# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Mullaghbrack? Don't Start It

If you have not turned on the motor yet, don't. A fuel drain and nothing else is almost always what a vehicle requires while the petrol is still in your tank and your engine has not yet run, which is why it's the next few minutes that count, not how much got in. Petrol in Diesel comes to the car wherever it has stopped in Mullaghbrack or the rest of County Armagh, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a drive, and drains and cleans it there.

Call us so our team will explain what happens from here before you do much else.

## What now? Petrol in a diesel, in order

- Give a petrol motor diesel and it will usually refuse to run at all, and so the driver stops there and so does the harm. Give a diesel petrol and the engine starts, it idles, it pulls away — fine for several miles. Most people have that reversed, which is the bit they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So don't fire it up. And once started, never believe it: the fuel system is wearing down while you drive.

- Leave the car's ignition off also. Diesel has two jobs: it burns, and before it ignites it greases the high-pressure pump and those injectors. Petrol handles the first and not the second. Flicking your ignition on is commonly enough to prime the system, which pulls this petrol out of the tank and into precisely those parts.

- Topping up takes out nothing. It gives you a larger tank of the same blend, since a diesel fuel system will not cope with petrol by percentage the way that advice assumes — so don't add diesel on top to dilute it. Octane is irrelevant too: super unleaded is petrol.

- A vehicle that has never shifted is the quickest one to deal with, so wait where you are if you safely can. Pulled up on the verge on Dunskey Street? Hazards on, then keep the vehicle there. A tricky location works for us better than a started motor.

- Have your location prepared before you ring. A postcode beginning BT60 1 and whatever is next to you with a sign on it is the difference between the van turning up and a van circling.

- Three answers decide the full call-out: the liquid you put in, the rough quantity of it, and if it has been turning since. The number is 0333 366 0103.

Quarter past eight, a rushed top-up on the way in, and it dawns on you somewhere around eleven — by then the diesel Volkswagen Golf has been left outside the nearest station for three hours. Phone us then leave the vehicle precisely where it sits. The run in is the bit that is key here, because diesel performs two tasks on its way through a motor: it burns, and before it combusts it lubricates its high-pressure fuel pump and its injectors. Petrol does the first and not the second. So those couple of miles were travelled with the pump labouring on a liquid that had given up most of the protection it is made for — which is why the thing we ask is how many miles you drove, not how long the car has been sitting.

## Pump-side drains for petrol in a diesel

Plenty of the work starts at a pump, which means a large portion of it is done at one.

Still at the nearest petrol station? Then that's typically where it gets done. Petrol station forecourts are normal for us, with the permission of the site.

A forecourt is the single location the mistake is halted before the engine has run.

Fuel drawn out of that tank and through the filter, all the way to the high-pressure pump, is what occurs when the motor is started and the car is driven to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush takes in your filter and your lines as well as your tank. That's still not a catastrophe, and we sort it out where the vehicle stands. What decides it is whether the ignition was turned in the seconds after your receipt was checked.

The attendants will generally help you push the car out from the pump so the next customer can get past. It is worth doing.

Firing the car just for four vehicle lengths? No.

## Mullaghbrack plus the places near it

The same trips bring us to Markethill, Hamiltonsbawn, Loughgilly, Richhill and Edenaveys besides Mullaghbrack, which is a small village.

There are dedicated pages for most towns across County Armagh, and the ones listed above are just the immediate neighbours — so yours being left off this list means nothing at all about whether we come.

Call us and enquire rather than assuming, especially when you are on the border or anywhere a satnav can't find.

The area the page spans sits on our map.

Your car never needs to travel to us. We work throughout all of it — kerbside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

Twenty to nine. By the local primary school. Late already, and the receipt in your hand says unleaded. Turn the hazards on, leave your motor alone, then phone. You may think three miles is nothing, in the BMW 3 Series or anything else — except that fuel is metered to demand, and a dash taken in a rush asks for a great deal of that.

## Stuck by the roadside in Mullaghbrack

The opportunity to stop somewhere sensible does not fall to everybody.

Set off, then twigged? Landed by the verge of South Crescent, or sat in some lay-by with the hazard lights flashing? That's a normal call here. Not an odd one.

Wait by the vehicle if it is safe to wait there, but out of it when it's not.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that blend further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why the motor doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere handier.

However inconvenient the location, it's no trouble for us to get to it, and that's much better for the vehicle than pressing on.

## Run it already? Pull over, and read this

Here is where the M77 comes into it — over 50 miles from Mullaghbrack.

A loss of power, a lumpy idle, some smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, rather than a clean stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will frequently take you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong at all.

Take the first exit that is safe, stop there, and do not restart it to move it.

Presume the worst of that on a long trip. Anything near the under 10 miles to the closest city, and the petrol has been through the filter, through the pump, through the injectors. Mention it when you phone. What we bring changes.

Standing still, it gets no worse. The pump isn't turning, so whatever happened on the way to the green space at the edge of the village in that diesel Nissan Qashqai is finished happening. Time is yours. Just don't take it home on your engine to find more of it.

## Where is Mullaghbrack?

Mullaghbrack is a locality in County Armagh, situated inland at an elevation of 98 metres, approximately 5.4 miles from the city of Armagh. Mullaghbrack is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its rural setting. Mullaghbrack lies near several nearby settlements, including Markethill, Hamiltonsbawn, and Loughgilly, and is home to around 704 residents. Mullaghbrack is located about 329.8 miles northwest of London, in the heart of Northern Ireland's countryside.

## What comes next when our technicians get to you around Mullaghbrack

- Our technicians check what got in, how much, and if the engine has run. The responses alter the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price.

- Our technicians drain your tank of all the contaminated fuel.

- We rinse the fuel lines and clean the filter, so what's remaining in the system is not what created the issue.

- Our engineers pour fresh diesel in and prime the system.

- After it's fired up, we confirm it runs correctly on fresh diesel.

That leaves your car ready to set off.

There's no need for a workshop at any point, because the work is all done where your car is, and when it is noticed early, lasting damage is very rare.

Pulled off the forecourt, read your receipt, and left your diesel Dacia Duster up close to the centre a couple of hundred yards later? That's about as well as this goes once your engine has turned. Phone us then leave the vehicle off. The short distance genuinely assists, but it was still a start and a drive, so diluted fuel has arrived at the filter and the pump — which is why our engineers flush the fuel lines instead of only draining the tank.

## Mullaghbrack AdBlue removal is a different matter

The problem is not the same, though the opening rule is — never crank it — if what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol.

Weakened diesel, and no protection left for the fuel system that depends on it. That is petrol.

Corrosion and build-up are what a diesel tank ends up with instead, as AdBlue is urea in water.

Both are ours. There is a separate Mullaghbrack page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it usually turns out to be the worse of the two.

A vehicle you collected two days ago gets driven further before anybody spots anything, which is the hire and courtesy problem in one sentence — and how far it went is what settles the quantity of petrol reaching the injectors. Nothing slapdash about the mistake itself: a modern diesel filler neck accepts the smaller petrol nozzle with practically no resistance, so new spots see most of these. Ring us from wherever you are, by a street just off the centre or not, and we will get to the Audi A6.

## Mullaghbrack prices for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

One figure wouldn't be honest here, as this isn't one job. These are the things that change it:

- Has it been run or driven? Nothing else counts for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, judged against how much your tank holds.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever was put in.

- Where is it? And can our van reach it and work there sensibly?

The car, the amount, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight rather than as a range.

For your car at home that is going nowhere and is not time-critical, is fine too.

## Petrol in diesel: everyday questions in Mullaghbrack

## At a petrol station around Mullaghbrack, can you do a fuel drain there?

A large part of this work gets done there, so yes.

Consent from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like another forecourt nearby is somewhere we're regularly, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the phone and you'll hear whether working there's possible.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Ratio settles it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a separate situation from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that settles how much work is required is if that mixture has been pulled through the system.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven it

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then turn off and leave it off.

Driving takes the issue along — out of the tank, into your pump and injectors. People fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly valuable thing left to you is not restarting it.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

No. Carried out properly, emptying and flushing is no change at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

Another reason to leave it switched off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing more likely to cause an argument with one.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

What petrol has thinned isn't restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old fix for a distinct problem. So no.

Petrol remains in that tank after that, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no reprieve from it.

## A main dealer for petrol in a diesel — needed?

You do not need one. Your car is drained and flushed wherever it is, with no need to bring it to a franchised dealer.

## You, and the car, still together?

Leave the car shut off.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, turn off, and no restarting it afterwards.

Cold and parked, a motor is in the best place available — and drivers fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.

Clearing misfilled cars, Mullaghbrack and the rest of County Armagh, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
