# Put Petrol in a Diesel Car in Riddings?

If you have not started the engine yet, do not. A drain and nothing else is nearly always what a motor requires while the petrol is still inside your tank and your engine has not yet been started, which is why it's the following few minutes that matter, not how much went in. Petrol in Diesel travels to the car wherever it has stopped in Riddings or the rest of Lincolnshire, on the forecourt, at the roadside or on a private drive, and drains and flushes it there.

Phone so we will explain what comes from here before you try anything else.

## The first five minutes: petrol in a diesel

- Do not crank it — and never depend on it if it fires up. This is the bit motorists have wrong about petrol in a diesel in particular. A petrol motor given diesel usually just will not run, so the person stops and the harm stops with them. A diesel filled with petrol usually starts, ticks over and drives off just fine for a few miles. It's not all right. It is wearing your fuel system while you drive.

- Two jobs, diesel: it burns, and on the way through it keeps that high-pressure fuel pump and injectors lubricated. Petrol only handles the one. That is why your ignition remains off too — turn it on and you usually prime that system, and that is petrol leaving your tank for precisely those parts.

- That guidance assumes a diesel fuel system handles petrol by percentage. It does not. Tip diesel on top and nothing at all is taken out; what you end with is a bigger tank of the same mix. And no, the grade makes no difference — super unleaded is still petrol.

- We would much rather come to an awkward location than have it started — so if you safely can, stay still. Nothing is easier to deal with than a vehicle that has never shifted. On the verge on Spilsby Road, that means hazards on and leave it.

- A van arriving instead of circling rests on two things: a postcode that starts DN17 2, and whatever is nearest to you with a label on it. Get both prepared before you ring.

- What was put in, roughly how many litres, and if the motor has run — those three details shape your whole visit. Ring 0333 366 0103 and tell us.

## Draining petrol from your diesel at a forecourt

A fair part of this job ends up done at a forecourt, since that's where it usually begins.

We work on garage forecourts regularly, with the site's agreement, and so if you're still at JET that's usually where the drain takes place.

The forecourt is the only spot it can be stopped before your engine has fired.

Fuel drawn out of your tank and through your filter, right to the high-pressure fuel pump, is what happens when the motor is switched on and the car is moved to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, anywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush includes the filter and your lines as well as your tank. That's still not a catastrophe, and our technicians put it right where your car stands. What settles it is whether the key was turned in the seconds after your receipt was checked.

Push the car out of the way if the attendants volunteer, and they normally will. The next motorist gets through the petrol pump, and that is worth doing.

Rolling it four lengths doesn't warrant cranking the engine.

Diesel Dacia Duster. A couple of litres of unleaded. Done a couple of miles. Turned off now, outside Lincolnshire Co-op. That is the enquiry our engineers like, as the question underneath it's about volume through your pump rather than hours on the clock.

## Riddings plus the towns next to it

Riddings is a residential suburb, so our technicians are out to it and to anywhere by it on the same rounds: Yaddlethorpe, Westcliff, Ashby, Old Brumby and Bottesford.

Not on that list? It tells you nothing. The places above are only the nearest few, and most places across Lincolnshire have a page of their own elsewhere on this site.

Phone to enquire rather than presuming, particularly if you are on a boundary or anywhere your phone gets wrong.

The area the page spans is on this map.

Every bit of that is territory our engineers work: a roadside, a forecourt, a private drive, a car park. You do not bring the vehicle anywhere.

Nothing alerts you, because from behind the wheel there's nothing to be warned about. Your diesel BMW 5 Series will have felt completely usual on the way back from Enderby Road Infant School, and they all do — which is the trap with petrol in a diesel rather than the reverse. Diesel in a petrol car mostly refuses to run, stopping the driver and stopping the damage with them. Petrol in a diesel starts, idles, drives off as though nothing had happened, and all the while the pump keeps working without the protection its fuel is supposed to supply. Tell us approximately how far, and how hard. The harder counts more.

## Riddings: stranded wherever you stopped

Not everybody finds a safe place to pull over.

Set off, then twigged? Ended up on the verge of Wragby Road, or stuck in some lay-by with the hazards flashing? That's a normal call here. Not a rare one.

Clear of the car when it's not safe to sit in it, beside it if it is.

Every mile a diesel obliges you for on petrol draws that blend further into the system — and oblige it frequently will, which is why the engine does not get restarted to limp somewhere better.

Pressing on does your car far more harm than our van coming out to an inconvenient place, and that is no bother for us.

## So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel over a couple of miles

under 3 miles from Riddings, the M180 is what counts here.

It will frequently get you onto it, and some way along, before you notice a thing. Then it's some smoke, a lumpy idle and power draining away — not a neat stop. Wrongly fuelled diesels rarely give you one of those.

Get off at the next sensible junction, switch off, and do not restart it to reposition.

Long run? Anything approaching the under 25 miles to the closest city and you should suppose the lot — filter, pump, injectors, all of it arrived at by the mixture. Say that on the phone, because it alters what goes in our van.

Out there happy, back sluggish. If that was the trip to Silica Country Park, look at your tank. Diesel gets thinned by petrol, and thin fuel seeps past the close clearances supposed to build injection pressure — so every additional mile the diesel Peugeot 208 covered, the less pressure it held onto. Somewhere sensible, switch off, ring us.

## Where is Riddings?

Riddings is a suburban area in northern Lincolnshire, situated near the cities of Kingston upon Hull and Scunthorpe, and close to the villages of Yaddlethorpe and Westcliff. Riddings lies at a low elevation of around 19 metres above sea level, in an area of gently sloping land. Riddings has a population of approximately 5926 people, living in predominantly semi-detached housing.

## The call-out in Riddings, step by step

- Our engineers ask first, price after. What got in? How much? Has the engine run? Those replies shape what the work really is.

- Our technicians empty your tank of the tainted fuel.

- Our technicians rinse your fuel lines and clean the filter, and so what's remaining in the fuel system is not what started the issue.

- Bleeding the system follows, once clean diesel is in.

- The engine is turned on and tested to confirm it runs correctly on clean diesel.

That has your car ready to pull away.

There's no need to go to a garage at any stage, because the work is all done where the car is, and when it is noticed soon, long-term damage is very unusual.

Why so firm about leaving the keys alone? Since the pump is ahead of the fuel injectors, and a wearing one sends whatever it sheds onward with your fuel. Phone us. Leave the Volkswagen Polo close to Riddings Leisure Centre.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Riddings is a different problem

The fault isn't the same, though the first rule is — never fire it up — if what got in was AdBlue rather than petrol.

Diluted diesel, and no protection left for your fuel system that relies on it. That is petrol.

AdBlue? Urea dissolved in water. Tip that in with your diesel and you get corrosion instead, plus deposits.

Frequently the more significant of the two, AdBlue — and the full story sits on its own Riddings page. Both are ours to deal with.

## How much is a petrol-in-diesel drain in Riddings?

Honestly, no single price belongs on a page like this. This job differs. Here is what changes it:

- Has it been started or driven? Nothing else matters for as much.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel went into it.

- Which was put in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Where the vehicle is, and if our van can sensibly get to and work on it.

A firm answer instead of a range is what you get for telling us three things: your car, the quantity, and if it has run.

Car at home, going nowhere, nothing time-critical about it — is ideal for that.

No warning light exists for this, which is why vehicles in that position normally get driven again before somebody calls. Please don't be one of them. The throttle went soft and your idle turned uneven after a couple of streets, and your diesel Audi Q3 is now resting by Church of the Holy Spirit. Sluggishness there means fuel that cannot build pressure fully instead of an engine packing up. Turn off. Call us.

## Things we hear about petrol in diesel in Riddings

## At a petrol station around Riddings, can you do a fuel drain there?

A large part of this work gets done there, so yes.

Agreement from the site is the condition. Given that, a forecourt like Asda is somewhere we're frequently, along with the rest of them locally — so name yours on the phone and you'll hear if working there is possible.

## A few litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Litres aren't the measure. Proportion is, and much more than either, it counts if anything has been run.

What settles how much work is needed is whether that mix has been pulled through the system — since although five litres in a nearly empty tank is a separate case from five in a full one, either way that's the query.

## Already driven it with petrol in the diesel? Now what?

Stop safely. Off. Nothing after that.

Driving takes the trouble along — out of your tank, into the pump and injectors. Motorists fear it a good deal more than the recovery rate warrants, mind. The one genuinely useful thing left to you isn't restarting it.

## My warranty — does a fuel drain void it?

A manufacturer's warranty survives a drain then flush done to a proper standard, which is no change at all.

An argument over a warranty is likelier to come from running a diesel on petrol — so leave it switched off.

## Two-stroke oil in your tank, and then home?

Two-stroke oil solves a different fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

Your pump still has to live with it, as that tank still has petrol in it after that.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

You do not need one. The car is drained and cleaned wherever it is, with no need to take it to a dealership.

## Waiting next to it?

Turned off is the way it remains.

If you have already driven it, stop somewhere safe, switch it off then keep it off.

Cold, stationary, going nowhere: that's the best position to be in. People fear this far more than they need to.

At the kerbside, on the forecourt or at home — call-out fuel draining around Riddings and across Lincolnshire.
