards. It isn't all right — that fuel system is wearing every mile you do.

- Two tasks, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps that high-pressure fuel pump and injectors protected. Petrol only does the one. That is why your ignition stays off as well — switch it on and you frequently prime the system, and that's petrol exiting that tank for precisely those parts.

- That advice supposes a diesel fuel system handles petrol by percentage. It will not. Pour diesel on top and nothing at all is cleared; what you end with is a bigger tank of the same mix. And no, the octane makes no difference — super unleaded is just petrol.

- A vehicle that has never shifted is the simplest one to handle, and so remain where you are if you sensibly can. Parked on the verge on Trescoe Road? Hazards on, then leave the vehicle there. A difficult spot works for us better than a started motor.

- The van arriving instead of circling turns on two things: a postcode starting TR20 8, and whatever is next to you with a label on it. Have both prepared before you dial.

- Three answers settle the whole visit: the stuff you put in, the rough volume of it, plus whether anything has been turning since. Our number is 0333 366 0103.

How many miles you went is what we care about, not how long your vehicle has been parked — and here's why. Diesel performs two roles on its way through the engine: it combusts, and before burning it protects the injection pump and its injectors. Petrol does the first only. So a rushed fill on the way in, it dawning on you close to eleven, and a diesel Skoda Octavia parked outside Penzance since quarter past eight tells us those couple of miles were travelled with your pump running on a fuel drained of much of its protection. Phone and leave it right where it is.

## Can petrol be taken out of a diesel at a forecourt?

Plenty of this job starts at a pump, so a good part of that ends up done there.

The drain generally gets done right there. Still on the forecourt at Morrisons? Given the site's consent, that is a spot we work, and regularly.

Before the motor has fired — the forecourt is the only setting it gets halted.

Anywhere else — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was switched on and driven to get there, which means fuel was sucked from that tank, through the fuel filter then into your high-pressure pump. That is not a calamity, and our technicians can still sort it out where it sits. It does mean your lines and the filter need rinsing as well as that tank, and that's determined by the few seconds between reading your receipt and reaching for the key.

Roll the vehicle out of the way if the staff suggest it, and they usually will. The next customer gets through the pump, and that's worth doing.

Firing the car to roll four vehicle lengths isn't.

Petrol in your Ford Focus, and it takes diesel? Shopping in your boot, you at Morrisons, somewhere in Longrock? Then ring us, and leave your engine out of that — not even to leave the bay. Somebody comes out to you. Tank emptied, fuel lines cleaned, new diesel in, and home you go. Light throttle over a mile pulls little, and so these tend to be the straightforward jobs.

## Can our engineers cover your part of Longrock?

Those same journeys take us to Newtown, Varfell, Gulval, Chyandour and Ludgvan along with Longrock, which is a coastal village.

If yours isn't on this list it does not mean we do not come — there are pages for nearly all towns across Cornwall, and the ones listed above are just the nearest neighbours.

On a border, or anywhere a satnav struggles with? Phone and check instead of presuming.

This map is the patch the page includes.

The vehicle doesn't need to come to us. We work over the lot — kerbside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

## Stranded at the kerbside in Longrock

Not everybody has the opportunity to pull over anywhere sensible.

Set off, then noticed? Finished up along the verge beside Castle View, or sat in some lay-by with the hazard lights going? That is a common call here. Not an unusual one.

Whether you stay by the car or stand away from it rests on whether being nearby seems wise.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol pulls that mixture further into the fuel system — and oblige it often will, which is why the motor does not get restarted to limp somewhere safer.

However inconvenient the location, it is no bother for us to get to it, and that is much better for the car than pressing on.

Park it overnight. Call us next morning. Nothing about a diesel Citroen C3 parked in the car park outside Mount View Hotel worsens whilst it sits, tank of petrol or not, and this job remains an easy one right up till the moment it gets taken home. The query our engineers arrive with is about that drive there: a cold engine over a short distance is where petrol burns least well, and whatever fails to burn can find its way past the piston rings into the oil.

## Petrol in a diesel, and the motor has gone

This is where the local M5 comes in — over 50 miles from Longrock.

It will frequently take you onto it, and some way along, before you spot a thing. Then it is some smoke, a rough idle and power falling away — not a clean stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Do not restart it to reposition. Pull off at the next sensible junction then switch off.

On a longer run — anything approaching the under 25 miles to the nearest city — take it the mixture has been through the filter, your pump and the fuel injectors, and say so when you call. It alters what we bring.

Out there normal, back gutless. If that was the trip to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, look at that tank. Diesel gets weakened by petrol, and thin fuel slips past the fine clearances meant to build injection pressure — so every further mile the diesel Volkswagen Touran covered, the less pressure it held onto. Somewhere sensible, switch off, phone us.

## A little about Longrock

Longrock is a small coastal village in Cornwall, situated near the towns of Newtown and Penzance, with Varfell and Gulval nearby. Longrock lies at a low elevation of around 4 metres, close to the sea. Longrock has a mix of housing types, but terraced homes are particularly prevalent in the village. Longrock is located approximately 21.9 miles from Truro, the nearest city.

## Once we reach you in Longrock: what we do

- The answers shape the work, which is why our technicians ask before pricing: what went in, how much of that, and whether the engine has run.

- Away comes the polluted fuel.

- Lines purged, filter cleared. Whatever is left later on isn't the thing that caused the problem.

- Your system gets bled, on clean diesel.

- It's started with new diesel in it, and we make sure that it is running properly.

After that it is ready to drive away.

There's no need to go to a garage at any stage, because the work is all done where your car is, and when it is caught quickly, lasting damage is very uncommon.

## A distinct matter: AdBlue in a diesel tank around Longrock

Do not crank it: that first rule stands whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the issue itself.

The lubrication a fuel system depends on is stripped away by petrol, which thins the diesel.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with the diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus build-up.

We cover both, and AdBlue removal around Longrock has its own page with the details — including why it is usually the more serious of the two.

## Budgeting for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain around Longrock

What shifts the price is listed below, as this job isn't one job and our engineers cannot truthfully put a single figure on this page.

- Has it been run or driven? Nothing else counts for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel got in, judged against how much the tank takes.

- Whether it's petrol or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there is safe for our van.

A straight answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: the car, the amount, and if it has run.

Vehicle at home, going nowhere, nothing pressing about it — is fine for that.

By now your tank is the least of that. Run a diesel and that mixture goes into the fuel filter, into the lines, into the pump, into the rail — and none of that leaves with your tank contents. A diesel Land Rover Range Rover Evoque that got by H.M.S Warspite 1915-1945 wants its system cleared. Clearing is not the same thing.

## Things our engineers get about petrol in diesel in Longrock

## I am on a forecourt in Longrock. Can you drain it here?

Plenty of what our technicians do happens nowhere else. So yes.

Agreement from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like Sainsbury's is somewhere we're regularly, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the call and you'll hear if working there is possible.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Ratio settles it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your engine has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a separate matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that decides how much work is needed is whether that blend has been pulled through the system.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove the car. Now what?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and keep it off.

Not restarting it is the single most useful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the issue out of the tank and into your pump and injectors, yes, and it remains salvageable a lot more commonly than motorists fear.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain and flush done to a good standard, which is no modification at all.

An argument over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

What petrol has thinned isn't put back by two-stroke oil, which is an old fix for a distinct issue. So no.

Petrol remains in that tank afterwards, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no reprieve from it.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

Wherever the vehicle is, we drain and flush it there, so a trip to the main dealer does not come into it.

## Is the vehicle still with you?

Your engine stays off.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere safe, turn off, and let the car remain that way.

A stationary, cold vehicle is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from a lot more commonly than drivers fear.

Throughout Cornwall and in Longrock: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
