# Petrol in a Diesel Car in Princes End

Do not start your engine. If the petrol is still sitting in the tank and your engine has not yet turned over, a tank drain is nearly always all it needs — and that's settled in the following few minutes, not by how much was put in. Petrol in Diesel drains and flushes misfuelled cars where they are, across Princes End and the remainder of West Midlands, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a driveway.

A single ring our way will be plenty: we shall show you what comes after this. Try that first.

## The first five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Don't start the car — and don't rely on it if it starts. That is the part most people have wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. A petrol motor filled with diesel usually just will not run, so the motorist stops and the harm halts with them. A diesel given petrol generally starts, idles and moves off perfectly well for several miles. It is not all right. It is wearing out that fuel system whenever you drive.

- Leave the ignition alone as well. Diesel has two tasks: it combusts, and before it ignites it greases your high-pressure pump and the injectors. Petrol does the first but not the second. Flicking the car's ignition on is usually enough to prime your system, which carries this petrol out of your tank and into just those parts.

- Do not tip diesel on top to dilute it. A diesel fuel system doesn't cope with petrol by percentage as that advice assumes, and topping up takes out nothing — it simply gives you a bigger tank of the same mix. The octane makes no difference either: super unleaded is still petrol.

- We would sooner travel to an odd spot than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is easier to sort out than a car that has never shifted. On the verge on Turton Road, that means hazards on then leave the car.

- Check where you are before ringing. A postcode starting DY4 9, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise our van circles rather than turning up.

- What went in, roughly how many litres, and also if the car has run — the three details shape your whole visit. Phone 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

## Can petrol be taken from a diesel on a forecourt?

The work starts at a pump, mostly. Often enough the job finishes at one as well.

If you're still on the forecourt at Asda, that is generally where this drain happens — we work on petrol station forecourts routinely, with the site's agreement.

At a forecourt, it gets stopped with the motor never started, and no place else manages it.

Everywhere else — a car park, a driveway, a lay-by — the vehicle was started and driven to get there, which means fuel was drawn from your tank, through the filter then into the high-pressure pump. That is not a disaster, and our engineers can still sort it out where it sits. It does mean the lines and the fuel filter need rinsing as well as that tank, and that's determined by the few seconds between seeing your receipt and going for your key.

Attendants will generally help out pushing it out from the pump, which lets the next driver get past. Welcome the help.

Cranking the car just to shift four vehicle lengths is not.

Any start primes that fuel system and sucks more of that mix out of the tank and toward the pump — which is why a vehicle moved twice into a nicer spot has gradually turned into a worse job than one left precisely where it stopped. So when we cannot work beside the diesel Renault Clio, we shift the vehicle without running it. None of that is fussiness about a couple of seconds of running. Car parks like the one outside Costcutter our engineers visit often, and your fuel is rarely the tricky part: the bay is. Vehicles either side, a trolley shelter behind, at times a height barrier at the entrance deciding if a technician gets to you at all. Tell us how hemmed in you are, and which way the vehicle faces.

## Do our engineers reach your part of Princes End?

As a residential suburb, Princes End sees a regular call, whilst the villages nearby come along on that same journey: Wednesbury Oak and Hall Green, Batmans Hill and Summer Hill, Daisy Bank.

There are dedicated pages for the majority of locations across West Midlands, and the ones named above are simply the nearest neighbours — so yours being missing from this list says nothing about whether our engineers come.

Presuming is the habit to skip, especially on the border or anywhere the satnav goes wrong. Ring us to check.

This map shows the patch the page includes.

The car never needs to come to us. Our technicians work throughout every bit of it — roadside, forecourts, driveways, car parks.

## Stranded by the kerbside around Princes End

Not everyone finds a sensible spot to stop.

Set off, then noticed? Ended up along the verge beside Brunel Drive, or sat in some lay-by with your hazards flashing? That's a common call here. Not an unusual one.

Fine there? Remain by it. Not safe? Climb out and clear of it.

Do not fire it up to reach a nicer spot. It'll go — a diesel on petrol usually obliges — and each mile of obliging draws the mixture deeper into the fuel system.

However inconvenient the spot, it's no problem for us to get to it, and that is far better for the vehicle than pressing on.

Simple job, this one — until somebody drives it home. A diesel Mercedes C-Class sitting outside The Talbot with petrol in your tank loses nothing by standing there overnight, so leave it then phone us once it's light. Expect a query about the drive there, though. Short and cold is precisely where petrol battles to burn, and what will not burn can work past the piston rings and into the engine oil.

## So you've run it? Petrol in a diesel over a few miles

Here is where the local M6 comes in — under 3 miles away from Princes End.

Lost power, a rough idle, smoke: those are the signs when they appear, rather than a clean stop — and a wrongly fuelled diesel will often take you onto it and some distance along before anything seems wrong at all.

The next safe exit is the one to take. Turn off there, then leave the restarting alone.

It alters what our technicians bring, so say so when you call: on a longer trip — anything close to the under 5 miles to the nearest city — take it the contamination has been through the fuel filter, your pump and the injectors.

## Where's Princes End?

Princes End is a suburban area located near Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, sitting at an elevation of 146 metres. Princes End is characterized by its predominantly semi-detached housing stock, reflecting the typical residential development of the region. Princes End is situated close to nearby places such as Wednesbury Oak and Batmans Hill, and is about 3.8 miles from Wolverhampton city centre.

## What we do when we arrive with you around Princes End

- We check what went in, how much, and if your engine has run. The answers shape the work, which is why our technicians ask before quoting.

- We clear your tank of the contaminated mixture.

- What is remaining in the fuel system should not be what created the trouble, and so the lines get purged and the filter cleared.

- Clean diesel goes in, and then your system gets bled.

- It is started with fresh diesel in it, and our technicians confirm that it is running properly.

The vehicle is then ready for you to drive away.

Lasting damage is very uncommon when it has been caught early, and because everything is done where your car is, it never needs to be taken to a garage.

Rarely the problem, the location. On-street is the commonest place our technicians work, and a tight parking bay is far preferable to a car that has been driven somewhere more handy. What does help, when you ring from near Mount Horeb, is three things: the side the filler is on, whether a van can park next to without blocking the road, and if anything has run since you filled up. Then your Vauxhall Astra gets cleared, the filter changed where a usable one exists, the fuel lines rinsed and clean fuel put through the whole circuit — since by now the worst of it is in your lines, not that tank.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank by mistake, around Princes End?

If what went in was AdBlue instead of petrol, the first rule is unchanged — don't start it — but the problem is not.

Petrol does two things to diesel: weakens it, and removes the lubrication the fuel system depends on.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus deposits.

Both are ours. There's a separate Princes End page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it frequently turns out to be the worse of the two.

Unfamiliar locations are where this happens most, and the reason is mechanical not slapdash: the smaller petrol nozzle goes into a modern diesel filler neck with practically no resistance at all. Topped up close to Saint John Fisher Roman Catholic Church without thinking, in a diesel Citroen C3 you have had for two days? Ring us where you are. Hire and courtesy cars tend to get driven further before anybody realises, and miles is what decides how much petrol gets to the fuel injectors.

## Budgeting for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain in Princes End

What changes the price is set out below, since the job isn't one job and our engineers cannot honestly put a single figure on this page.

- Started? Driven? Either answer matters more than anything else on this list.

- How much of the wrong fuel got in, weighed against how much the tank holds.

- AdBlue or petrol, whichever went in.

- Access: the vehicle's position, and whether working on it there is sensible for a technician.

The car, the quantity, whether it has run — give us those and the answer comes back straight instead of as a range.

Not urgent, with the vehicle at home and going nowhere? Then works.

The filter, your lines, your pump and the rail: that is where that blend is once a diesel has run, and it doesn't come back out with your tank contents. So your tank isn't where most of the problem rests by this point, and a diesel Kia Sportage that made it near St John's Church needs your system purged rather than emptied.

## Petrol in diesel questions from Princes End drivers

## Can you do a fuel drain at a petrol station around Princes End?

Yes — forecourts are where a big share of this gets done.

Often, provided the site consents: Texaco, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our engineers can work in that place is something our engineers answer straight away.

## Is there a sensible amount of petrol in a diesel?

Litres aren't the yardstick. Proportion is, and much more than either, it matters if anything has been run.

Five litres into a nearly dry tank is not five into a full one, no. But both land on the same question in the end: has that blend been pulled right through, or has it not?

## I drove it after putting petrol in my diesel. What next?

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then turn off and leave it off.

Not restarting it is the single most valuable thing available to you now. Driving does shift the trouble out of the tank and into your pump and injectors, yes, and it remains fixable far more regularly than people assume.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

A drain and flush carried out correctly isn't a change and does not cancel a manufacturer's warranty.

Another good reason to leave it turned off: running a diesel on petrol is the thing likelier to cause a dispute with one.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

Two-stroke oil solves a separate problem, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol thinned. No.

Petrol remains in that tank after that, whatever else goes in, and your pump gets no break from it.

## Main dealers and petrol in a diesel

There is no need to bring it to a dealership, because our technicians drain and flush your car wherever it is.

## Is the car still with you?

Leave the engine switched off.

Already driven it? Then stop somewhere sensible, switch off, and let it stay that way.

A parked, cold motor is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from far more often than people expect.
