# Menstrie: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

If you have not started the motor as yet, don't. A drain and nothing more is nearly always what a car requires while the petrol is still inside your tank and the motor has not yet run, which is why it is the coming few minutes that count, not how much went in. Petrol in Diesel goes to your car wherever it has ended up in Menstrie or the rest of Clackmannanshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a private drive, and drains and cleans it there.

Call us before all else starts, and you will know what follows from there.

## What to do now about petrol in a diesel

- Do not crank it. Fired up regardless? Then don't rely on it. Diesel in a petrol car normally will not run, and so the person stops and the damage halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It moves off normally, for a few miles. Motorists get that backwards. It is not okay — your fuel system is grinding every mile you cover.

- Two jobs, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors greased. Petrol only does the one. Which is why the ignition remains off as well — flick it on and you usually prime your system, and that's petrol exiting that tank for precisely those components.

- Topping up gets rid of nothing. It gives you a larger tank of the same mixture, since a diesel fuel system doesn't handle petrol by percentage in the way that guidance assumes — so do not tip diesel on top to dilute it. Octane is immaterial too: super unleaded is petrol.

- Remain where you are if you reasonably can. A car that hasn't shifted is the simplest one to sort, and we'd sooner travel to an odd place than have it started. If you're pulled up on the verge on Park Road, turn the hazards on and keep the car there.

- Before you call, work out your whereabouts. Anything closest to you with a sign on it, plus a postcode beginning FK11 7 — that is what decides whether the technician shows up or circles.

- What went in, roughly how many litres, plus if the engine has run — those three replies determine the whole job. Phone 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

The high-pressure pump spent that morning drive running on a fluid that had given up much of the protection it is built around. Diesel protects that pump, and the injectors with it, before any of your fuel burns; petrol does the burning and none of the oiling. So imagine a diesel Renault Megane, fuelled at quarter past eight, taken in to work, and parked standing at Alloa until it dawns on you somewhere around eleven. Three hours of standing have altered nothing about it. The couple of miles before that changed a good deal, which is why the question we put to you is about miles rather than time. Phone. Keep it just where it stands.

## Can petrol be pumped from your diesel at a forecourt?

Plenty of the work begins at a pump, so a good chunk of that ends up completed at one.

We work on petrol station forecourts all the time, with the station's agreement, so if you're still at JET that is usually where the drain takes place.

At a garage, this is spotted with your engine never started, and nowhere else manages it.

Fuel drawn out of the tank and through your filter, right to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what occurs when the engine is fired up and the vehicle is moved to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush covers the filter and the lines along with the tank. That is still not a calamity, and our engineers put it right where your car sits. What determines it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the till receipt was checked.

Roll the car out of the way if the attendants volunteer, and they generally will. The next customer gets by the petrol pump, and that is worth doing.

Firing the car to roll four vehicle lengths is not.

## Places we serve in Menstrie

Menstrie is a coastal village, and so our vans head out to the town and to the villages by it on the usual rounds: Tullibody, Blairlogie, Glenochil Village, Manor Powis and Cambus.

If yours is not on the list it doesn't mean we never come — there are dedicated pages for nearly all places in Clackmannanshire, and the ones named above are merely the nearest neighbours.

Call us to ask rather than assuming, above all when you're on the border or somewhere your satnav struggles with.

The map shows the area this page spans.

The lot is ground our technicians serve: a roadside, a forecourt, a driveway, a car park. You do not bring the vehicle anywhere.

How far, and how hard? The second of those matters more than the first, and so have both prepared. Your Skoda Octavia will have felt completely usual on the way back from the local primary school — they all do, and that's the trap. Diesel into a petrol motor usually will not run at all: the motorist stops, and so does the harm. Petrol into a diesel starts, ticks over, moves off like nothing happened, while the high-pressure fuel pump gets on with its work minus the protection your fuel should be giving it. No warning arrives, since behind the wheel nothing seems wrong.

## Menstrie: stuck where you stopped

The chance to pull over anywhere suitable doesn't fall to everyone.

If you noticed after setting off and finished up on the verge beside Ochil Road, or in a lay-by somewhere with the hazards flashing, that's a normal call for us instead of an unusual one.

Stay with the car while it is safe to wait in it, and out of the vehicle when it isn't.

It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along very willingly, and that is the catch: restart it to get to somewhere handier and that blend goes further into the system with every mile covered.

A technician driving to a difficult place is no trouble for us, and it is much better for your car than pressing on.

The parts that should be getting lubricated are grinding instead, and your vehicle gives no sign of it: a diesel on a thinned tank fires up and drives off quite happily. Risk the trip home from The Hollytree? Not a chance. Call us and leave the Dacia Duster where it sits.

## Already run it? Petrol in a diesel after some miles

This is where the M9 counts, under 5 miles out of Menstrie.

A misfuelled diesel will often take you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong, and the signs when they appear are typically a drop in power, an uneven idle and some smoke instead of a clean stop.

The next safe junction is the one to take. Switch off there, and leave the restarting alone.

Presume the worst of that on a long drive. Anything close to the under 5 miles to the nearest city, and the petrol has been through the fuel filter, through the pump, through your injectors. Tell us when you ring. What our technicians bring changes.

Standing still, it gets no worse. Your pump isn't turning, and so whatever occurred on the way to Menstrie Wood in that diesel Mercedes E-Class is finished happening. Time is yours. Just don't take it home on the engine to find more of it.

## About Menstrie

Menstrie is a village in Clackmannanshire, situated near the coast, with an elevation of 23 metres, and is located close to the city of Stirling. Menstrie has a mix of housing types, but is predominantly characterised by terraced homes. Menstrie is part of a wider network of communities, including nearby Tullibody, Blairlogie, and Glenochil Village.

## Once we reach you in Menstrie: what happens

- Our engineers ask first, price after. What got in? How much? Has your engine run? Those responses shape what the work really is.

- Our engineers drain that tank of all the contaminated mixture.

- What is left in your system should not be what created the issue, and so the lines get flushed and the fuel filter cleared.

- Priming follows, once fresh diesel is in.

- It is run with new diesel in it, and we confirm that it's running properly.

From that point, you are ready to set off.

Our engineers do all of this wherever the car has stopped, which means it never needs to be taken to a garage, and if it has been noticed quickly, it's very unusual for there to be lasting damage.

Draining the Vauxhall Astra, changing the fuel filter where there's a serviceable one, purging the lines, putting clean fuel through the whole circuit: that's the job, and it is shaped by the worst of it waiting in the fuel lines instead of in the tank by this point. Three things help when you phone from close to Menstrie Parish Church of Scotland — which side the filler is on, whether a technician can stand next to without blocking the road, and whether the motor has run since you filled up. On-street is the most common place our technicians work, so the place itself is hardly ever the problem. A cramped parking space trumps a motor driven somewhere more handy.

## Menstrie AdBlue removal is a distinct problem

The issue is not the same, though the opening step is — do not start it — if what went in was AdBlue rather than petrol.

Thinned diesel, and no protection left for the fuel system that depends on it. That is petrol.

Urea dissolved in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes corrosion and residue.

Frequently the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the details lives on its own Menstrie page. Both are ours to handle.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel drain in Menstrie?

Our technicians can't put one number on this page truthfully, as the job isn't one job. What moves it:

- Started? Driven? Either answer counts more than anything else on this list.

- Wrong fuel in, against what that tank takes — that proportion.

- Whether it is petrol or AdBlue.

- Whether a technician can safely get to the car and work on it, which hinges on where the vehicle is.

Tell us what your vehicle is, how much went in, and if your engine has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range.

For your car at home that's going nowhere and isn't pressing, works too.

## Petrol in diesel: everyday questions around Menstrie

## I am on a forecourt in Menstrie. Can you drain it here?

Yes, and it is where a large share of this work gets done.

Often, provided the site agrees: Gulf, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether we can work in that location is something we answer there and then.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Litres aren't the yardstick. Ratio is, and much more than either, it counts if anything has been run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: distinct scenarios, definitely. Either way, the work required comes down to one thing, which is if your fuel system has had that mixture pulled through it.

## I drove the car after putting petrol in my diesel. What now?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then turn off and leave it off.

Driving is what takes the trouble from your tank into your pump and injectors — but it is recoverable far more regularly than motorists assume, and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart the vehicle.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

No. Carried out properly, clearing and rinsing is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is unaffected by it.

Running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause a dispute with one, which is another good reason to leave the vehicle switched off.

## Two-stroke oil in that tank, and then home?

No. It belongs to a different fault from a bygone era, and petrol has thinned something no oil of that kind restores.

After that? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — needed?

There's no need to bring it to a main dealer, because our engineers drain and clean your car wherever it is.

## Is your car still with you?

Never turn the car back on.

If you have already driven it, pull over somewhere sensible, switch it off then leave it off.

A stationary, cold car is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from much more commonly than motorists assume.

Across Clackmannanshire and in Menstrie: on-site fuel draining, at home or on the forecourt or at the roadside.
