# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Newry?

Do not start the motor. If the petrol is still inside the tank and the engine has not yet been started, a drain is almost always all it requires — and that is determined in the next few minutes, not by how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrongly fuelled vehicles where they stand, throughout Newry and the rest of County Armagh, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway.

We will show you what the following stage is. Contact us — this comes ahead of anything else.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in order

- Don't start the car. Started regardless? Then don't believe it. Diesel in a petrol car normally cannot run, and so the motorist stops and the harm halts with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It pulls away happily, for a couple of miles. Most people get that muddled. It isn't all right — that fuel system is wearing every mile you cover.

- Flicking the car's ignition on often primes your system, and priming is what carries petrol out of your tank then into the pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps greased on its way through, before it combusts. Petrol does the burning and none of the protecting. Leave the ignition off.

- Topping up removes nothing. It gives you a larger tank of the same mix, since a diesel fuel system will not tolerate petrol by percentage the way that advice assumes — so do not pour diesel on top to dilute it. Type is irrelevant too: super unleaded is petrol.

- A motor that has not shifted is the quickest one to sort, and so stay where you are if you sensibly can. Stopped on the verge on Dunskey Street? Hazards on, then keep the car there. An odd spot works for us better than a started diesel.

- Check where you are before calling. A postcode that starts BT35 8, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise the van circles rather than turning up.

- Three replies decide your whole call-out: the stuff you put in, the rough volume involved, plus whether anything has been running since. The line is 0333 366 0103.

## Can petrol be taken from your diesel at the forecourt?

Plenty of this work starts at a pump, which means a good portion of that gets done at one.

Still at the nearest petrol station? Then that's normally where it gets done. Station forecourts are routine for us, with the permission of the site.

Nowhere else but a garage can this be caught with your motor still cold.

We can still deal with it where it stands, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, your car has been fired up and moved there, and that sucked fuel through your filter and into your high-pressure pump, all the way from your tank. None of that is a calamity, though the flush then has to go past your tank to your lines and the filter, and the few seconds between checking your receipt and going for the key are what settle that.

Away from the petrol pump, the next customer can get past — so yes, let the staff help you move the vehicle. Well worth doing.

Four car lengths isn't worth the risk.

## Can our engineers reach your part of Newry?

Corrinshego, Bessbrook, Mullaghglass, Camlough, Sheeptown — all of these on the runs that bring us across to Newry itself, a cathedral city.

Not on the list? It says nothing. The places above are simply the nearest few, and nearly all places in County Armagh have a page of their own elsewhere on our site.

Close to the border, or anywhere your phone misreads? Contact us and enquire rather than assuming.

See our map for the area included on this page.

We operate at the roadside, on forecourts, on driveways and in car parks throughout all of it, and the car does not need to come to us.

Your diesel Audi A4 will have seemed perfectly usual on the way back from the local primary school. They all do, and that is the catch with petrol in a diesel instead of the other way round. Put diesel in a petrol motor and it usually will not run, so the motorist stops and the damage stops with them. Put petrol in a diesel and it starts, idles and pulls away as though nothing has happened — all the while the high-pressure fuel pump does its work without the protection the fuel is supposed to be supplying. Nothing tells you, because from behind the wheel there's nothing to caution you about. Phone with about how far you drove and how hard you drove it; the second one matters more than the first.

## Newry: broken down where you parked

The chance to pull over anywhere suitable does not fall to everybody.

If you worked it out after setting off and landed along the verge beside South Crescent, or in a lay-by somewhere with the hazards going, that is a common call for us rather than an unusual one.

Wait beside the car when it is safe to sit there, yet out of the car when it isn't.

Never fire it up to get to a better spot. It will go — a diesel on petrol generally obliges — and each mile of obliging draws that mixture deeper into the system.

However inconvenient the place, it is no problem for us to get to it, and that is a lot better for your car than driving on.

A diesel Ford Focus sitting in the parking area outside the pub in the village with a tank of petrol in it is a simple job, right up till somebody drives it home. Park the car overnight then ring us next morning. Nothing deteriorates whilst it stands. What our technicians will ask is whether the trip there was brief and chilly, because that's where petrol is least likely to burn properly — and whatever doesn't burn can slip past the rings and into the oil.

## So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel after a few miles

Here is where the local M77 comes in, over 50 miles from Newry.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a misfilled diesel will often manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is seldom a tidy stop. Power ebbs away, your idle gets rough, and there may be some smoke.

Take the first exit that's sensible, stop there, and do not restart the car to reposition.

On a longer trip — anything close to the under 25 miles to the nearest city — take it the mixture has been through your filter, your pump and the fuel injectors, and mention it when you call. It changes what our engineers bring.

Sitting still, it gets no worse. Your pump isn't turning, and so whatever occurred on the way to the green space at the edge of the village in that diesel BMW 1 Series is finished happening. Time is yours. Just don't take it home on the engine to find more of that.

## Where's Newry?

Newry is a city located in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, situated inland at an elevation of approximately 30 metres. Newry sits near the Clanrye River and is close to several nearby settlements, including Corrinshego, Bessbrook, and Mullaghglass. Newry is characterised by its predominantly semi-detached housing stock and has a population of around 27,603 people. Newry is also relatively distant from London, at around 318 miles away, but is within commuting distance of nearby Armagh, which is 17 miles away.

## Once our engineers get to you in Newry: what follows

- We establish what was put in, how much, and if your motor has run. The replies shape the work, which is why our technicians ask before pricing.

- Out goes the polluted fuel.

- We purge the fuel lines and clean the filter, so what's left in your system is not what started the problem.

- The system gets bled, on clean diesel.

- Our engineers fire it up and make sure it runs properly on new diesel.

That leaves your car ready to drive away.

There's no need for a garage at any point, as the work is all done where the vehicle is, and when it is spotted early, lasting damage is very rare.

Why so blunt about leaving the keys alone? Because your pump is before your injectors, and a worn one sends whatever it sheds onward with the fuel. Call us. Leave the Vauxhall Astra close to the centre.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Newry is a different problem

AdBlue rather than petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — your motor remains off — while this problem underneath it is a separate one altogether.

Weakened diesel, and no protection left for the fuel system that relies on it. That's petrol.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it leads to corrosion and residue in its place.

Often the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the details sits on its own Newry page. Both are ours to deal with.

## Newry costs for a petrol-in-diesel drain

What moves the figure is laid out below, because the job isn't one job and we cannot truthfully put a single figure on this page.

- This is the big one: whether the engine has been started, or driven.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.

- Whether it was unleaded or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there is sensible for a van.

Tell us what the car is, how much went in, and if the motor has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range.

If it isn't urgent — the vehicle is at home and going nowhere — works too.

A couple of streets, then it stopped. Throttle limp, idle lumpy, and the diesel Citroen C3 is parked up close to the far end of the built-up part. The engine isn't giving up — that sluggishness is fuel that won't build pressure. There is no light on the dash for it, and so cars like yours normally get driven once more before anyone picks up the phone. Do not. Off, and ring us.

## Petrol in diesel: everyday queries in Newry

## I am on a forecourt around Newry. Can you drain the vehicle on the spot?

A fair share of this work happens there, so yes.

Tell us which one you are at when you call and we'll tell you whether our technicians can work there. With the site's consent our technicians attend another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts around town all the time.

## Is there a sensible quantity of petrol in a diesel?

Litres aren't the yardstick. Proportion is, and much more than either, it counts if anything has been run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: separate situations, certainly. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if the system has had that mixture drawn through it.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the vehicle

Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and leave it off.

Driving is what moves the issue from that tank into the pump and injectors — but it's recoverable much more commonly than drivers fear, and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart the vehicle.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a correct standard, which is no modification at all.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Two-stroke oil in that tank, and then home?

No. Two-stroke oil is an old workaround for a distinct issue and it does not put back what petrol has weakened.

After that? Still petrol in that tank, and a pump that has to put up with the stuff.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

No. Our engineers drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is, so there's no need to take it to a dealership.

## Is your vehicle still with you?

The motor remains off.

Already driven it? Then pull in somewhere sensible, switch off, and let it remain that way.

A still, cold vehicle is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from much more regularly than motorists expect.

Draining misfuelled cars, Newry and the rest of County Armagh, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
