# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Parr Stocks?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes misfuelled cars where they sit, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive, across Parr Stocks and the remainder of Merseyside. The very first thing to do is not to turn on the engine. When the engine has not yet run and the fuel is still sitting in that tank, a fuel drain is nearly always all it takes, and the coming few minutes decide that, not how much got in.

Ring us and our engineers can explain what happens next before you attempt any more.

## Petrol in a diesel: what to try now

- Never crank it. Fired up anyway? Then never rely on it. Diesel in a petrol motor generally cannot run, and so the motorist stops and the harm stops with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It drives off happily, for a couple of miles. People get that muddled. It is not fine — the fuel system is wearing every mile you drive.

- Leave the ignition off also. Diesel performs two tasks: it burns, and before it ignites it greases the high-pressure fuel pump and its injectors. Petrol handles the first but not the second. Turning the car's ignition on is often sufficient to prime your system, which moves that petrol out of the tank and into just those parts.

- Don't water down it. Diesel added on top gets rid of nothing, so all you have is more of what was already there, because percentage is not how a diesel fuel system handles petrol. Super unleaded? Still petrol. The type makes no difference.

- A car that has never shifted is the quickest one to sort, so wait where you are if you reasonably can. Parked on the verge on Park Road? Hazards on, and leave the vehicle there. A difficult place works for us better than a started engine.

- Keep your whereabouts prepared before you dial. A postcode starting WA9 1 and whatever is next to you with a label on it is the difference between our van turning up and our van circling.

- What got in, about how much, and if your car has fired — those three details settle the entire job. Call 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

## Forecourt drains for petrol in a diesel

A fair share of this work gets done at a forecourt, because that is where it usually kicks off.

The drain normally gets done on the spot. Still on the forecourt at Ashcroft Service Station? Given the station's consent, that's somewhere our engineers work, and often.

Nowhere other than the forecourt can this be spotted with the motor still unstarted.

Anywhere else — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — the vehicle was started and driven to get there, which means fuel was pulled from the tank, through your filter then into the high-pressure fuel pump. That is not a disaster, and we can still put it right where it is. It does mean the fuel lines and the fuel filter need cleaning as well as the tank, and that's settled by the few seconds between seeing the till receipt and reaching for the key.

Attendants will generally chip in pushing it out from the petrol pump, which lets the next motorist get past. Take the assistance.

Firing it for four vehicle lengths? Never.

Car parks like the one at OOPS! Clearance are a place we attend regularly, and the fuel is rarely the complicated part. That bay is: cars either side, a trolley shelter behind, occasionally a height barrier on the way in that decides whether a technician can access you at all. So tell us how boxed in you are when you call, and which way the vehicle is pointing. Where we can't work next to your diesel Renault Clio we'll shift the car without starting it — and that is not fussiness about a few seconds of running. Every start primes that fuel system and sucks more of the mix out of the tank and toward the pump, so a motor moved twice into a nicer space has gradually become a bigger job than one left precisely where it stopped.

## Parts our team cover in Parr Stocks

As a residential suburb, Parr Stocks sees a routine visit, whilst the places nearby go along on the same trip: Finger Post and Pocket Nook, Broad Oak and St Helens, Haresfinch.

There are dedicated pages for most towns in Merseyside, and the ones mentioned above are simply the closest neighbours — so yours being missing from the list means nothing at all about if we come.

Assuming is the habit to skip, particularly on a boundary or somewhere your satnav goes wrong. Ring us to enquire.

Use the map for the area included here.

All of that is territory our engineers work: a kerbside, a forecourt, a driveway, a car park. You do not bring your car anywhere.

Someone will advise you to shift the vehicle out of the gateway and sort it out later. Please don't. A wrongly fuelled diesel BMW 3 Series on the zig-zags at Merton Bank Primary School is a nuisance; the same car fired up three more times to be polite is a fuel system and not a tank. Every restart primes the fuel lines and draws more petrol through the filter and into your pump. Leave it, let them moan, and give us a call.

## Parr Stocks: stuck wherever you pulled up

Not everyone has the chance to stop somewhere suitable.

Set off, then noticed? Landed by the verge of Johnson Street, or parked in some lay-by with your hazards going? That is a routine call here. Not an unusual one.

Wait beside the car while it's wise to be inside, yet clear of the car when it is not.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol drags the blend further into your fuel system — and oblige it often will, which is why your motor does not get restarted to limp somewhere better.

We will bring the van to a difficult spot without any bother, and for the vehicle that is much better than pressing on.

## A couple of miles on petrol in a diesel: what now?

under 5 miles from Parr Stocks, the local M62 is what matters now.

A drop in power, a rough idle, some smoke: those are the signs when they arrive, rather than a tidy stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will often take you onto it and some way along before anything seems wrong at all.

Never restart it to reposition. Pull off at the next safe exit then turn off.

On a longer drive — anything near the under 15 miles to the closest city — take it the petrol has been through the fuel filter, your pump and the injectors, and mention it when you phone. It changes what our engineers bring.

## Parr Stocks itself

Parr Stocks is a suburban area located on the riverside in Merseyside, with an elevation of 29 metres. Parr Stocks sits near the city of Liverpool, approximately 11 miles away, and is close to other nearby places such as Finger Post, Pocket Nook, and Broad Oak. Parr Stocks is characterised by its predominantly terraced housing and a population of around 3702 residents.

## What our engineers do when we arrive with you in Parr Stocks

- Our technicians ask first, quote after. What was put in? How much? Has the motor run? Those replies shape what the work actually is.

- The tank is emptied of everything.

- Lines cleaned, filter cleared. Whatever remains after that is not the thing that caused the problem.

- Clean diesel goes in, and then the fuel system gets primed.

- Our technicians start the engine and confirm it runs properly on clean diesel.

The car is then ready for you to pull away.

We do everything wherever the car has come to a stop, which means it never needs to be taken to a workshop, and when it has been caught quickly, it's very unusual for there to be permanent damage.

Our engineers clean the lines rather than only emptying the tank, and the reason is that diluted fuel has already reached the fuel filter and the pump: it was a start and a drive, however short. The distance genuinely assists — pulled off the forecourt, receipt read, a diesel Peugeot 3008 parked up near Holy Trinity a couple of hundred yards later is about as well as this goes once the engine has turned. Call us and leave it off.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank by mistake, around Parr Stocks?

If what was put in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the first rule is unchanged — don't fire it up — yet this issue is not.

The protection a fuel system relies on gets taken away by petrol, which weakens your diesel.

Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that causes rust and build-up.

Both are ours. There is a separate Parr Stocks page for AdBlue removal, with the details on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

Authorisation first, where there's a hire firm or a company behind your car — some contracts demand it, and settling that beforehand saves a great deal of time later. After that, phone us about the diesel Mercedes A-Class by The Salvation Army - St Helens. You'll not know how full your tank was. Hardly anybody does, two days into a car, and it gets worked out there anyway. We ask as the harm petrol does in a diesel is proportional: a few litres in an almost empty tank make a much stronger blend than the same few in a full one, and since petrol is engineered to resist igniting under pressure, which is exactly what a diesel relies on, the stronger it gets the more the motor knocks and smokes and flattens off.

## Parr Stocks costs for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

Our engineers can't put one number on this page truthfully, since the job isn't one job. What moves it:

- This is the key one: whether your motor has been started, or driven.

- Wrong fuel in, against what that tank takes — that proportion.

- Whether it is petrol or AdBlue.

- Whether our van can safely get to your car and work on it, which depends on where the car is.

Tell us what your car is, how much got in, and if the motor has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range.

Not time-critical, with the vehicle at home and going nowhere? Then does this job.

Repaired and starting aren't the same thing, and the difference is the system: we flush it, and take your filter off where there is a working one. Compare that with the certain suggestion you'll get — drain it, refill with new diesel. Half right. Do precisely that to a diesel Audi Q5 close to Woodpecker and it'll start, which is precisely why the tip sounds reasonable. Then your engine pulls the petrol left behind in your filter, and in the feed lines, straight back through your pump, because emptying a tank does nothing whatever about fuel that has already left it. Call us instead.

## Parr Stocks drivers ask us these about petrol in diesel

## Fuel drains on a Parr Stocks petrol station forecourt

A fair portion of this work happens there, so yes.

Tell us which one you are at when you phone and we'll tell you if we can work there. With the owner's agreement our engineers visit Tesco and the other forecourts nearby regularly.

## Is there a safe quantity of petrol in a diesel?

It rests on the proportion instead of the litres, and much more on whether the engine has run.

A nearly empty tank with five litres in it, against a full one with the same five: different situations, of course. Either way, the work needed comes down to one thing, which is if the fuel system has had that blend drawn through it.

## Petrol in my diesel, and I have driven the vehicle

Pull in somewhere safe, switch off, then keep the car off.

Driving is what takes the issue from your tank into your pump and injectors — but it's fixable much more frequently than people expect, and the single most valuable thing you can do now is not restart it.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

It is not a modification, so a drain and flush carried out properly does not cancel a manufacturer's warranty.

Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause a disagreement with one.

## Can I just add two-stroke oil and drive home?

Two-stroke oil solves a different problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol thinned. No.

Petrol stays in that tank afterwards, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no respite from it.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

There is no need to bring it to a main dealer, since we drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.

## Is the vehicle still with you?

The motor remains off.

Already driven it? Then pull over somewhere safe, turn off, and let the vehicle stay that way.

This is recoverable from much more often than people fear, and a parked, cold car is the best position to be in.

Clearing misfilled motors, Parr Stocks and the rest of Merseyside, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
