# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Lymm?

Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled vehicles where they are, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, throughout Lymm and the rest of Cheshire. The first thing to do is not to fire up your engine. While your engine has not been started and the petrol is still in that tank, a fuel drain is nearly always all it needs, and the following few minutes decide that, not how much went in.

Just one ring our way is enough: we will show you what follows after this. Do that right away.

## What now? Petrol in a diesel, in order

- Do not crank it. Fired up regardless? Then never trust it. Diesel in a petrol vehicle usually can't run, so the driver stops and the wear halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It pulls away normally, for a few miles. People get that muddled. It is not fine — that fuel system is wearing every mile you do.

- Diesel burns, and before it ignites it protects — your injection pump, its injectors. Petrol manages only the burning. So leave your ignition off as well: flicking it on is frequently all it takes to prime that system, and priming draws petrol from that tank into exactly those components.

- Don't add diesel on top to weaken it. A diesel fuel system does not cope with petrol by percentage as that advice suggests, and topping up removes nothing — it simply hands you a fuller tank of the same blend. The type makes no difference either: super unleaded is still petrol.

- Sit tight if it is wise to. Hazards on, engine off, leave the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on The Cross, anywhere — a difficult place for us is better than a started motor, and nothing is easier for us to deal with than a vehicle that never moved.

- Have your whereabouts ready before you dial. A postcode starting WA13 9 and whatever is nearest to you with a label on it is the difference between the van turning up and the van circling.

- Dial 0333 366 0103. Tell us what was put in, approximately how much, and also if the car has fired. These three replies shape the full call-out.

Tonight, please, not Monday. Taking it home is the only thing not to do: a commute has forced real quantity through your pump already, petrol-thinned diesel and plenty of that, and the return leg would close to double the figure to no end. The Volkswagen Golf can sit outside Birchwood perfectly happily. Phone from the platform if simpler; standing over us while our engineers work is not required.

## Can petrol be drained from a diesel at the forecourt?

Plenty of the work starts at the pump, which means a good chunk of it gets done at one.

The drain typically takes place on the spot. Still on the forecourt at Shell? Given the owner's consent, that is a place we work, and often.

At the forecourt, it is stopped with your engine never started, and no place else manages it.

Everywhere else — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — the vehicle was started and driven to get there, which means fuel was drawn from that tank, through the filter and into your high-pressure pump. That's not a disaster, and our engineers can still put it right where it sits. It does mean the lines and the fuel filter need flushing as well as that tank, and that's decided by the few seconds between checking the till receipt and reaching for the keys.

Staff will normally pitch in pushing it out from the petrol pump, which lets the next driver get through. Take the assistance.

Starting it just for four vehicle lengths? Don't.

Tell us this much and our technicians can work with it: a diesel Renault Megane, a couple of litres of unleaded in it, two miles or so, turned off at Sainsbury's now. Time passed isn't the thing our technicians need. Fuel pulled by the pump is.

## Service near Lymm

Lymm is a riverside town, so we go out to it and to anywhere by it on the same trips: Church Green, Booths Hill, Statham, Rushgreen and Oughtrington.

Not on this list? It says nothing. The places above are just the nearest few, and nearly all towns around Cheshire have a page of their own somewhere on our site.

Contact us and enquire rather than presuming — county lines above all, and wherever the satnav can misread.

The ground the page covers appears on our map.

Roadside, forecourt, driveway, car park: all of it is territory our engineers cover, and none of it needs your car to move to us.

## Stranded at the kerb anywhere in Lymm?

The chance to stop anywhere suitable does not fall to everybody.

Hazards going at a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge of Lymm Bridge because you noticed after setting off — our technicians take that call so often that it's the usual kind.

Safe there? Wait by it. Not fine? Climb out and clear of it.

Don't start it up to get to a nicer place. It will go — a diesel on petrol normally obliges — and each mile of obliging draws that blend deeper into your fuel system.

Our van heading to an inconvenient place is no trouble for us, and it's a lot better for the vehicle than driving on.

Here's what a job in the car park by The Bulls Head generally looks like. Our technicians arrive at your car, ask what got in, approximately how much, and whether the engine has run since — these three replies settle much of the work. Then the polluted mix comes out of that tank, your lines get rinsed, and the filter comes off where your Peugeot 308 has a serviceable one. New diesel goes in and the fuel system is bled. Then our engineers start it, check it runs correctly, and you set off.

## Run it already? Stop, and see this

Here is where your M6 counts, under 3 miles out of Lymm.

Some distance along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will usually do both before anything seems wrong. What you get then is seldom a tidy stop. Power drains away, your idle turns uneven, and there may be smoke.

Do not start it to reposition. Come off at the first sensible junction then turn off.

Presume the worst of it on a long drive. Anything near the under 15 miles to the closest city, and the mixture has been through the filter, through the pump, through the injectors. Mention it when you call. What our technicians bring alters.

## About Lymm

Lymm is a town in Cheshire, situated on the banks of the River Bollin, with a mix of semi-detached housing and other residential properties. Lymm has a population of around 10286 people and is located near several smaller communities, including Church Green and Booths Hill. Lymm sits at an elevation of 29 metres, close to the nearby city of Salford, and is about 163 miles from London. Lymm is characterized by its riverside setting and surrounding countryside.

## What our technicians do when we reach you around Lymm

- Our engineers find out what was put in, how much, and whether the engine has run. The responses change the work, which is why we ask before pricing.

- The tank gets drained of it.

- What is left in the system shouldn't be what caused the problem, so your fuel lines get flushed and your filter cleared.

- Our technicians put fresh diesel in and bleed the fuel system.

- Our technicians turn it on and check it runs properly on clean diesel.

From that point, you're ready to set off.

There's no need to go to a garage at any point, as the work is all done where the car is, and when it is noticed early, lasting damage is very unusual.

Pulled off the forecourt, read the till receipt, and parked the diesel Audi A4 up close to Lymm Cross a couple of hundred yards later? That's about as well as this goes once the engine has turned. Call us and leave the car off. The short drive genuinely assists, but it was still a start and a drive, so weakened fuel has reached the filter and the pump — which is why our technicians clean the lines instead of only draining your tank.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank by mistake, in Lymm?

If what was put in was AdBlue rather than petrol, the opening step is unchanged — never start the car — yet this issue isn't.

Petrol does two things to diesel: dilutes it, and removes the lubrication your fuel system depends on.

Rust and residue are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, since AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

Usually the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Lymm page. Both are ours to deal with.

Authorisation first, where there is a hire firm or a company behind the vehicle — some agreements demand it, and settling that beforehand saves a great deal of time later. After that, phone us about your diesel Dacia Duster near Lymm Village Hall. You will not know how full your tank was. Hardly anyone does, two days into a motor, and it gets worked out on site all the same. We ask since the harm petrol does in a diesel is proportional: a few litres in an almost empty tank make a much stronger mix than the same few in a full one, and since petrol is built to resist igniting under pressure, which is precisely what a diesel relies on, the stronger it gets the more the motor rattles and smokes and flattens off.

## Lymm prices for a petrol-in-diesel drain

What moves the price is set out below, as the job is not one job and our engineers cannot honestly put a single price on this page.

- Whether the motor has been started or driven. This is the key one.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- Whether it was unleaded or AdBlue.

- Access: the vehicle's position, and if working on it there is safe for a van.

Tell us the vehicle, the amount and if it has run, and you'll get a firm answer rather than a range.

Not urgent, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then works.

## Lymm drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## I'm on a forecourt in Lymm. Can you drain the vehicle on the spot?

Yes, and it is where a large share of this work takes place.

Permission from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like another forecourt nearby is somewhere we are regularly, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the phone and you'll hear whether working there is possible.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Ratio decides it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run.

What settles how much work is required is if that mixture has been sucked through the fuel system — since though five litres in an almost empty tank is a distinct matter from five in a full one, either way that is the question.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the vehicle

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most helpful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the problem out of the tank then into your pump and injectors, yes, and it stays fixable much more frequently than drivers expect.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty withstands a drain then flush done to a proper standard, which is no alteration at all.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old remedy for a separate fault and it doesn't put back what petrol has diluted.

After that? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

No. We drain and clean your car wherever it is, so there is no need to take it to a main dealer.

## Is the car still with you?

Turned off is how the car remains.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, turn off, then let it stay that way.

Cold and still, a vehicle is in the best place available — and people fear this far more than the recovery rate warrants.

Throughout Cheshire and in Lymm: call-out fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the kerbside.
