# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Mastrick

Do not turn on the motor. If the petrol is still inside your tank and the motor has not turned over, a drain is nearly always all it needs — and that gets determined in the following few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrongly fuelled cars where they are, throughout Mastrick and the remainder of Aberdeen City, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive.

Contact us before all else starts, and you will see what happens after that.

## What next? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

- Never crank it. Turned on regardless? Then never depend on it. Diesel in a petrol car typically can't run, and so the driver stops and the damage stops with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It pulls away fine, for a few miles. Motorists get that reversed. It isn't fine — your fuel system is wearing every mile you drive.

- Leave the car's ignition alone also. Diesel performs two tasks: it burns, and before it combusts it lubricates the high-pressure fuel pump and its injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Switching the ignition on is commonly enough to prime that system, which draws the petrol out of the tank then into just those components.

- Don't put diesel on top to weaken it. A diesel fuel system doesn't accept petrol by percentage as that advice suggests, and topping up removes nothing — it simply hands you a larger tank of the same blend. The type makes no difference either: super unleaded is just petrol.

- We would much rather come to a tricky place than have it started — so if you reasonably can, sit tight. Nothing is easier to sort than a car that has never shifted. On the verge on Greenfern Road, that means hazards on then leave it.

- Know where you are before ringing. A postcode that starts AB16 5, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise the technician circles rather than showing up.

- Phone 0333 366 0103. Tell us what got in, approximately how many litres, and also whether the motor has started. Those three replies shape the full call-out.

## At the forecourt: clearing petrol from the diesel

Much of the work begins at the pump, which means a large share of that is done there.

We operate on petrol station forecourts routinely, with the site's consent, and so if you're still at Shell that's generally where the drain happens.

At a garage, it is spotted with the motor never fired, and nowhere else manages it.

Fuel drawn out of the tank and through the fuel filter, all the way to the high-pressure pump, is what happens when the engine is fired up and the vehicle is moved to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush covers the fuel filter and your lines together with that tank. That is still not a calamity, and our technicians sort it out where the vehicle stands. What settles it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after your receipt was read.

The attendants will generally help you wheel the car away from the petrol pump so the next motorist can get by. That's worth doing.

Starting it over four car lengths? Not a chance.

## Mastrick and the places next to it

Mastrick is a residential suburb, and we are out to it and to the places around it on the same trips: Summerhill, Sheddocksley, Northfield, Stockethill and Cornhill.

If yours isn't on that list it does not mean we do not come — there are pages for the majority of places across Aberdeen City, and the ones mentioned above are merely the closest neighbours.

Presuming is the thing to skip, particularly on a border or somewhere your phone goes wrong. Call us and enquire.

Check the map for the area included here.

All of that is ground our engineers cover: a kerbside, a forecourt, a private drive, a car park. You do not move your vehicle anywhere.

## Mastrick: broken down wherever you parked

Not everyone gets the chance to pull in anywhere sensible.

If you realised after setting off and landed by the verge of Spey Terrace, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards flashing, that is a routine call for us instead of a rare one.

Out of the motor if it is not wise to sit inside, by it if it is.

It will frequently oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that's the catch: restart it to get to somewhere handier and that mixture goes further into the fuel system with every mile travelled.

Our van driving to a difficult spot is no bother for us, and it is a lot better for the car than driving on.

What we'll ask about is if the run there was short and chilly, because that's where petrol is least likely to burn correctly — and what won't burn can get past the piston rings then into the sump. Right up to the moment somebody drives it home, a diesel Nissan Qashqai sitting in the car park outside Grays Inn holding a tank full of petrol in it is an easy job. Nothing deteriorates whilst it sits, so leave it overnight and call us first thing.

## Some miles on petrol in a diesel: now what?

The local M90 is the road which matters now, and sits over 50 miles from Mastrick.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will frequently manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is rarely a neat stop. Power falls away, your idle gets uneven, and there may be some smoke.

Get off at the first sensible junction, turn off, and don't restart the car to move it.

Long trip? Anything near the under 3 miles to the closest city and you should assume the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it arrived at by the mixture. Say that on the call, since it affects what goes in the van.

Injection pressure is the thing being lost. Petrol dilutes diesel, and thinner fuel slips past the precision parts that are meant to build that pressure, and so the further a diesel Mercedes C-Class went, the less well it held. Happy on the way out and sluggish on the way back is how that drive to Eric Hendrie Park went, then, and the tank is where to look. Pull in somewhere safe, switch off then ring us.

## Where is Mastrick?

Mastrick is a suburban area located inland, approximately 2.6 miles from Aberdeen city centre, and sits at an elevation of 114 metres. Mastrick is characterised by its predominantly terraced housing and is situated near other suburban areas such as Summerhill and Northfield. Mastrick is a relatively densely populated area with around 7186 residents. Mastrick forms part of the wider Aberdeen urban area, which is a significant distance from London, at around 398.7 miles away.

## What our technicians do when we get to you around Mastrick

- The replies shape the work, which is why our technicians ask before quoting: what was put in, how much of that, and if your motor has run.

- We empty the tank of all the contaminated fuel.

- Fuel lines are cleaned through and the filter cleared, leaving nothing in the fuel system that started any of this.

- New diesel goes in, and then your system gets bled.

- Our technicians fire it up and confirm it runs smoothly on fresh diesel.

At that point it is ready to set off.

All of this is done where the car is, so it never has to be taken to a garage, and when it has been noticed soon, long-term damage is very unusual.

About as well as this goes, once your engine has turned: away from the pumps, receipt read, and your diesel Peugeot 3008 left by Mastrick Library scarcely two streets on. Phone us, and leave the vehicle off. A short distance does truly help. It was still a start and still a drive, though, and so your filter and your pump have had thinned fuel through them — hence purging your lines instead of only clearing that tank.

## Mastrick AdBlue removal is a separate problem

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the opening step is unchanged — your motor stays off — while this fault under it's a separate one altogether.

Petrol does two things to diesel: weakens it, and removes the protection the system relies on.

Rust and deposits are what a diesel tank gets instead, as AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

AdBlue removal around Mastrick has a page of its own with the full story on it, including why it's frequently the more significant of the two. Our technicians handle both.

Knocking? Ragged idle? White smoke, throttle gone soft? That's your wrongly fuelled Audi Q5, a diesel, saying what's wrong with it. Stop wherever you happen to be, maybe close to Mastrick Community Centre, and leave the restarting alone.

## Mastrick prices for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

What moves the price is set out below, since this job is not one job and we cannot truthfully put a single number on this page.

- This is the main one: whether your engine has been run, or driven.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, set against how much your tank can hold.

- The type of fluid in the tank, unleaded or AdBlue.

- Where your vehicle is, and whether our van can sensibly reach and work on it.

A clear answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: your vehicle, the quantity, and if it has run.

For your car at home that's going nowhere and isn't pressing, works too.

Your filter, the lines, the pump and the rail: that is where that blend is once a diesel has run, and it does not come back out with the tank contents. So that tank isn't where most of the trouble rests by this point, and a diesel Ford Fiesta that got close to Mastrick Parish Church needs your circuit purged rather than drained.

## Questions our engineers hear about petrol in diesel around Mastrick

## Fuel drains on a Mastrick petrol station forecourt

A good portion of this work takes place there, so yes.

Our engineers work at Esso and the other forecourts nearby routinely, with the owner's permission — tell us which one you are at when you call and we'll tell you if our engineers can work there.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Proportion settles it rather than litres — and more than either, whether the engine has run.

What settles how much work is required is whether that mixture has been sucked through the fuel system — because although five litres in an almost empty tank is a separate case from five in a full one, either way that is the question.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it

Pull over somewhere sensible, turn off, and keep the vehicle off.

Driving shifts the problem along — out of that tank, into your pump and injectors. Motorists fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly useful thing left to you isn't restarting the car.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

No. Carried out properly, draining and purging is no modification at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a disagreement with one, which is another reason to leave the car turned off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

No. Two-stroke oil is an old remedy for a different issue and it does not replace what petrol has thinned.

Later? Still petrol in that tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — essential?

There is no need to bring it to a dealership, because our technicians drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.

## Still with the vehicle?

Turned off is the way it remains.

Switch it off somewhere sensible then leave it off, if you have already driven it.

This is recoverable from a lot more regularly than people fear, and a still, cold motor is the best position to be in.
