# Mansewood: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Don't fire up the motor. While the petrol is still inside your tank and your engine has not yet been started, a tank drain is almost always all it requires — and that gets decided in the coming few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled cars where they are, all over Mansewood and the rest of Glasgow City, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway.

One call to us will be enough: we can show you what follows from here. Do that right away.

## Your first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- Do not fire it up. Fired up anyway? Then don't depend on it. Diesel in a petrol car normally can't run, and so the driver stops and the wear stops with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It pulls away normally, for several miles. Drivers get that backwards. It is not okay — the fuel system is wearing every mile you do.

- Leave your ignition alone as well. Diesel has two roles: it burns, and before it combusts it greases that high-pressure pump and its injectors. Petrol handles the first but not the second. Switching the ignition on is commonly all it takes to prime your system, which carries this petrol out of your tank then into just those components.

- Never thin it. Diesel added on top clears nothing, and so all you get is more of what was already there, because percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol. Super unleaded? Simply petrol. The grade makes no difference.

- Wait where you are if you reasonably can. A vehicle that has never moved is the simplest one to handle, and we would much rather travel to an odd location than have it started. If you are parked on the verge on Bemersyde Avenue, turn those hazards on and leave the car there.

- Before you dial, gather your location. Anything closest to you with a sign on it, plus a postcode starting G43 1 — that is what settles whether the technician arrives or circles.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Say what went in, approximately how many litres, and whether your car has fired. Those three answers decide the entire job.

Petrol in a diesel Peugeot 308, left outside Thornliebank since breakfast? The wait has cost you nothing — fuel sitting in a tank is harmless. It was the run in that pushed weakened diesel through your pump. Phone before you drive it.

## At the forecourt: clearing petrol from the diesel

Most of this work begins at the pump, meaning a big part of that gets finished on site.

If you are still at the forecourt at BP, that's normally where the drain takes place — we operate on garage forecourts regularly, with the station's consent.

At the forecourt, it gets spotted with the engine never fired, and no place else does that.

Fuel sucked out of that tank and through the fuel filter, right to your high-pressure pump, is what occurs when the motor is started and the car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush takes in the fuel filter and your lines along with the tank. That's still not a disaster, and we sort it out where the car is. What determines it is whether the key was turned in the seconds after the receipt was checked.

Away from the petrol pump, the next customer can get by — so yes, let the attendants help you push it. Well worth doing.

Rolling the car four bays doesn't justify firing it.

## Coverage near Mansewood

Hillpark, Auldhouse, Carnwadric, Orchard Park, Newlands — all of these on our trips that bring us across to Mansewood as well, a residential suburb.

If yours isn't on this list it does not mean we do not come — there are separate pages for most towns in Glasgow City, and the ones mentioned above are simply the immediate neighbours.

Ring us to check rather than guessing, especially when you're on a boundary or somewhere your satnav can't find.

The map shows the patch this page includes.

The vehicle doesn't need to move to us. We work across the lot — roadside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

Hazards on. Ignition off. Call us. It's twenty to nine by the local primary school, you are late, and your receipt says unleaded — and although three miles in the BMW 1 Series seems like nothing, fuel is delivered to demand, and a frantic dash asks for plenty of that.

## Mansewood: stuck where you stopped

Some drivers find no sensible place to stop at all.

A normal call for us rather than an unusual one: realised after setting off, landed along the verge on Hillside Quadrant or in a lay-by with the hazard lights flashing.

Safe where you are? Wait by it. Not okay? Climb out and clear of it.

It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that's the problem: start it up to reach somewhere better and that mixture goes further into the fuel system with every mile driven.

However tricky the place, it's no bother for us to get to it, and that's far better for the vehicle than driving on.

## Already driven it? Petrol in a diesel after a few miles

under 3 miles from Mansewood, the local M77 is what matters now.

Lost power, a rough idle, smoke: those are the signs when they appear, rather than a neat stop — and a misfilled diesel will frequently take you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong at all.

Do not start it to move it. Get off at the next safe junction then turn off.

On a longer drive — anything close to the under 5 miles to the nearest city — take it the mixture has been through the fuel filter, your pump and your injectors, and mention it when you ring. It alters what we bring.

Your pump isn't turning, so whatever the diesel Citroen C3 did on the way to Mansewood High Park, none of it is happening now. Nothing is getting worse whilst it stands. Take your time over this — but don't drive it home to buy any.

## Where is Mansewood?

Mansewood is a suburban area situated on the outskirts of Glasgow, near the River Cart, with a mix of residential flats and local amenities. Mansewood sits at an elevation of 38 metres, close to the nearby communities of Hillpark, Auldhouse, and Carnwadric. Mansewood is located approximately 4.3 miles from Glasgow city centre, making it a popular choice for those who work in the city. Mansewood has a population of around 6410 people, with flats being the predominant type of housing.

## Once our technicians get to you in Mansewood: what happens

- Our technicians ask first, price after. What went in? How much? Has the engine run? Those responses change what the work really is.

- Away goes the polluted fuel.

- What is left in the system should not be what caused the trouble, so the fuel lines get cleaned and the filter cleaned.

- Our engineers pour new diesel in and bleed the fuel system.

- Our technicians fire it up and confirm it runs smoothly on new diesel.

Then it's ready to set off.

We do all of this wherever your car has ended up, which means it never needs to be taken to a garage, and when it has been spotted quickly, it is very unusual for there to be lasting damage.

Emptying your Kia Sportage, changing your filter where there's a usable one, purging your lines, putting clean fuel through the entire system: that's this job, and it's shaped by the worst of that resting in your lines rather than in your tank by this point. Three things help when you ring from close to Eastwood Parish Church — which side the filler is on, whether a technician can park beside without blocking the road, and if your engine has run since you filled up. On-street is the most common location we work, so the location itself is seldom the problem. A narrow parking space is better than a vehicle driven somewhere more handy.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank instead, around Mansewood?

AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the opening step is unchanged — your motor remains off — while the issue under it is a different one altogether.

Petrol thins your diesel and removes the protection your fuel system relies on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Pour that in with the diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus build-up.

Our technicians handle both, and AdBlue removal in Mansewood has its own page with the full story — including why it's often the more serious of the two.

Authorisation first, where there's a hire firm or a company behind the car — some contracts require it, and settling that beforehand saves a great deal of time later. After that, call us about the diesel Volkswagen Touran near Holy Name RC Church. You will not know how full your tank was. Hardly anyone does, two days into a vehicle, and it gets worked out on site anyway. We ask because the damage petrol does in a diesel is proportional: a couple of litres in an almost empty tank make a much stronger mix than the same few in a full one, and since petrol is designed to resist igniting under pressure, which is precisely what a diesel relies on, the stronger it gets the more the motor rattles and smokes and flattens off.

## Mansewood costs for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

Frankly, no single price belongs on a page like this. The job changes. Here's what moves it:

- This is the big one: whether your motor has been run, or driven.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever got in.

- Whether a van can safely reach your vehicle and work on it, which rests on where the car is.

Tell us what the vehicle is, how much got in, and if the motor has run. A firm answer comes back, not a range.

If it's not time-critical — the car is at home and going nowhere — works too.

## Petrol in diesel: common questions around Mansewood

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station in Mansewood?

Yes, and it's where a good part of this work happens.

Tell us which one you're at when you call and we'll tell you if we can work there. With the station's permission our technicians work at Shell and the other forecourts around town all the time.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Whether your engine has run counts far more, though the proportion counts too, rather than the litres.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a separate case from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that decides how much work is required is whether that mix has been sucked through the fuel system.

## I put petrol in my diesel and drove the car. What now?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and leave it off.

It's fixable far more regularly than drivers expect, even though driving is what moves the issue from that tank into the pump and injectors — and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart it.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

No. Carried out properly, draining and cleaning is no alteration at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is unaffected by it.

An argument over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

No. It belongs to a distinct fault from a different era, and petrol has diluted something no oil of that kind restores.

That tank still has petrol in it after that, and your pump still has to live with it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

You do not need one. Your car is drained and cleaned wherever it is, with no need to bring it to a franchised dealer.

## Standing next to it?

Don't turn your engine back on.

Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, switch off, and no restarting the vehicle later on.

Cold and stationary, a vehicle is in the best position available — and drivers fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.

Across Glasgow City and around Mansewood: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
