# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Over Monnow

With your tank still carrying the petrol and the engine not yet started, almost every job requires only a drain, so keep the engine off. That result is determined in the minutes straight after filling up, rather than by the amount that went in. Throughout Over Monnow and the remainder of Monmouthshire, Petrol in Diesel drains the vehicle and flushes it where it sits, whether by a roadside, on a private drive or at a forecourt.

Call us before everything else begins, so you will hear what happens after that.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to do first

- Give a petrol motor diesel and it will normally refuse to run at all, so the person stops there and so does the wear. Feed a diesel petrol and the thing starts, it ticks over, it pulls away — all right for a couple of miles. Drivers have that muddled, which is the bit they get wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. So do not fire it up. And if started, don't depend on it: your fuel system is grinding as you drive.

- Diesel ignites, and before it ignites it protects — that injection pump, those injectors. Petrol manages only the burning. So leave the car's ignition off also: switching it on is usually sufficient to prime your system, and priming pulls petrol from that tank into precisely those components.

- Never dilute it. Diesel poured on top gets rid of nothing, so all you get is more of what was already there, since percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system copes with petrol. Super unleaded? Just petrol. The octane makes no difference.

- A vehicle that hasn't moved is the easiest one to handle, and so stay where you are if you safely can. Pulled up on the verge on King's Fee? Hazards on, then keep it there. A difficult location suits us better than a started diesel.

- Know where you are before ringing. A postcode starting NP25 5, and the name of whatever is nearest to you. Otherwise our van circles rather than arriving.

- Three facts decide the entire call-out: the liquid you tipped in, the rough quantity involved, plus if anything has been running since. The line is 0333 366 0103.

Do not drive it home. The journey in has already sent a real volume of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of that Volkswagen Tiguan, and the drive back would close to double it for no gain at all. Phone us from the platform if that is simpler. Our engineers don't need you standing over the vehicle at Lydney while our engineers get on, and our team would very much rather hear from you tonight than realise on Monday.

## Pump-side drains for petrol in a diesel

Most of the job begins at a forecourt, meaning a large chunk of it is done on site.

If you're still at the forecourt at Shell, that is generally where this drain gets done — our technicians work on petrol station forecourts regularly, with the site's permission.

Nowhere except a forecourt can this be spotted with the engine still unstarted.

Our engineers can still deal with it where it is, even away from the forecourt. In a car park, on a driveway or in a lay-by, the vehicle has been switched on and moved there, and that pulled fuel through your filter and into the high-pressure fuel pump, all the way from the tank. None of that is a disaster, although the flush then has to reach past that tank to the fuel lines and your filter, and the few seconds between checking the receipt and going for the key are what determine that.

The staff will usually happily push the vehicle clear of the petrol pump so the next driver can get past. That's worth doing.

Four car lengths is not worth the risk.

## Service around Over Monnow

Over Monnow is a residential suburb, and our vans head out to it and to the areas near it on the same rounds: Chippenham, Monmouth, Wyesham, May Hill and Osbaston.

Not on the list? It says nothing. The names above are just the closest few, and most places around Monmouthshire have a page of their own somewhere on this site.

Presuming is the thing to resist, above all on the border or anywhere your phone gets lost. Contact us to enquire.

The patch the page spans is on this map.

Kerbside, forecourt, drive, car park: every bit of it is territory our engineers cover, and none of it requires the vehicle to travel to us.

You'll be urged to move it clear of that gateway and deal with it later. Don't. On the zig-zags by Redbrook Church of England Primary School, a misfuelled Audi A4 running on diesel is in the way, and that's all it is. Start it three more times being courteous and you have turned a tank into a fuel system: every start primes your lines, every prime draws more petrol beyond your filter toward the pump. Let them moan. Phone us.

## Over Monnow: stuck where you parked

Not everyone has a decent spot to pull in.

If you realised after setting off and ended up on the verge on Elstob Way, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards flashing, that is a routine call for us and not an unusual one.

Clear of the car when it's not safe to wait inside, beside it when it is.

Do not fire it up to reach a better spot. It will go — a diesel on petrol usually obliges — and each mile of obliging drags that mixture deeper into your fuel system.

Carrying on causes the car far more harm than our van heading out to an awkward spot, and that is no bother for us.

## A few miles on petrol in a diesel: what next?

The M50 is the one which counts now, and lies under 15 miles from Over Monnow.

Some distance along, and onto it in the first place: a misfuelled diesel will usually do both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is seldom a clean stop. Power falls away, your idle gets lumpy, and there may be smoke.

Come off at the next sensible exit, turn off, and never restart it to move it.

Presume the worst of that on a long drive. Anything near the under 25 miles to the nearest city, and the contamination has been through the filter, through your pump, through the fuel injectors. Say so when you call. What our technicians bring changes.

Pull over somewhere safe, turn off and ring us. Fine on the way out to Drybridge Park, flat on the way back? Then look at that tank. Petrol weakens diesel; thinner fuel slips past the close-fitting parts that build injection pressure; and the further your diesel Kia Sportage went, the less of that pressure it held.

## Over Monnow itself

Over Monnow is a suburban area situated on the banks of the River Monnow in Monmouthshire, Wales. Over Monnow has a relatively low elevation of 19 metres and is located near the town of Monmouth. Over Monnow is characterized by its semi-detached housing and is close to nearby places such as Chippenham and Wyesham. Over Monnow is also within commuting distance to the city of Hereford, which is approximately 17 miles away.

## What follows when our engineers get to you around Over Monnow

- Our engineers check what was put in, how much, and if your engine has run. The answers alter the work, which is why our engineers ask before giving a price.

- Our engineers clear that tank of all the polluted mixture.

- Lines flushed, filter cleared. Whatever is left afterwards isn't the thing that created the trouble.

- Priming follows, once fresh diesel is in.

- It's fired up with fresh diesel in it, and our engineers check that it's running smoothly.

That has it ready to drive away.

All of it is done where the car is, so it never has to go to a garage, and when it has been caught early, long-term damage is very rare.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank instead, around Over Monnow?

Don't start it: that opening step stands whether what got in was AdBlue or petrol. What differs is this issue itself.

Petrol weakens the diesel and removes the lubrication the system relies on.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it causes rust and deposits in its place.

Often the more serious of the two, AdBlue — and the full story lives on its own Over Monnow page. Both are ours to deal with.

The slimmer petrol nozzle slides into a newer diesel filler neck with practically no resistance at all, which makes this mechanical not careless. New locations see most of that for that reason. So: fuelled up by The Cross without thinking, in a diesel Volvo XC60 you have had for two days? Call us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars usually get driven further before anyone notices, and miles determines how much petrol ends up at the fuel injectors.

## Over Monnow prices for a petrol-in-diesel drain

What changes the figure is listed below, since the job is not one job and we can't truthfully put a single price on this page.

- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel was put in, set against how much that tank can hold.

- AdBlue or unleaded, whichever went in.

- Where your car is, and if our van can sensibly reach and work on it.

The vehicle, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back firm instead of as a range.

If it isn't urgent — the vehicle is at home and going nowhere — is fine too.

By this point that tank isn't where most of the problem is. Once a diesel has run, that blend is in your filter, your lines, your pump and its rail — and it does not come back out with your tank contents. A diesel Mercedes GLC that got close to Church of St Thomas the Martyr needs your system cleared, not drained.

## Over Monnow motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## At a petrol station in Over Monnow, can you do a fuel drain there?

Yes, and it's where a large part of this work takes place.

Routinely, provided the site agrees: Applegreen, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that spot is something our engineers answer there and then.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

Ratio decides it rather than litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that settles how much work is needed is if that mix has been pulled through your fuel system.

## I drove the car after putting petrol in my diesel. What now?

Stop safely. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most useful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the trouble out of your tank then into your pump and injectors, yes, and it stays salvageable far more regularly than drivers assume.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a correct standard, which is no modification at all.

What's likelier to start a disagreement is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for your engine to remain off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

No. Two-stroke oil is an old fix for a different problem and it doesn't put back what petrol has weakened.

Petrol remains in that tank later on, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

No. Our engineers drain and flush the car wherever it is, so there's no need to bring it to a dealership.

## Standing next to it?

Turned off is the way it stays.

Driven it already? Then somewhere sensible, stop, switch off, and no restarting the vehicle after that.

Cold and parked, a vehicle is in the best place available — and people fear this much more than the recovery rate warrants.

Mobile fuel draining in Over Monnow and across Monmouthshire — at the roadside, on the forecourt or at home.
