# South Wraxall: Put Petrol in a Diesel Car?

Never fire up the engine. If the fuel is still in that tank and your engine has not yet run, a fuel drain is nearly always all it needs — and that's settled in the next few minutes, not by how much got in. Petrol in Diesel drains and cleans wrong-fuelled vehicles where they sit, all over South Wraxall and the remainder of Wiltshire, on the forecourt, by the roadside or on a drive.

One call to us will be enough: our engineers shall tell you what happens after this. Do that right away.

## Your first five steps: petrol in a diesel

- Feed a petrol engine diesel and it will generally not run at all, and so the motorist stops there and so does the wear. Give a diesel petrol and the car starts, it ticks over, it moves off — all right for a couple of miles. Motorists have that muddled, which is the part they get wrong about petrol in a diesel specifically. So don't fire it up. And having started, do not trust it: that fuel system is grinding while you drive.

- Two jobs, diesel: it combusts, and on the way through it keeps that high-pressure pump and injectors protected. Petrol only handles the one. That is why the car's ignition remains off also — turn it on and you frequently prime the system, and that is petrol exiting that tank for precisely those parts.

- Do not water down it. Diesel added on top clears nothing, and so all you get is more of what was already there, because percentage isn't how a diesel fuel system accepts petrol. Super unleaded? Still petrol. The type makes no difference.

- Stay where you are if you reasonably can. A vehicle that hasn't shifted is the easiest one to deal with, and our team would much rather get to a tricky spot than have it started. If you are parked on the verge on B3109, switch your hazards on and keep the vehicle there.

- Check where you are before ringing. A postcode beginning BA15 2, and the name of whatever is next to you. Otherwise the van circles rather than showing up.

- Call 0333 366 0103. Say what went in, approximately how much, and whether the motor has run. These three details determine the entire call-out.

The trip back would about double it, for no gain at all. One commute has already pushed a real load of petrol-thinned diesel through your high-pressure pump of your Volkswagen Golf. So keep the car where it stands. Call us from the platform if that is handier — nobody needs you hovering over the vehicle at Bradford-On-Avon while our engineers get on, and tonight beats finding out on Monday.

## Forecourt drains for petrol in a diesel

A fair share of the work is finished at a forecourt, since that is where it usually begins.

Still at Texaco? Then that's usually where it gets done. Station forecourts are routine for us, with the agreement of the site.

Before your motor has fired — a forecourt is the one setting the mistake is caught.

Fuel pulled out of that tank and through the filter, right to the high-pressure pump, is what occurs when the motor is switched on and the vehicle is driven to where it is now: the car park, the private drive or the lay-by, everywhere other than the forecourt. So the flush covers the fuel filter and your lines as well as that tank. That's still not a disaster, and our technicians sort it out where the vehicle is. What determines it is whether the ignition was reached for in the seconds after the receipt was checked.

The staff will generally offer to move the car out from the petrol pump so the next driver can get past. That is worth doing.

Shifting it four lengths doesn't warrant firing the motor.

## Areas we reach in South Wraxall

The same trips take us to Lower Wraxall, Little Chalfield, Bradford Leigh, Blue Vein and Farleigh Wick besides South Wraxall, which is a rural village.

We do come. Those places above are only the nearest neighbours, and a page exists for nearly all locations in Wiltshire, and so an absence from the list isn't an absence from the coverage.

Phone and enquire instead of presuming — borders particularly, and wherever your phone may struggle with.

This map is the patch the page spans.

Every bit of that is ground our technicians serve: a roadside, a forecourt, a drive, a car park. You never drive your vehicle anywhere.

## South Wraxall: broken down wherever you stopped

Not everyone finds a safe spot to pull over.

If you realised after setting off and landed along the verge beside Ivy Lane, or in a lay-by somewhere with your hazards flashing, that is a routine call for us and not an odd one.

Sit with the vehicle while it is safe to sit inside, yet clear of the vehicle if it is not.

It will usually oblige. A diesel running on petrol limps along quite willingly, and that's the catch: restart the car to get to somewhere safer and the blend goes further into the system with every mile covered.

We will bring our van to a difficult spot without any bother, and for the car that is far better than pressing on.

Three answers settle much of the work: what was put in, about how much, and whether the motor has run since. We ask for them when we reach your car in the car park at The Longs Arms. Then the contaminated blend comes out of the tank, the fuel lines are flushed, and where your Audi A4 has a serviceable filter, it comes off. When new diesel is in and the fuel system bled, our engineers fire it up and check it runs correctly before you pull away.

## So you've driven it? Petrol in a diesel over a couple of miles

The local M4 is the road which matters here, and lies under 10 miles from South Wraxall.

A misfuelled diesel will usually get you onto it and some way along before anything feels wrong, while the symptoms when they arrive are generally lost power, a rough idle and smoke instead of a tidy stop.

Take the first junction that's sensible, pull up there, and do not start the vehicle to move it.

On a longer trip — anything close to the under 10 miles to the closest city — assume the contamination has been through the fuel filter, your pump and the injectors, and mention it when you ring. It alters what our technicians bring.

None of it is the engine failing. That's the part worth hearing, and it is why the ordinary Hays Wood call ends better than it sounds: a diesel Ford Focus drives out there without a murmur, comes back with the power gone, the idle uneven and maybe a little smoke, and the cause is your fuel no longer behaving like diesel. Diesel has to be thick enough to seal the close-fitting parts it runs through; petrol thins it; and a diesel injection system is hydraulic as much as chemical, needing the fuel to hold pressure instead of only to burn. So pressure that should build then stay built bleeds past tolerances, delivery arrives poorer and later and less even than engineered, and all of that stops once your fuel is put right.

## About South Wraxall

South Wraxall is a small village in Wiltshire, situated inland near the city of Bath. South Wraxall sits at an elevation of 84 metres, surrounded by rolling countryside and nearby villages such as Lower Wraxall and Little Chalfield. South Wraxall has a population of around 501 people, predominantly living in detached houses. South Wraxall is located approximately 91.5 miles west of London, making it a rural retreat within reach of the capital.

## What we do when we get to you in South Wraxall

- Our technicians check what went in, how much, and if your motor has run. The answers alter the work, which is why we ask before pricing.

- That tank gets cleared of it.

- Lines cleaned, filter cleaned. Whatever remains later on is not the thing that started the problem.

- Priming follows, once new diesel is in.

- It is started with clean diesel in it, and our engineers check that it's running properly.

From there, you are ready to drive away.

Lasting damage is very rare when it has been noticed quickly, and since everything is done where your car is, it never has to go to a garage.

## A distinct matter: AdBlue in a diesel tank in South Wraxall

AdBlue instead of petrol? Then the first rule is unchanged — your engine remains off — while this fault underneath it is a distinct one altogether.

Weakened diesel, and no lubrication left for the fuel system that depends on it. That is petrol.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water, and in a diesel tank it causes corrosion and deposits in its place.

Both are ours. There's a separate South Wraxall page for AdBlue removal, with the full story on it — including the reasons it often turns out to be the worse of the two.

A throttle gone soft, white smoke, a lumpy idle, knocking: that is a misfuelled diesel Dacia Duster telling you what's wrong. Never restart the vehicle to find a better place — turn off where you have stopped, by South Wraxall Village Hall or anywhere else.

## What a petrol-in-diesel drain costs around South Wraxall

We can't put one price on this page truthfully, because this job is not one job. What moves it:

- Whether your motor has been started or driven. This is the main one.

- The tank's capacity, set against how much of the wrong fuel got into it.

- Which was put in: petrol or AdBlue.

- Where is it? And can a technician get to it and work there safely?

A firm answer rather than a range is what you get for telling us three things: your vehicle, the amount, and if it has run.

If it's not pressing — the car is at home and going nowhere — is fine too.

Your filter, your lines, your pump and the rail: that's where the mix is once a diesel has run, and it does not come back out with the tank contents. So your tank is not where most of the trouble rests by this point, and a diesel Skoda Superb that made it near St Peter's Church needs your system purged instead of emptied.

## Things our engineers hear about petrol in diesel around South Wraxall

## Fuel drains on a South Wraxall petrol station forecourt

Yes — forecourts are where a large portion of this takes place.

Regularly, provided the site agrees: Murco, plus every other forecourt nearby. Say on the phone where precisely you have stopped. Whether our technicians can work in that spot is something our engineers answer there and then.

## A couple of litres of petrol in a diesel — too much?

Ratio decides it instead of litres — and more than either, whether your motor has run.

Five litres into a nearly dry tank is not five into a full one, no. But both land on the same query in the end: has that blend been drawn right through, or has it not?

## Already driven it with petrol in your diesel? Now what?

Somewhere sensible, then stop, then turn off and leave it off.

Driving is what moves the issue from your tank into the pump and injectors — but it's recoverable much more regularly than people fear, and the single most helpful thing you can do now is not restart the vehicle.

## Is a fuel drain going to void my warranty?

It is not a modification, and so a drain then flush carried out correctly doesn't invalidate a manufacturer's warranty.

What is likelier to start a dispute is a diesel that has been run on petrol. One more reason for your engine to remain off.

## Adding two-stroke oil, then driving home

Two-stroke oil solves a separate fault, and an old one at that. Nothing it does puts back what petrol weakened. No.

Petrol remains in that tank later on, whatever else goes in, and the pump gets no reprieve from it.

## Does petrol in a diesel have to go to a main dealer?

There is no need to take it to a dealership, since we drain and clean the vehicle wherever it is.

## Still with the car?

Keep the engine switched off.

Driven it already? Then somewhere safe, stop, turn off, and no restarting the car afterwards.

A still, cold motor is the best place to be in, and this is recoverable from much more regularly than people expect.

Clearing misfilled motors, South Wraxall and the rest of Wiltshire, wherever they are. Roadside. Forecourt. Home.
