# Queslett: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

With that tank still carrying the petrol and your engine not yet turned over, nearly every job takes only a drain, so leave the engine off. That outcome is decided in the minutes right after filling up, and not by the amount that got in. Across Queslett and the rest of West Midlands, Petrol in Diesel drains the vehicle and flushes it where it sits, whether at a roadside, on a drive or at a forecourt.

Contact us before anything else happens, and you will see what happens after that.

## What now? Petrol in a diesel, in turn

- While you drive, your pump and your injectors wear. That is why you don't start it, and why you never trust it once it has started. The catch about petrol in a diesel in particular — the point most people get wrong — is that it drives away fine for the first mile or two. Diesel in a petrol engine generally cannot run at all, which stops the driver and stops the harm with them. This one lets you carry on.

- Leave the ignition off as well. Diesel does two roles: it burns, and before it burns it protects your high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors. Petrol handles the first but not the second. Flicking your ignition on is frequently all it takes to prime your system, which carries that petrol out of the tank and into just those components.

- That guidance presumes a diesel fuel system tolerates petrol by percentage. It does not. Put diesel on top and nothing at all is taken out; what you end with is a larger tank of the same mix. And no, the type makes no difference — super unleaded is still petrol.

- Sit tight if it is wise to. Hazards on, motor off, leave the vehicle. Wherever you have stopped — the verge on Ashgrove Road, anywhere — an odd spot for us trumps a started motor, and nothing is easier for us to handle than a motor that never moved.

- Know where you are before ringing. A postcode that starts B44 8, and the name of whatever is closest to you. Otherwise our van circles rather than showing up.

- Three replies shape your whole job: the liquid you poured in, the approximate measure involved, plus if anything has been going since. The line is 0333 366 0103.

## Clearing petrol from a diesel on the forecourt

Pumps are where this work usually starts, and where a big portion of it ends.

The drain usually gets done right there. Still on the forecourt at Asda? Given the station's consent, that's somewhere we work, and routinely.

Nowhere but a forecourt can this be stopped with your motor still unstarted.

The few seconds between checking the receipt and reaching for the key decide how much requires cleaning. Anywhere other than a forecourt — a car park, a drive, a lay-by — the car was switched on and driven to get there, so fuel was pulled from the tank, through the filter then into the high-pressure pump. That means the lines and your filter need cleaning as well as the tank. It is not a disaster, and our engineers can still deal with it where your car sits.

Move the vehicle out of the way if the attendants offer, and they generally will. The next customer gets by the petrol pump, and that's worth doing.

Four vehicle lengths isn't worth the risk.

Petrol in the Renault Clio, and it takes diesel? Shopping in your boot, you outside Asda, somewhere in Queslett? Then phone us, and leave your engine out of that — not even to get out of that bay. Somebody gets to you. Tank cleared, fuel lines purged, new diesel in, and home you go. Easy throttle over a mile draws very little, and so these are usually the straightforward ones.

## Areas our vans cover around Queslett

Those same trips bring us to Pheasey, Old Oscott, Perry Beeches, Kingstanding and Tower Hill along with Queslett, which is a residential suburb.

Not on that list? It tells you nothing. The names above are just the closest few, and the majority of places in West Midlands have a page of their own somewhere on our site.

Near a boundary, or anywhere your satnav gets wrong? Phone and enquire instead of guessing.

The area this page includes appears on our map.

We work by the road, on forecourts, on driveways and at car parks across all of it, and your vehicle does not need to move to us.

Your diesel Peugeot 308 will have seemed entirely ordinary on the way back from Barr View Primary & Nursery Academy. They do, and that is the trap with petrol in a diesel and not the other way round. Put diesel in a petrol motor and it mostly won't run, and so the motorist stops and the wear stops with them. Put petrol in a diesel and it fires up, idles and drives off as though nothing has happened — all the while your high-pressure pump does its work without the lubrication your fuel is supposed to be providing. Nothing tells you, as from behind the wheel there is nothing to alert you about. Phone with about how far you travelled and how hard you drove it; the second answer counts more than the first.

## Kerbside breakdowns across Queslett

Some drivers get no suitable spot to stop whatsoever.

Hazards on at a lay-by somewhere, or pulled onto the verge on Priestfield Close as you realised after setting off — we take that call so often that it is the ordinary kind.

Remain with your car while it's sensible to sit there, but out of it if it's not.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol drags the blend further into the system — and oblige it often will, which is why your motor doesn't get restarted to limp somewhere safer.

A van driving to a difficult spot is no bother for us, and it is much better for the car than driving on.

## Run it already? Pull in, and check below

Your M6 is the road that matters here, and it lies under a mile from Queslett.

It will frequently get you onto it, and some way along, before you feel a thing. Then it is some smoke, an uneven idle and power ebbing away — not a tidy stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

The first sensible junction is the one to take. Switch off there, and leave the restarting alone.

It alters what our engineers bring, so tell us when you call: on a longer drive — anything approaching the under 5 miles to the nearest city — take it the contamination has been through the fuel filter, the pump and the fuel injectors.

Stop somewhere sensible, turn off and phone us. Fine on the way out to Queslett Nature Reserve, sluggish on the way back? Then look at that tank. Petrol weakens diesel; thinner fuel leaks past the precision parts that build injection pressure; and the further the diesel Ford Focus went, the less of that pressure it held.

## All about Queslett

Queslett is a suburban area in the West Midlands, situated near the River Tame and approximately 4.9 miles north of Birmingham city centre. Queslett has a mix of housing types, but semi-detached homes are predominant, and the area is relatively elevated at around 150 metres. Queslett is close to nearby places such as Pheasey, Old Oscott, and Perry Beeches, and is about 104.5 miles northwest of London.

## Our call-out in Queslett, step by step

- Our technicians establish what got in, how much, and if the motor has run. The answers change the work, which is why our technicians ask before pricing.

- Our engineers clear your tank of the polluted mixture.

- Fuel lines are cleaned through and the fuel filter cleared, leaving nothing in the fuel system that caused any of this.

- Priming follows, once fresh diesel is in.

- When it's turned on, our engineers check it runs correctly on clean diesel.

That has your car ready to set off.

There is no need for a workshop at any point, because the work is all done where the vehicle is, and when it's noticed early, permanent damage is very unusual.

## Queslett AdBlue removal is a distinct problem

Do not start it: that first instruction holds whether what went in was AdBlue or petrol. What changes is the issue itself.

Diluted diesel, and no protection left for the fuel system that relies on it. That's petrol.

Urea in water, AdBlue, and in a diesel tank that brings corrosion and residue.

We handle both, and AdBlue removal around Queslett has its own page with the full story — including why it is often the more significant of the two.

Hire car? Company car? Call them before us. Some agreements want the firm to approve the work, and that's much quicker dealt with up front than after that. Then phone us about the BMW X1, the diesel one, by Moonstones: Erasmus Darwin. Do not worry that you can't say how full that tank was — nearly nobody can two days into a vehicle, and it is something our engineers work out there. The reason for asking: damage from petrol in a diesel is a matter of ratio. A couple of litres in an almost empty tank make a far stronger blend than in a full one, and petrol is built to resist the very thing a diesel needs of that, which is igniting when compressed. Stronger blend, more knocking, more smoke, flatter throttle.

## Queslett prices for a petrol-in-diesel fuel drain

One price would not be honest here, because this isn't one job. These are the things that change it:

- Whether your motor has been started or driven. This is the key one.

- How much of the wrong fuel went in, compared with how much that tank holds.

- Which was put in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Where your vehicle is, and whether a van can sensibly get to and work on it.

Tell us what the vehicle is, how much got in, and if your engine has run. A firm answer comes back, not a range.

For the vehicle at home that is going nowhere and is not pressing, is fine too.

Your filter, the lines, your pump and the rail: that's where that mixture is once a diesel has run, and it doesn't come back out with that tank contents. So the tank is not where most of the trouble waits by this point, and a diesel Citroen C3 that got near Moonstones: Samuel Galton needs the circuit flushed instead of cleared.

## Petrol in diesel questions from Queslett drivers

## At a petrol station in Queslett, can you do a fuel drain there?

Plenty of what our engineers do happens nowhere else. So yes.

Tell us which one you are at when you ring and we'll tell you if our technicians can work there. With the owner's consent we visit Gulf and the other forecourts locally routinely.

## How much petrol in a diesel is too much?

Whether the engine has run matters a lot more, though the ratio counts too, instead of the litres.

Five litres into a nearly dry tank isn't five into a full one, no. But both land on the same question in the end: has that mixture been drawn right through, or has it not?

## I drove the car after putting petrol in my diesel. What now?

Somewhere safe, then stop, then switch off and keep it off.

Driving is what shifts the problem from your tank into your pump and injectors — but it's recoverable far more regularly than people assume, and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart it.

## Will a fuel drain void my warranty?

It is not an alteration, and so a drain and flush carried out properly does not invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

A dispute over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it turned off.

## Could I put some two-stroke in and just drive?

Two-stroke oil solves a separate issue, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol diluted. No.

Later? Still petrol in the tank, and a pump that has to cope with the stuff.

## Do I need a main dealer for petrol in a diesel?

There's no need to bring it to a main dealer, because we drain and clean your car wherever it is.

## You, and the vehicle, still together?

Turned off is how the car stays.

Turn it off somewhere sensible then keep it off, if you have already driven it.

A stationary, cold vehicle is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from a lot more regularly than drivers expect.
