# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Patna?

Do not start the engine. While the petrol is still in the tank and the motor has not run, a fuel drain is almost always all it needs — and that's settled in the following few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrongly fuelled vehicles where they sit, across Patna and the rest of East Ayrshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive.

Call us so we will show you what happens from here before you attempt much else.

## Your next five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Never crank it. Fired up regardless? Then don't rely on it. Diesel in a petrol motor generally won't run, and so the driver stops and the damage stops with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It ticks over. It drives off fine, for several miles. People get that reversed. It is not all right — that fuel system is wearing down every mile you do.

- Switching the ignition on frequently primes that system, and priming is what carries petrol out of that tank then into your pump and injectors. Those are the parts diesel keeps greased on its way through, before it burns. Petrol handles the burning and none of the protecting. Leave the ignition off.

- Do not dilute it. Diesel added on top gets rid of nothing, so all you get is more of what was already there, because percentage is not how a diesel fuel system handles petrol. Super unleaded? Just petrol. The grade makes no difference.

- We would rather come to a difficult spot than have it started — so if you reasonably can, stay put. Nothing is simpler to deal with than a car that has not moved. On the verge on Whitehill Drive, that means hazards on then leave the car.

- A van turning up rather than circling depends on two things: a postcode beginning KA6 7, and whatever is nearest to you with a label on it. Get both ready before you ring.

- Ring 0333 366 0103. Say what got in, about how much, and if the motor has started. These three answers shape the entire job.

Don't run it home. The drive in has already forced a real volume of petrol-thinned diesel through the high-pressure pump of your Volkswagen Golf, and the journey back would close to double it for no gain at all. Phone us from the platform if that is quicker. Our technicians don't need you standing over your car at Maybole whilst our engineers get it done, and our team would far rather talk to you tonight than discover on Monday.

## Can petrol be drained from a diesel at the forecourt?

A fair portion of the work ends up completed at the pump, because that's where it often begins.

We work on petrol station forecourts routinely, with the owner's permission, so if you are still at JET that is generally where the drain happens.

Nowhere else other than a garage can this be caught with your motor still untouched.

Fuel drawn out of that tank and through your filter, all the way to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what happens when your engine is started and the car is driven to where it is now: the car park, the driveway or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes the filter and the lines as well as that tank. That's still not a calamity, and our engineers sort it out where the vehicle stands. What determines it is whether the key was turned in the seconds after the till receipt was read.

Attendants will generally help out pushing it away from the petrol pump, which lets the next driver get by. Take the offer.

Four vehicle lengths isn't worth a restart.

## Do our engineers reach your part of Patna?

Polnessan, Waterside, Hollybush, Rankinston, Littlemill — every one of them on our trips that bring us across to Patna too, a village.

If yours isn't on that list it does not mean we never come — there are pages for the majority of places across East Ayrshire, and the ones named above are simply the immediate neighbours.

Ring us to check instead of assuming — county lines particularly, and wherever a satnav can misread.

This map shows the patch the page spans.

Roadside, forecourt, drive, car park: all of that is territory we work on, and none of that requires your vehicle to move to us.

Move the car out of that gateway and deal with it later — that is what a passer-by will say, and it is wrong. Parked on the zig-zags at the local primary school, a misfilled diesel BMW 3 Series is a hassle and nothing worse. Started three more times for good manners, it's no longer a tank fault but a fuel system one, since priming takes place with every start and more petrol goes past the filter towards the pump. Let everyone complain. Phone us.

## Broken down by the kerbside near Patna

A chance to pull over anywhere safe does not come to everybody.

Set off, then twigged? Finished up on the verge on Whitehill Avenue, or stuck in some lay-by with your hazards on? That is a routine call here. Not a rare one.

Wait by the vehicle if it is wise to sit inside, and clear of it when it is not.

Do not start up the motor to nurse the vehicle somewhere better — a diesel running on petrol will usually oblige, and every mile it obliges for is pulling that mix further into the fuel system.

Driving on does the vehicle far more harm than our van heading out to an awkward spot, and that's no problem for us.

What we'll ask about is whether that drive there was short and chilly, because that's where petrol is least likely to burn properly — and what doesn't burn can slip past the piston rings then into the sump. Right up to the moment someone drives it home, a diesel Peugeot 308 sitting in the car park by the pub in the village carrying a tank of petrol in it is a simple job. Nothing worsens whilst it sits, and so park the car overnight then call us in the morning.

## So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel after a couple of miles

This is where the M77 counts, under 25 miles out of Patna.

A drop in power, a lumpy idle, some smoke: those are the symptoms when they arrive, instead of a tidy stop — and a misfilled diesel will often take you onto it and some distance along before anything feels wrong at all.

Don't restart it to reposition. Get off at the next safe exit and turn off.

It changes what we bring, so tell us when you call: on a longer drive — anything near the under 50 miles to the closest city — assume the petrol has been through the fuel filter, your pump and the injectors.

## Where's Patna?

Patna is a village in East Ayrshire, situated on the banks of a river at an elevation of 166 metres. Patna lies approximately 36 miles southwest of Glasgow and 321 miles northwest of London, within a rural area that includes nearby settlements like Polnessan and Waterside. Patna has a population of around 710 people, predominantly living in semi-detached housing. Patna is characterized by its riverside setting and relatively small size.

## What comes next when our technicians arrive with you in Patna

- The responses alter the work, which is why we ask before pricing: what got in, how much of it, and whether your motor has run.

- Out flows the contaminated mixture.

- Lines flushed, filter cleaned. Whatever remains afterwards is not the thing that created the issue.

- New diesel goes in, and then the system gets bled.

- When it is started, our engineers check it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

That leaves the car ready to set off.

Lasting damage is very unusual when it has been spotted soon, and since everything is done where your car is, it never has to go to a garage.

Leave the Vauxhall Astra near War Memorial then call us. We are blunt about not driving on as a worn pump gives off, and what it sheds travels onward with the fuel to your injectors beyond it.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank instead, in Patna?

If what got in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the opening step is the same — never start the car — yet this fault isn't.

Petrol thins the diesel and takes away the lubrication the fuel system relies on.

AdBlue is urea in water, and in a diesel tank it brings rust and residue in its place.

Both are ours. There's a separate Patna page for AdBlue removal, with the detail on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

## Paying for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain in Patna

Truthfully, no single number belongs on a page like this. The job changes. Here's what moves it:

- This is the key one: whether the motor has been run, or driven.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, compared with how much that tank holds.

- Which got in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Whether a van can safely get to your vehicle and work on it, which hinges on where the car is.

Tell us what your vehicle is, how much went in, and whether the motor has run. A straight answer comes back, not a range.

Car at home, going nowhere, nothing time-critical about it — is fine for that.

By this point the tank is not where most of the trouble is. Once a diesel has run, that mix is in the fuel filter, your lines, the pump and its rail — and it doesn't come back out with your tank contents. A diesel Kia Sportage that got close to Jellieston Pit No1 needs your circuit cleared, not cleared.

## Patna motorists ask us these about petrol in diesel

## I'm on a forecourt in Patna. Can you drain the car on the spot?

Much of what our engineers do takes place nowhere else. So yes.

Our technicians work at another forecourt nearby and the other forecourts around town routinely, with the site's permission — tell us which one you're at when you call and we will tell you whether our engineers can work there.

## How much petrol is too much for a diesel?

It hinges on the ratio rather than the litres, and far more on whether the engine has run.

Five litres in a nearly empty tank is a different situation from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that decides how much work is required is whether that mixture has been sucked through your fuel system.

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?

Pull in somewhere safe, switch off, then keep the vehicle off.

Driving shifts the problem along — out of the tank, into your pump and injectors. Motorists fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one truly useful thing left to you isn't restarting it.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

It's not a change, so a drain and flush carried out properly doesn't void a manufacturer's warranty.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?

Two-stroke oil solves a different fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol thinned. No.

Your tank still has petrol in it after that, and your pump still has to put up with it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

There is no need to bring it to a main dealer, since we drain and flush the car wherever it is.

## Waiting next to it?

That engine stays off.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, turn off, and no restarting the car later on.

A parked, cold car is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from far more frequently than motorists assume.

Call-out fuel draining in Patna and across East Ayrshire — at the roadside, on the forecourt or at home.
