# Poole: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes wrong-fuelled cars where they are, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway, all over Poole and the rest of Dorset. The very first thing to do is not to start the motor. While your engine has not yet been started and the fuel is still inside that tank, a drain is nearly always all it takes, and the following few minutes decide that, not how much got in.

Ring us before everything else starts, and you'll hear what happens next.

## Now what? Petrol in a diesel, in order

- Never fire it up. Fired up anyway? Then do not rely on it. Diesel in a petrol vehicle normally cannot run, and so the person stops and the damage stops with them. Petrol in a diesel? It starts. It idles. It moves off fine, for several miles. People get that muddled. It is not okay — your fuel system is grinding every mile you cover.

- Switching the car's ignition on commonly primes your system, and priming is what carries petrol out of the tank then into your pump and injectors. Those are the components diesel keeps lubricated on its way through, before it combusts. Petrol manages the burning and none of the oiling. Leave the car's ignition be.

- Do not add diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system does not handle petrol by percentage the way that guidance presumes, and topping up gets rid of nothing — it merely leaves you a bigger tank of the same mix. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is just petrol.

- We would sooner get to an awkward place than have it started — so if you sensibly can, sit tight. Nothing is simpler to sort than a car that has never moved. On the verge on The George, that means hazards on then keep the vehicle.

- Check where you are before calling. A postcode starting BH15 1, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the technician circles instead of showing up.

- What got in, roughly how much, and if the motor has started — those three facts decide the entire visit. Ring 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

Never take it home. Petrol-thinned diesel has run through that high-pressure fuel pump in real volume on the way in, and the trip back would more or less double that for nothing at all. Call us — the platform is okay. There is no need to stand over your Volkswagen Golf outside the nearest station while the work happens, and we'd much rather speak to you tonight than find out on Monday.

## Forecourt draining for petrol in a diesel

Forecourts are where the job often begins, and where a fair part of it ends.

Still at BP? Then that's generally where it happens. Garage forecourts are routine for us, with the permission of the site.

At the forecourt, it gets halted with your engine never started, and no place else does that.

Fuel pulled out of that tank and through your filter, all the way to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what happens when the engine is started and the vehicle is moved to where it is now: the car park, the drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes the filter and your lines along with the tank. That's still not a disaster, and we put it right where your car sits. What decides it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the till receipt was checked.

Out from the petrol pump, the next motorist can get through — so yes, let the staff help you push the vehicle. Worth doing.

Four vehicle lengths is not worth a restart.

The call our engineers hope for goes like this: diesel Renault Megane, some litres of unleaded, run a couple of miles, now switched off outside Sainsbury's. What we are really asking is how much fuel your pump has sucked — not how long ago it was.

## Parts our vans cover near Poole

The same runs take us to Longfleet, Old Town, Sterte, Lower Hamworthy and Oakdale as well as Poole, which is a coastal town.

We still come. Those names above are only the nearest neighbours, and a page is there for most locations across Dorset, and so an absence from the list isn't an absence from our coverage.

Presuming is the mistake to resist, above all on the border or anywhere a satnav goes wrong. Ring us and check.

The patch the page covers sits on the map.

We operate roadside, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks throughout all of that, and your car never needs to come to us.

Move it out of the gateway and fix it later — that is what a passer-by will say, and it's wrong. Stopped on the zig-zags at Old Town Infant School and Nursery, a misfuelled diesel Skoda Octavia is an inconvenience and nothing worse. Started three more times for courtesy, it is no longer a tank problem but a fuel system one, because priming takes place with every start and more petrol goes through the filter toward the pump. Let everyone complain. Call us.

## Roadside stops around Poole

Not everyone gets a chance to stop somewhere safe.

A normal call for us and not a rare one: realised after setting off, finished up by the verge of Kingland Road or in a lay-by with the hazards going.

Wait by the vehicle when it is sensible to be there, and out of the vehicle when it's not.

It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that is the catch: fire it up to reach somewhere handier and that mix goes further into the fuel system with every mile travelled.

A technician coming to an awkward spot is no bother for us, and it's a lot better for your car than driving on.

A diesel BMW 3 Series in the parking area outside George Hotel holding a tank full of petrol in it is a straightforward job, right up till somebody drives it home. Leave the vehicle overnight then phone us first thing. Nothing deteriorates whilst it sits. What our technicians will ask about is whether the trip there was short and chilly, as that's where petrol is least able to burn fully — and anything that does not burn can work past the piston rings and into the oil.

## Driven it already? Stop, and read this

Here is where your M27 comes in — under 25 miles from Poole.

Some way along, and onto it in the first place: a wrongly fuelled diesel will frequently manage both before anything feels wrong. What you get then is seldom a neat stop. Power ebbs away, the idle turns lumpy, and there may be some smoke.

Don't start it to reposition. Pull off at the next sensible junction and switch off.

On a longer run — anything approaching the under 50 miles to the nearest city — take it the petrol has been through the filter, the pump and the injectors, and tell us when you call. It affects what our technicians bring.

Happy on the way out, flat on the way back. If that's how the run to Sterte Green went, your tank is the place to look. Petrol weakens diesel, and thinner fuel seeps past the close-fitting parts that are meant to build injection pressure — so the further your Nissan Qashqai travelled, the less well it held that pressure. Pull in somewhere sensible, switch off then ring us.

## Where's Poole?

Poole is a significant coastal town situated in the county of Dorset, England. It is located near the larger town of Bournemouth, to which it is closely connected. Poole is known for its seaport and forms part of a larger urban area that also includes Christchurch. The town's coastal setting and proximity to other major towns make it a notable location in southern England.

## When our technicians reach you in Poole: what we do

- The replies alter the work, which is why our engineers ask before pricing: what was put in, how much of it, and whether the engine has run.

- The contaminated fuel comes out of the tank.

- What is remaining in the system should not be what started the problem, so the lines get purged and the fuel filter cleaned.

- New diesel goes in, and then your system gets bled.

- We turn it on and make sure it runs properly on clean diesel.

That leaves your car ready to set off.

Lasting damage is very unusual when it has been caught early, and because all of this is done where the vehicle is, it never needs to go to a workshop.

## A separate job: AdBlue in a diesel tank around Poole

Don't fire it up: that opening step holds whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is this problem itself.

Thinned diesel, and no lubrication left for the system that relies on it. That is petrol.

Rust and residue are what a diesel tank gets instead, because AdBlue is urea in water.

We handle both, and AdBlue removal in Poole has its own page with the detail — including why it's often the more significant of the two.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel drain in Poole?

What shifts the figure is listed below, because this job isn't one job and we cannot honestly put a single figure on this page.

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, against how much that tank takes.

- Which got in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Access: the car's position, and whether working on it there is sensible for a technician.

The vehicle, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back clear rather than as a range.

Not time-critical, with your car at home and going nowhere? Then works.

## Questions our engineers hear about petrol in diesel around Poole

## Fuel drains on a Poole petrol station forecourt

Yes — forecourts are where a good part of this takes place.

We attend Esso and the other forecourts locally routinely, with the owner's permission — tell us which one you are at when you call and we'll tell you if our engineers can work there.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

It depends on the ratio instead of the litres, and much more on whether the motor has run.

Five litres in an almost empty tank is a different matter from five in a full one — but either way, the thing that determines how much work is required is if that mixture has been pulled through the fuel system.

## I drove the vehicle after putting petrol in my diesel. What now?

Stop sensibly. Off. Nothing after that.

Not restarting it is the single most helpful thing available to you now. Driving does shift the problem out of your tank then into the pump and injectors, yes, and it remains fixable a lot more regularly than drivers fear.

## Fuel drains and manufacturer warranties

No. Carried out properly, draining and flushing is no modification at all, and the warranty from your manufacturer is untouched by it.

Another reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause an argument with one.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

Two-stroke oil solves a different issue, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

Petrol stays in that tank after that, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no reprieve from it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

Wherever your car is, we drain and flush it there, so a trip to the main dealer does not come into it.

## You, and your car, still together?

Keep the car shut off.

If you have already driven the vehicle, stop somewhere sensible, switch it off then leave it off.

A stationary, cold vehicle is the best position to be in, and this is recoverable from far more regularly than people fear.

Emptying misfilled cars, Poole and the rest of Dorset, wherever they are. Kerbside. Forecourt. Home.
