# Ounsdale: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Do not fire up your engine. While the petrol is still sitting in that tank and the engine has not been started, a tank drain is almost always all it takes — and that's determined in the coming few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled cars where they sit, across Ounsdale and the remainder of Staffordshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a driveway.

Phone before everything else begins, and you will learn what follows after that.

## What to try next about petrol in a diesel

- Never crank it. Turned on regardless? Then don't trust it. Diesel in a petrol vehicle normally will not run, and so the person stops and the wear stops with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It pulls away normally, for several miles. Motorists get that confused. It's not okay — the fuel system is grinding every mile you drive.

- Leave the car's ignition alone as well. Diesel does two roles: it ignites, and before it ignites it greases that high-pressure pump and the injectors. Petrol manages the first but not the second. Flicking your ignition on is commonly sufficient to prime that system, which draws that petrol out of that tank then into exactly those components.

- Do not tip diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system does not tolerate petrol by percentage in the way that guidance suggests, and topping up takes out nothing — it merely hands you a fuller tank of the same mixture. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is simply petrol.

- We'd much rather drive to a difficult location than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is simpler to handle than a motor that hasn't moved. On the verge on Tollhouse Way, that means hazards on and leave it.

- Keep your position ready before you phone. A postcode beginning WV5 8 and whatever is closest to you with a name on it is the difference between the van showing up and a van circling.

- What went in, approximately how many litres, and whether the motor has started — those three details determine the entire visit. Dial 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

Petrol in a diesel Mercedes C-Class, left outside Coseley since this morning? The day has cost you nothing — fuel in a tank is dormant. It was the drive in that drew weakened diesel through the pump. Call us before you collect it.

## At the forecourt: removing petrol from your diesel

The work begins at a forecourt, generally. Quite often it wraps up at one as well.

If you're still on the forecourt at Texaco, that is typically where this drain gets done — our technicians work on petrol station forecourts regularly, with the station's consent.

Before the motor has fired — the forecourt is the one spot it is spotted.

Our technicians can still put it right where it sits, even away from the pumps. In a car park, on a private drive or in a lay-by, the car has been switched on and moved there, and that drew fuel through the filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump, all the way from the tank. None of that is a disaster, but the flush then has to reach past the tank to the fuel lines and your filter, and the few seconds between seeing the receipt and reaching for the keys are what decide that.

Attendants will usually pitch in pushing it clear of the pump, which lets the next customer get through. Accept the assistance.

Shifting the car four lengths does not justify starting it.

The difficult part is the bay, not your fuel. Cars either side of you, a trolley shelter behind, and from time to time a height barrier on the way in that settles if a technician can reach you at all — so when you call from a car park like the one at Sainsbury's, tell us how much room there is around you and which way round the vehicle is. Those our engineers visit often. Should there be no room to work beside your diesel Audi A3, it gets shifted with the motor off, and not out of fuss over a handful of seconds of running: priming takes place at every start, more of the mix exits that tank for your pump, and two shunts into a roomier spot have quietly made a bigger job of what was simply a motor sitting still.

## Ounsdale and the towns near it

Ounsdale is a residential suburb, and so our vans head out to it and to the villages near it on the usual trips: Wombourne, The Bratch, Giggetty, Brickbridge and Blakeley.

Our technicians do come. The names above are just the closest neighbours, and a page exists for most locations in Staffordshire, so an absence from the list is not an absence from our coverage.

Near a boundary, or anywhere the satnav struggles with? Ring us and check rather than guessing.

This map shows the area this page includes.

All of that is ground our engineers cover: a roadside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You don't drive your car anywhere.

Each restart primes your lines and pulls more petrol through the fuel filter and into your pump. So a misfilled diesel Vauxhall Astra on the zig-zags outside St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School is a hassle, whereas the same vehicle restarted three more times to be helpful is a fuel system rather than a tank. A passer-by will urge you to shift the vehicle out of the gateway and deal with it later. Do not. Leave it, let them complain, and call us.

## Stranded at the roadside near Ounsdale

The chance to pull over somewhere sensible does not come to everyone.

If you realised after setting off and landed along the verge of Ounsdale Road, or at a lay-by somewhere with the hazard lights flashing, that is a normal call for us and not an odd one.

Okay there? Remain by it. Not safe? Move out and clear of it.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol pulls the mixture further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why your motor does not get restarted to limp somewhere handier.

Carrying on causes your car far more harm than a van coming out to an inconvenient place, and that's no problem for us.

You set off at the end, once our technicians have started it and made sure it runs correctly on new diesel, with your system bled. Before that, in the car park outside The Round Oak, the polluted fuel comes out of your tank, the fuel lines get flushed and the filter comes off where your Citroen C3 has a replaceable one. It all begins with three questions when our technicians reach the vehicle: what got in, how much of it, and whether it has been started since.

## Some miles on petrol in a diesel: what now?

This is where the M54 comes in — under 10 miles away from Ounsdale.

It will usually get you onto it, and some way along, before you spot a thing. Then it is smoke, a lumpy idle and power draining away — not a neat stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Take the first exit that is sensible, stop there, and never restart the vehicle to reposition.

It alters what we bring, so tell us when you ring: on a longer drive — anything close to the under 5 miles to the nearest city — assume the mixture has been through your filter, the pump and the fuel injectors.

## All about Ounsdale

Ounsdale is a suburban area located on the riverside in Staffordshire, with an elevation of 82 metres. Ounsdale sits near the city of Wolverhampton, approximately 4.6 miles away, and is close to nearby places such as Wombourne and The Bratch. Ounsdale is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its residential nature. Ounsdale is situated in the West Midlands region, about 113 miles northwest of London.

## What follows when our technicians get to you in Ounsdale

- Three things get checked before any price — your fuel that got in, the quantity, and whether anything has been run since. Each answer shapes the work.

- Away comes the contaminated mixture.

- What is left in your system shouldn't be what started the problem, so the fuel lines get cleaned and the fuel filter cleaned.

- Bleeding the system follows, once fresh diesel is in.

- The engine is started and checked to be sure it runs smoothly on fresh diesel.

That leaves it ready to pull away.

We do all of this wherever the vehicle has ended up, which means it never needs to go to a workshop, and if it has been spotted soon, it's very rare for there to be lasting damage.

Three things help when you call from near Wombourne Leisure Centre: which side the filler is on, whether a technician can park alongside without blocking the road, and whether the motor has run since you filled up. On-street is the most common spot we work, and so the spot itself is rarely the issue — we would far rather deal with a narrow parking bay than with a motor that has been driven to somewhere more convenient. We'll drain the Volvo XC60, change the fuel filter where there's a workable one, flush the lines then put fresh fuel through the full circuit, because by this point the worst of it is waiting in the lines rather than in the tank.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank by mistake, in Ounsdale?

Do not start it: that opening rule applies whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is this fault itself.

The lubrication a fuel system relies on is stripped away by petrol, which weakens the diesel.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus residue.

Our engineers cover both, and AdBlue removal in Ounsdale has its own page with the details — including why it is usually the more significant of the two.

## Ounsdale prices for a petrol-in-diesel drain

Truthfully, no single number fits on a page like this. This job differs. Here is what moves it:

- Whether your engine has been run or driven. This is the main one.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever got in.

- Whether our van can sensibly reach the vehicle and work on it, which depends on where your car is.

Tell us what the car is, how much went in, and whether your engine has run. A firm answer comes back, not a range.

Not urgent, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then does this job.

## Ounsdale motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## At a petrol station in Ounsdale, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes, and it's where a large part of this work gets done.

Often, provided the site agrees: Morrisons, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where exactly you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that spot is something our technicians answer on the spot.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Whether the motor has run counts a lot more, though the ratio counts too, rather than the litres.

Five litres into a nearly dry tank isn't five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that blend been pulled right through, or has it not?

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the vehicle

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

It is salvageable much more frequently than drivers fear, even though driving is what takes the problem from that tank into the pump and injectors — and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart it.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

No. Carried out properly, draining and purging is no modification at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

An argument over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

What petrol has diluted is not restored by two-stroke oil, which is an old workaround for a distinct fault. So no.

The pump still has to cope with it, as the tank still has petrol in it later.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

You don't need one. Your car is drained and flushed wherever it is, with no need to bring it to a main dealer.

## Still with the vehicle?

Do not turn the car back on.

If you have already driven it, pull over somewhere sensible, turn it off and leave it off.

Cold, parked, going nowhere: that's the best place to be in. Motorists fear this a lot more than they need to.

Clearing misfuelled vehicles, Ounsdale and the rest of Staffordshire, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
