# Lower Rushcroft: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans misfuelled cars where they are, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a private drive, all over Lower Rushcroft and the remainder of Greater Manchester. The first thing to do is not to start your engine. While your engine has not been started and the petrol is still sitting in that tank, a drain is almost always all it requires, and the next few minutes determine that, not how much got in.

Ring us before all else begins, so you will hear what follows from there.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do first

- Give a petrol engine diesel and it will usually fail to run at all, and so the motorist stops there and so does the harm. Feed a diesel petrol and the thing starts, it idles, it moves off — all right for several miles. Drivers have that muddled, which is the bit they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So never start the car. And if started, do not believe it: that fuel system is grinding as you drive.

- Two things, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps your high-pressure fuel pump and injectors oiled. Petrol only handles the one. That is why the car's ignition remains off too — switch it on and you commonly prime your system, and that's petrol leaving your tank for just those components.

- Never weaken it. Diesel tipped on top clears nothing, so all you have is more of what was already there, because percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The grade makes no difference.

- A car that hasn't moved is the quickest one to sort out, so stay where you are if you reasonably can. Pulled up on the verge on Fraser Street? Hazards on, then keep the car there. A tricky spot suits us better than a started motor.

- Find out where you are before ringing. A postcode starting OL2 7, and the name of whatever is nearest to you. Otherwise the technician circles rather than showing up.

- Call 0333 366 0103. Tell us what was put in, about how much, plus whether your car has run. Those three replies settle the whole job.

Don't take it home. Petrol-thinned diesel has passed through your high-pressure fuel pump in real quantity on the road in, and the trip back would more or less double that for nothing at all. Call us — the platform is good. There's no need to stand over the Volkswagen Passat at Rochdale while the work happens, and we would very much rather hear from you tonight than learn on Monday.

## At a forecourt: removing petrol from your diesel

Much of this job begins at the pump, which means a fair share of it is finished at one.

The drain generally gets done right there. Still on the forecourt at Shell? Given the owner's agreement, that is a place our engineers work, and regularly.

At the forecourt, this gets stopped with the motor never run, and no place else does it.

Everywhere else — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was fired up and moved to get there, which means fuel was pulled from your tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure pump. That's not a calamity, and our technicians can still sort it out where it is. It does mean the fuel lines and the fuel filter need flushing as well as the tank, and that is settled by the few seconds between checking the receipt and reaching for the key.

The staff will generally help you roll the car out from the petrol pump so the next customer can get by. It is worth doing.

Four car lengths isn't worth a start.

Tell us this much and our technicians can work with it: a diesel Renault Clio, some litres of unleaded in it, two miles or so, turned off outside Asda now. Time gone by is not the thing our engineers need. Fuel drawn by the pump is.

## Places our vans serve near Lower Rushcroft

As a residential suburb, Lower Rushcroft sees a steady visit, and its neighbours round about go with it on that same journey: Small Brook and High Crompton, Shaw and Wood End, Goats.

If yours is not on this list it does not mean we don't come — there are dedicated pages for nearly all locations around Greater Manchester, and the ones named above are simply the closest neighbours.

Phone to check instead of guessing — borders particularly, and wherever the satnav tends to misread.

This map shows the patch the page covers.

Roadside, forecourt, driveway, car park: every bit of it is territory we work on, and none of that asks your car to come to us.

## Stuck by the roadside somewhere around Lower Rushcroft?

Not everybody has the chance to stop anywhere sensible.

If you worked it out after setting off and finished up along the verge on Duchess Street, or at a lay-by somewhere with the hazard lights on, that is a normal call for us instead of an unusual one.

Out of the car while it isn't safe to sit there, by it if it is.

Do not fire up the motor to limp it somewhere safer — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling the mix further into your fuel system.

We'll bring the van to a tricky location without any bother, and for your car that's much better than pressing on.

Three answers settle much of the work: what went in, roughly how much, and whether the engine has run since. We ask for those answers when we get to the vehicle in the car park by North Star. After that the tainted blend comes out of that tank, the fuel lines are flushed, and where your Ford Focus has a serviceable filter, it comes off. When fresh diesel is in and your system primed, we start the engine and check it runs properly before you drive away.

## So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel over a couple of miles

This is where your M62 counts, under 3 miles out of Lower Rushcroft.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a wrongly fuelled diesel will often do both before anything seems wrong. What you get then is rarely a tidy stop. Power ebbs away, your idle goes rough, and there may be some smoke.

Get off at the first safe junction, switch off, and don't restart the vehicle to reposition.

It changes what our technicians bring, and so mention it when you call: on a longer drive — anything near the under 10 miles to the closest city — assume the mixture has been through your filter, the pump and your injectors.

## A little about Lower Rushcroft

Lower Rushcroft is a suburban area in Greater Manchester, situated near the riverside and approximately 188 metres above sea level. Lower Rushcroft lies within the commuter belt of Manchester, about 9 miles from the city centre, and is close to nearby places such as Small Brook and High Crompton. Lower Rushcroft has a population of around 6762 people and predominantly consists of semi-detached housing.

## When we arrive with you around Lower Rushcroft: what we do

- We ask first, quote after. What went in? How much? Has the engine run? Those answers alter what the work actually is.

- That tank is drained of everything.

- Fuel lines are flushed through and the filter cleaned, leaving nothing in the system that created any of this.

- Your system gets primed, on new diesel.

- After it's turned on, our technicians confirm it runs properly on new diesel.

At that point it's ready to set off.

All of this is done where your car is, so it never needs to go to a workshop, and when it has been spotted early, long-term damage is very rare.

Our engineers flush the lines rather than only draining your tank, and the reason is that thinned fuel has already arrived at the fuel filter and the pump: it was a start and a drive, however short. The hop truly helps — pulled off the forecourt, receipt read, a diesel Dacia Duster parked up near St James a couple of hundred yards later is about as well as this goes once your engine has turned. Phone us then leave it off.

## Lower Rushcroft AdBlue removal is a different matter

Don't fire it up: that first step stands whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is this fault itself.

Petrol thins your diesel and strips the lubrication your fuel system relies on.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it leads to corrosion and residue in its place.

Usually the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the details lives on its own Lower Rushcroft page. Both are ours to handle.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain around Lower Rushcroft?

Truthfully, no single price fits on a page like this. This job varies. Here's what moves it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, set against how much that tank holds.

- Which was put in: unleaded or AdBlue.

- Access: the vehicle's position, and whether working on it there's safe for a technician.

Tell us what your vehicle is, how much got in, and whether the engine has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range.

Car at home, going nowhere, nothing time-critical about it — is fine for that.

Fixed and starting aren't the same thing, and the difference is your circuit: our engineers flush it, and take the fuel filter off where there's a serviceable one. Compare that with the sure of themselves tip you will get — drain the car, refill with fresh diesel. Only half right. Do exactly that to a diesel Audi A3 near Crompton Library and it will start, which is exactly why the advice sounds reasonable. Then the engine pulls the petrol left behind in your filter, and in the feed lines, straight back through your pump, because draining a tank does nothing whatever about fuel that has already left it. Phone us instead.

## Petrol in diesel: frequent queries around Lower Rushcroft

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Lower Rushcroft?

Plenty of what our technicians do happens nowhere else. So yes.

Tell us which one you're at when you ring and we will tell you whether we can work there. With the owner's consent our technicians work at Red Rose Filling Station and the other forecourts nearby all the time.

## Is there a sensible quantity of petrol in a diesel?

It rests on the ratio rather than the litres, and far more on whether your motor has run.

What decides how much work is needed is whether that mix has been drawn through your fuel system — because even though five litres in an almost empty tank is a different case from five in a full one, either way that is the query.

## I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. What now?

Turn off somewhere safe, and keep it that way after you stop.

It is recoverable far more commonly than people fear, even though driving is what shifts the problem from your tank into your pump and injectors — and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart it.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

No. Carried out properly, draining and cleaning is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one, which is another reason to leave the vehicle turned off.

## Two-stroke oil in the tank, and then home?

Two-stroke oil solves a different fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

The tank still has petrol in it after that, and the pump still has to cope with it.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

Wherever the vehicle is, we drain and clean it there, so a drive to the main dealer does not come into it.

## Still with your car?

Turned off is how it remains.

Switch it off somewhere sensible then leave it off, if you have already driven it.

Cold and stationary, a motor is in the best position available — and motorists fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.

Emptying misfilled motors, Lower Rushcroft and the rest of Greater Manchester, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
